Anthony Bennett

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And to think Grant could have taken Giannis Antetokoumpo instead. I firmly believe if another Cavs-cadet "Christian Eyenga" was never here, Chris Grant might have taken Giannis. This is complete pie in the sky, but I think we completely avoided something like that because of Eyenga.

We would have then had to give Minnesota Giannis and Wiggins for Love, which would be too tough to stomach.

But my god if LeBron and Giannis were on the wing together, they would be better than Mike and Scottie. I fully believe that.

No idea why people revisit these things as if they are something to regret at this point.

If we change the way we draft in the past it affects the outcome of the successive lotteries and it's a domino effect. We just won Game 7 of the Finals but a slim as hell margin in the most epic way imaginable. Drafting Bennett was among the things that had to go wrong for everything to go just right.

No way we take Giannis and still get Wiggins. Or, at least, slim as hell chance.

If we drafted different who knows if we'd have JR or Frye or Love or what have you. Just appreciate what we have and root for a better job drafting going forward now that the promise was kept.

Why do you hope you are wrong? The guy really never has seemed to try to get into shape and we wasted a first round pick on him. He made good money. He will make more good money in Europe. We could have drafted Antenokoupo or however you spell his name/

Greek Freak went late lottery, lets not pretend he was even a real option that day.

Also, we had trade Bennet to make salaries work no matter what for Love, and no matter who we drafted would have been moved for Love, so it doesnt really matter.

Revisionist history. Giannis was nowhere near number 1 overall evaluation at the time, no one had him top 5.

And that pick was traded for Love and would still be gone. Only 3 years after the trade does it seem obvious that he is a top 10 player.

I just hate the could of should of would of on a team that made trades to get us a championship last year. No point.

I hate crowd mentality about a player in a draft. If you like a player you draft high never mind what other so called experts might think.

Sad to hear.

I was kinda rooting for him and wishing he was able to rekindle his career but I guess this is it for him in the NBA.

I agree. As good as Giannis is, I don't think many expected him to be this good. Grant deserves criticism for taking Bennett and a lot of other shit but I don't think you can blame him for not going for Giannis. The player we should have gone for was Oladipo. Said it then as well. It doesn't matter if we already had Kyrie and Dion. When have a Top-5 pick, you always go for the talent and potential first. Not the fit. Especially considering we were a small market team and didn't have a LeBron to attract the best free agents to Cleveland.

Biggest #1 overall pick bust in NBA history? I know some players have gotten injured and never had a fair shake, but Bennett had all the chances in the world.

You mean like the Cavs did when they took Bennett? No one had him as the top pick in that draft except the Cavs. Be very careful what you wish for. I wanted them to trade down. That is what they should have done. Gilbert wouldn't have it.

I root for all the baby Cavs to do well (draft picks post-LeBron) so Bennett being out of the league is a slight bummer for me.

Also I would not change a thing. It makes the Love trade that much better.

The title was the only validation the Love trade needed.

I was one of the few Bennett fans/believers from day 1. I really liked what I saw at UNLV, and thought he'd be great for us at the 4 spot.

Big swing and a miss there.

I hate tweeners, and already had a slightly undersized Tristan at pf. (today I view this different, but back then it was all about shot blocking from bigs, now its about switching and defending multiple positions)

Now I was in the Otto Porter camp or Alex Len (porter was preference, we needed a sf badly). Thought both would develop into big time players. I was wrong on Len, but porter has really worked on his shot and made himself a very good player, not quite all star yet though.

Giannis wasnt on anyone's top 10, and 15th if i remember correctly was even a bit of a stretch to some.

All that said, it all water under the bridge, we traded 2 young top pics for a stud PF when Lebron returned.

I will say I am a bit shocked even being a Porter fan his shooting has improved as quickly as it has, good for him at being a pro and working on his game.
