Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is it confirmed as of now? As hours ago I saw it was not fixed yet.

Cavs have two ways to structure the deal:
1. Dun for KK, and Mo+1st for TPE; this way leaves us a 2.2 mln TPE good for 9 Jan 2018;
2. (part of)TPE for KK, and Dun for TPE, and Mo+1st for TPE; this way leaves us a 4.8 mln and a 2.2 mln TPE good for 9 Jan 2018, but will break our Varejao TPE to 4.4 mln, good for Feb 2017.

I would rather Griff keep the whole Varejao TPE, considering the lack of suitable PG options fitting for 4.4 mln contract. But again, is it confirmed that the TPE is already broken.

It currently looks that way in the trade machine, but that's all I have.

The reason the Cavs would do that is that Varejao's TPE expires at the trade deadline this year (they only last one year) -- so if they aren't planning on making a deal that requires the full TPE in the next month, they should break it up to save the part they can.

At the moment the remainder of the Varejao TPE will still expire at the end of the month, but the new Dunleavy TPE will last until january 2018.

True... thats why I hope Griff would not break the TPE. with only 4.4mln left this year we are much more limited in options of a PG.

Spending the full TPE would cost us $47.5M after taxes are taken into account - there was never any chance we do that anyway.

EDIT: I'll take that back slightly -- If we were planning to trade Iman Shumpert for a player who made just about $9M/year (just slightly less than the TPE) -- then it would have made sense to save the TPE for that deal, so we could get the full thing extended another year.

I can't think of any possible targets that applies to -- we shouldn't do it that way if we were targeting a player making more than 9.5M, or a player making less than 4.5M

Collison is someone I would like to nab... with 5.3 mln contract. let's see whats going on... i just believe in whatever Griff does is good.

I know word came from Atlanta that they were no longer shopping Millsap, but I don't buy that for two seconds. It makes utterly no sense to trade Korver but keep Millsap. Even if they want to keep Millsap to re-sign him, why wouldn't you keep Korver too for one last season? His contract runs out this year, so why kneecap your team if you aren't planning on rebuilding?

To me it seems like they're telling the league to stop offering the likes of Terrance Ross for him. Millsap aint over the hill yet.

Woj has confirmed that the Varejao TPE is separated, and down to 4.4 mln now.

Okay, well... in Griff I believe...

You can find a decent big with that money and I hope they do.

Although Woj reported that Cavs separated the 9.6mln TPE in Korver trade, I feel very confused...

Reason: In such a case the trade has to be structured this way: I. (partial) TPE <--> Korver; II. Dunleavy <--> TPE; III. Mo + 1st <--> TPE. Problems here (per trading rules) are: 1. you cannot trade a player for nothing, which is the case for II and III; 2. Hawks don't seem to have a TPE to take Mo's contract, neither are they under the cap to be able to swallow this contract.

I think the only way this trade can be approved by league office is Dunleavy + Mo + 1st <--> Korver, under which the 9.6mln is fully retained. But I cannot convince myself that Woj is wrong here...

Does anyone have some comments?

It likely looked like this:

Trade 1: Cavs trade $1.15M for Korver, and absorb Korver under their TPE. Atlanta Produces a TPE for Korver's contract.
Midstep1: Atlanta Cuts whoever they cut to get a roster spot (this also puts them under the cap).
Trade 2: Cavs trade Mo Williams and a 1st round pick to Atlanta for $75K. Atlanta has cap space at the moment because they don't have Korver or the min contract.
Trade 3: Cavs trade Dunleavy to Atlanta for $75K. Atlanta absorbs Korver TPE that was just created, allowing them to go back over the cap.

The cash being sent back and forth is made up (i'm not sure what the minimum amount of money is that can be sent in a deal). The first round pick can be in any of the trades, it doesn't matter.

The only problem I see with that is that I think after midstep 1, by my calculation, Atlanta is still about a million over the cap -- but maybe i'm misreading something about a deal

Play... maker... Hmmmm? If we are not counting scoring, Rondo and Rubio come to mind at the PG spot. Yeah Rondo is still a headcase but still a play maker. Boris Diaw as some said, yes and a great pick up if he has it in the tank. Rudy Gay and move Bron back to PG is an option.

After trade moves are more important to keep and eye on. We shall for sure get one or the other in Buyouts (Bogut please), However we will have to trade for one and Shump and Birdmans contract are the only assets we have, We have TPEs but... Hmmm. Our Front Office really set us up for any option. I think Forbes has to be behind the business side because he made assets out of air with numbers.

Finally who knows who cares if Griff says it so be it and nothing he has said or done is awful. Moz is a minor exception but he did prove a nice piece while here and whatever went wrong with him I am thinking age maybe? He did his job and did it well his first stint with us.
All I know is the Cavs keep adding players who I never thought would be a Cav and let that continue.

How the fuck would this even...work?

Because I can't see the Cavs giving up someone like Love to nab him.
We could always send JR & Shump back to New York... :chuckle:

Another way would be to trade just one of them with Frye & scrubs.

Many will laugh at these proposals, of course, but the Clippers really couldn't offer anything better without including Griffin or Jordan which they probably wouldn't do.

I can't see us giving up Love, or even Tristan, in a deal for Melo at this point. Love is playing too well and Tristan is too essential for this team, especially against the Warriors.

In short: Not happening until maybe next season since Melo isn't a Free Agent until 2018
