Nerlens Noel on the block

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Getting rid of a viable wing (Shumpert) is the last thing we need to do. Adding viable wings is our biggest need.

Giving up a wing isn't ideal....but I view Noel as a much better talent than Shump at this point. I think Noel is very undervalued right now....kid is still 22 years old, is 6'11", and plays fantastic defense.

I swear you put him on a solid roster, and he just explodes.

We've got nothing worthy of trading for him.

But lol at klay. I'm not even sure id trade klay for embiid let alone Noel.

He's got no offensive game at all. He misses open layups all the time. It would be impossible to play he and TT together so Noel would be restricting our rotations a lot.

Giving up a wing without getting one back is a non-starter. I think Noel would do well here, sure, but we don't have much of a role for him, and we can't afford to go down another wing.

OK...let's bring Gerald Henderson back in the trade. Henderson doesn't make any sense there if they bring Shump in.

I'd take Noel and Henderson for Shump and a pick.

Honestly, from Philly's perspective though....Shump isn't even enough. I think Cavs fans are over-valuing Shumps open-market worth and undervaluing how good Noel can be. I think in the right situation, Noel can exceed TT's ceiling though....next to LeBron, Noel would be a monster.

Noel really doesn't serve much purpose here. If we can add Gerald Henderson for next to nothing, I'd rather do that, and keep Shump. I don't think people are over-valuing Shump, they just realize how poor our wing depth is at the moment. Shump is an integral part of our team, and it's not worth trading him for a back up situational big man.

I certainly get your point...I think we could easily get Noel 25-28 minutes per game though. He'd instantly be a better option off the bench than Frye, who isn't even useable against GSW.

I get the difficulties it presents when TT and Noel can't play together, but as a back-up to TT, and in spot minutes next to Frye, he'd be very valuable. His defensive flexibility is spectacular...his defense alone, could potentially allow Frye to actually be able to stay on floor against GSW....maybe. At least Noel could take Green, allowing Frye to play center-field against Iggy, which is still scary....

At a minimum, you have a back-up big in Noel that can step on the court against GSW and you might be improving your defense. There are few bigs in the league that you can substitute into a line-up for TT, and actually expect pick and roll defense to get better....and Noel is one of those guys.

If we put Frye on Iggy then GSW will just have Iggy set screens for Curry. As you had said previously in your post, Frye is close to unplayable against GSW. Having Noel out there isn't going to change that.

We have no reason to trade a wing for a big. Pick up a big (from D League or whatever) to eat up some regular season minutes and then roll with LeBron/Love/TT/Frye as the primary bigs in the playoffs, just like last year. Playing LeBron more minutes at the 4 vs GSW and hopefully being able to pick up another wing that is more serviceable than what we have behind Shump right now would be ideal. I'd much rather have PJ Tucker or Dudley against GSW than Noel.

I dont 100% agree, but we dont have what it takes to get him so that becomes the end of the discussion.

Noel would be a perfect young big to groom, but just no way in hell Philly takes the scrap we have to offer.

I do agree that another wing even after losing Birdman is our biggest need.

I wasnt happy with our pg depth just a few weeks ago, but Liggins/Shump have proven more capable of playing point while providing elite defense. To be clear, neither is a point, but they are almost adequate at it, and with the defense both provide, i am ok with adequate.

Come playoff, we wont need a backup pg and if Lebron or Irving is hurt, we are not winning a 2nd title.

How does Noel get 25+ minutes when he can't play next to TT?

Tristan only averages 29 mins per game....You get 19 right there. He can get 6+ next to Frye as well, since they'd be a good tandem at C and PF.

It'd actually be very easy to get him at least 25 if not more....

Your math doesn't add up at all. Tristan averages 29 minutes, so your 19 number is correct, but there are no additional minutes. Minutes playing alongside Frye are included in the 19 minutes.

That also assume we never play small ball with Love or Frye at the 5, and LeBron at the 4, some of our most effective lineups. It also completely disregards the Love/Frye pairing, which has also been very effective.

I honestly don't see a consistent rotation spot for Noel here.

Shumpert should not be dealt unless we are getting an upgrade at the wing position. Trading him for a big would be a huge mistake.

I mean yeah it'd be cool to have good players just waiting in the back. But getting young, good players and expecting them to just wait or give them less minutes than they desire (since they need minutes/stats to warrant paydays after their rookie deals) isn't realistic.

If Dedmon were in his mid thirties, I'm pretty sure we have him. But a 27 year old isn't gonna take token minutes and barely play while he can offer significant minutes to a team.
