LeBron James Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought that the story would end with LeBron winning a title in CLE.

Then I realized, after seeing this kid, nope. The story is just beginning. :chuckle: There's a sequel to this motherfucker.

My god I just watched it and was about to come and comment on Damon Jones too.

The definition of a hanger-on. What a leech.

Maybe Damon and Lebron are good friends? I have single friends who have come to my kids game to support my kids and me. I dont think they are leeches.

I just hate assumptions like that. I dont know Damon Jones personally and I am 99.99999% sure you dont either, calling him a name for going to a friends sons basketball game is just ignorant in my opinion.

Lets be honest, motherfuckers.

We would kill to be in Damon Jones' place and we would follow LeBron whereverthefuck he goes. :chuckle:

I just will never forgive Damon Jones for killing Lebron's 3 point shooting.

A few days ago on LeBron's instagram story, he showed LBJ Jr. playing 2k16 in the background. Bronny was playing My Career and LeBron asked what team he was on and LBJ Jr. said Cavs.

Now, from what I know about 2k, I doubt this is a coincidence. He either tanked his pre-draft workouts so he could drop in the draft, or he forced his way to the Cavs by trade. Either way, he has learned what he has to do and it's looking like a good sign for us in the future :biggrinthumb::chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

Ive said it half jokingly a million times, but I really do think LBJ & Jr will be on this Cavs team at the same time.

LBJ has a shot at the points record, given his health record.

LBJ is gunning for Jordan. 6 Championships are far harder to predict than a guy consistently putting up 20+ a night.

One thing that would make LBJ truly great is playing the league at the same time as his kid, hopefully its on the same team.

How many more years would LBJ have go play in order to play 1 last season with LBJ Jr?

And how would they go about making sure the Cavs are the only team that he will go to in the draft? By pulling a Kobe?

I believe he is eligible in 2023. But to "make sure" Cavs are only team, I don't think it is technically possible unless they make a rule change by then. They could use many tactics to help him get to the Cavs, but I don't think it could be a guarantee. So many factors though have to be considered. The obvious, will he be good enough to make the NBA? If so, would he be good enough to be a top draft pick or where would his projection be? How good will the Cavs be and what kind of draft pick we will have, etc. Many questions and factors, but LeBron would probably find a way.

It does get me thinking though. Let's say Bronny is a mid-late 1st round talent. Or even 2nd round projection. Could his name alone be worth a bit in him getting drafted higher? Being LeBron's son has built in marketability if he is good enough to make it to the NBA which will probably sell many tickets no matter what, which other prospects can't guarantee. So if he happened to have late 1st round talent, I could see his name alone bumping him to the lottery. With any prospects his talent level is comparable with at all, he should get the nod. If he is 2nd round talent, I could see him still getting drafted mid-late 1st. If he is undrafted talent level, being LeBron's son at least guarantees someone will take you in the 2nd. If not for LeBron's connections alone and you know Cavs would make sure of it.

Doing it through the draft?

To sign LBJ Jr, the Cavs could either (1) trade a player for a top pick (hard to say who that might be); or, (2) the Cavs could tank the previous year with a series of fake injuries (AV style); (3) as an undrafted free agent...

Option #2 is, by far, the easiest way to get LBJ2 on the Cavs... It's feasible, even if transparent, and if we were one of the worst teams in the league (say Irving and Love are both out for half the season and James retires the same year), then we'd be guaranteed a top pick.

At that point, LBJ Jr could force his way to the Cavaliers, especially if the draft was deep (he might not even be the top prospect).

But what if the Cavaliers are the champions? What if we're the best team in the league, like say, the Spurs, with James still playing in a Tim Duncan capacity?

Then the Cavs could still get LBJ2 with the third option, but... it's a complicated song and dance that would require some sacrifice from the rookie.

Basically the way this works is that, in order for a player to bypass the draft and sign as a free agent, he needs to sit out two years of the draft as an eligible player.

If the Cavs/James want this to happen, they should attempt to get the eligible age lowered to 18... It's not necessary, but it makes this a lot easier to do.

Anyway, leaving the age limit aside for the moment, James Jr can threaten that he will ONLY sign for the Cavaliers - period.

He can actualize this threat by sitting out the season. So any team drafting him is essentially attempting to facilitate a trade with the Cavs; otherwise, if they believe he will truly sit out the season, then they've basically wasted their pick as their rights on him expire at the end of the season. Moreover, those rights cannot be traded after the deadline, so they have until then to work out a deal with the Cavs.

From many players, that's not a viable threat - but from the son of an owner and prospective billionaire, that's one hell of a threat... James Jr does not need the money; he does not come from hardship like so many players... you'd likely not gamble a first round pick in order to call his bluff or just to spite the Cavaliers - not at the expense of a lottery pick.

This means that if the Cavs could just get into the lottery, they should be able to get him. What team would risk a lottery pick just to watch him actually sitting out the year?

However, if a team does draft him, and he does sit out the year, then he has to do the process all over again... And again, it's unlikely he'd be drafted the second time around, but, if he were, he only needs to wait out the season before becoming an undrafted free agent.

At this point the Cavs could sign him after 2 years of not playing organized basketball... But in my opinion, they'd likely end up drafting him towards the end of the lottery in the first round in his first year of the draft.

If the eligibility rules were lowered, he could be a free agent as early as 20 years old. If they weren't, then as a 21 year old.

It's a complex and rather ridiculous process, but, those are the three ways the Cavs can sign LBJ Jr.

Seems like a big impossibility at the moment. To me, the most likely scenario is that he gets drafted by some team, then LeBron goes to that team for his last year in the NBA. And some Cavs fans won't like that, but LeBron has earned it. :bigcry:

Stop this thread. I can only get so hard after a 3-1 comeback championship...

Outside of playing with jr, would lbj the first guy in league history to play with or against guys who were born after he made his debut?
