2015-2016 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only loss that really hurts is Giddens as he looked like he had potential to be a great energy guy for us down the road a la Ken Johnson. I hope Thompson reconsiders as we will need size in Gidden's absence.

Mitchell and Harris hardly did anything this past year. Harris would've had opportunities but only after Lyle left, so thats not a huge shock.

Not sure what's going on but it's apparent that our player development has fallen off a bit. Hopefully that changes this year. I am not sure if it's a product of Thad's deteriorating health or our assistant coaches not performing up to expectations.

Thad has a history of all his freshman transferring after one season?

His recent history certainly shows that the new players coming in won't be very great.

I think Gene needs to start searching and do his due diligence looking at candidates. If you can upgrade, pull the trigger.

No. Which is kind of the point that this may be an anomaly.

Thad has a pretty damn good history, moreso than most NCAA coaches. He played with the youngest team in the country, with what was CLEARLY some team dissension, and just won 21 games.

They've got their top six back next year, I'll reserve judgement instead of blindly siding with the freshman who are leaving.

This. People are quick to forget how dominant Thad's coaching career has been. Among active coaches, he has the 6th highest winning percentage putting him in the company of all-time greats like Self, Calipari, Williams, and Krzyzewski.

Giddens and Harris bother me a bit...Harris more so because he is a local guy and I thought he played the role of change of pace guard pretty well. Thought they missed Grandstaff's (supposed) shooting as well, but they have a chance to add a kid from NM who can play that role much better than Grandstaff would have next year, IMO.

The Giddens one hurts because it makes the team smaller and I saw a lot of potential, defensively, from him...thought he would have been a terrific pairing with Potter the incoming freshman.

And I'm with you on Mitchell, was never a fan of his game since all his HS success seemed to come from just him being bigger than everyone. He pulled a Dennis and peaked too early.

I'm hoping this is the beginning of a culture change in the program...been treading water for the past few years, somethings gotta change...maybe that's whats happening here and the transfers didn't like it.

It's not just about these freshman, though. The program overall has been stuck/slowly declining the last few years. Without D'Angelo we would have 0 NCAA tournament wins with only 1 appearance in the last 3 years. I mean I realize this isn't a basketball school, but this is the longest rut we've seen in the Thad era. It's like the equivalent of going 8-4 in football for 3 straight years. In the grand scheme of things it is decent but nobody is really happy with it. Can he get it back to where it was? I have my doubts.

Why couldn't Amir Williams have realized that in his time here and left after his 1st year...

Longest rut we've seen still includes three 20 win seasons, a player drafted in the Top 3 and heading into a year where your six top scorers and top 5 rebounders all return.

All in all, I suggest taking a deep knee bend.

OSU should be exploring better candidates, regardless of how much yoga you or I do.

Unless my aforementioned suggestion of Brad Stevens isn't happening, there aren't a lot of guys out there and available who would be better coach than Matta.

Agree, the best realistic move they could have made happened last year...but I'd give Thad 3 years tops left as the head coach...think his health is going to become too big of an issue.

I think Archie Miller would be a good hire, but I'm guessing he'll already be at a high major job by the time Matta retires. Chris Mack would be nice too.

I'd go after Gregg Marshall.

Also wouldn't mind seeing Donovan & Meyer at the same school again. I'd bet serious money that he returns to NCAAB before Stevens, if either ever do.

Gregg Marshall's team has gotten worse in each of the last three seasons.

Isn't this the same beef you have with Matta?
