CWC Tournament- Discussion thread

Oh, I thought he was talking about Mendoza losing weight. Kendrick was nowhere near the weight limit so that wouldn't have made much sense.
Maybe he was, you were talking about Kendrick's look so I assumed. Mendoza weighed in at 178, so he wasn't that close either.

Damn that Alexander/Ibushi match is a MOTY candidate. Fantastic. I also loved the end of the show when the crowd started chanting "please sign Cedric" and Triple H came out and gave them the thumbs up. Awesome moment.

Alexander just seems like a star in the making. I'd love to see him and Ibushi go to war over the Cruiserweight Title in the near future.

This and Gargano made the tournament for me. I'm 90% certain Johnny is about to sign a full time deal with WWE given that he is having his last AIW match pretty soon. Huge fan of the guy and would love to see big things for another Cleveland kid.

I could see them having Gargano win the new Cruiserweight title. He and Alexander both seem to have that star power aspect. I'd say Ibushi should be the first new champ, but I don't think he's willing to sign with the WWE full time. From what I've read, he's likely to sign a per appearance deal.

Pretty sure Ciampa and Gargano already signed like a month ago. Maybe more now

The CWC has been the best show WWE produces this year. Hope a lot of ppl got to see this thing man. The matches are clearly not choreographed by the main roster ppl because they are actually entertaining. And they somehow get you to care about the wrestlers with only like a 2 min vignette before every match.

What a fucking final show, holy shit...

Ibushi - TJP is tied with Nakamura - Zayn for my WWE MOTY. TJP won my over in a BIG way, even more so that he did in his last match and IBushi further cemented himself as the Best worker on the ENTIRE PLANET.

Everything on the card top to bottom was just spectacular, it is by far the Best 2 hours of tv WWE has put together in all my time since returning to wrestling in 2012. Incredible.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with Perkins on Raw. I think he'd make a great cocky heel. That was kind of the role he was playing early in the tournament, and it seems to fit him. Winning the tournament could inflate his ego, turning him into an insufferable prick on TV, which would be fun to watch.

This was my first thought as well. When they confirmed the match would be for the title, I was almost positive it would be TJP winning. I just can't imagine them wanting the inaugural champion being unable to speak English. I'm sure it will work down the line, but not for the first champ. They're going to want him talking himself up, and giving the title credibility from day 1.

Very excited to see how this division plays out. A lot of great things can come from it.

Yeah I figured Perkins would win from the final four. Ibushi won't agree to a full time contract with the WWE, Sabre hadn't been signed yet, and Metalik, while awesome, doesn't speak English. You're right that he can absolutely be a champ down the line, but you need to start out with someone who can speak the language and build himself and the belt up. A cocky heel who still wins on his own skill would be perfect for that.

No shortage of good feuds, though. All eight of the cruiserweights they're bringing in seem like they would work well together in the ring, and that's not even bringing up matches with more than two guys.

I think they could really do something with Gargano and Alexander down the road. Both of them seem like they could be actual WWE champs given the right booking and enough time.

I also wonder if the cruiserweight division will be totally insulated from the rest of the roster or if these guys will be able to work with other main roster guys and even compete for other titles.

A big question I have as well. Not only these guys branching out against guys outside the weight class, but other guys coming into the division to challenge. I know I've mentioned Xavier Woods before, but I think he'd do great in the Cruiserweight Division.

What I'd imagine they'll do is stipulate that anyone under 205 can compete for the Cruiserweight Title, but anyone is eligible for the other titles. That will allow them to have guys signed solely to be in the cruiserweight division still compete against regular roster members if they want to make some creative match-ups or give a cruiserweight guy a big win.

It will also allow guys who aren't specifically signed to be cruiserweights compete in the division and potentially for the title. Guys like Neville, Xavier Woods, Sami Zayn...hell, even Finn Balor could all compete in the division from time to time, or have a title reign when they're not in the world title picture. This would give the WWE a chance to really elevate the belt by having guys who are former champs of other titles carry the cruiserweight division for a time, and it would also give a huge rub to whoever beat them.

Finally, it lets the guys signed solely to the be cruiserweight guys work a different schedule where they appear on and tour with NXT, which is supposedly what the plan is.

Here's another question I have...

Clash of Champions is the 25th. Every advertisement says EVERY Raw title will be defended. I know it's making its debut on Monday the 19th, but are we going to get a title defense next Sunday?
