2017 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
D Wreck must have realized he was wrong. Maybe he typed it into Google and saw this:

count on someone or something
to rely on someone or something; to depend on someone or something. We can count on Bill to get the job done. Can I count on this car to start every morning of the year?

No, I'm not the one misinterpreting the phrase. Just didn't see the point in arguing. I know what the phrase means, and I know what was meant by the statement that the Indians were counting on Brantley for opening day.

Youre not misinterpreting the phrase yet I just posted something backing up my interpretation and you choose to ignore it. K. As for what the Indians meant by it, I'm not them so I can't speak to it but apparently you can. Appreciate the clarification.

I don't disagree with the definition you posted. I just disagree with your interpretation of it.

I've just never heard of somebody counting on something that they weren't expecting to happen.

EDIT: I promise I'm done arguing semantics now.

I mean, the definition says rely... depend... it's not really open to interpretation as far as I'm concerned.... it fits exactly what I said.

Not that I don't get what you're saying- the Indians probably do 'expect' him back. I just took issue with you trying to make me look dumb (not literally, you get my drift here) acting like i've spent decades misinterpreting a phrase. :chuckle:

That's all.

Whatever. Fine. None of us really know anyways so I'm not going to bother. Brantley will be back and playing at All Star level by May. Whatever you say. I hope you're right dude.

Brantley will play this season since he will be able to recover from it, but none of us know who Brantley will be this season. Bimbo and I both believe he will be productive, but we never said he will be an all-star this season. He has the people around him, and the right attitude to succeed with the issue at hand. Also since it's not his actually throwing shoulder he should be able to recover to the point he can play again. He will play in the spring and he will be on the team by May at the latest. Now my money is on the 12/13 stats for this upcoming season for Brantley and I would put pretty good money on that type of production.

As long as he is relatively productive I'd call it a win.

They have taken the measures to back up the spot if he is not. They have a ton of OF help so they are kind of thinking either or but like Bimbo said until something comes up otherwise no reason to think he will not be ready. That said all you can ask and you can slide him far back in the line-up if need be because we are stacked. His window here is open and I want him back even at first at half production.

I feel this is why we got Austin Jackson as Brantley will need many days off and we got two outfielders who will battle for that time. The Indians knew this and created a back up plan that is best for the team and Brantley. I love what the Indians did this Off season aside from EE, They took care of business. Either way yeah what they did is a win.

They signed Austin Jackson because Naquin can't hit LHP, and Almonte is still an enigma heading into this season...not because of Brantley.

He COULD be insurance for Brantley, but I don't think that's why they signed him. They signed him because he's a right handed hitter who can track balls well in CF.

I will say though...Tito flat out saying Ramirez won't be working out in the OF this Spring has my ears perked up a bit...in a good way...

Thank god because I saw the plan and Ramirez should be he held where he is.This is why I love this team right now as they have options and I know Terry loves them. I am not worried about the team and many do not understand baseball is a grind. I mean our team gave us all and more alone. With Logan and EE this will be a season to remember win or lose. However I feel this is going to be a fun year.

Friend of mine said Tito mentioned yesterday they were considering the idea of Brantley in RF. Can't find confirmation anywhere.

I'm not worried about OF right now. You have Brantley, Naquin, Jackson, Almonte, Chisenhall, Guyer, Colabello, and Diaz as potential options to start the year. Worst case you could even add a guy like Coco Crisp if a rash of injuries hit. There's no need to rush Brantley.

The emergence of Willy Mo will move Brantley to RF

Hopefully Wily Mo has lost a lot of weight if he wants to be in the OF.

But honestly I am not as worried if Brantley isn't able to go since we got as far as we did last season without him. If Zimmer/Diaz can prove they belong in the MLB, then they will be up to replace Brantley if he is done. Diaz is an MLB ready bat, Zimmer is a 5 tool potential guy. We also have the ability to make trades if need be like we did last season for Crisp.

Honestly, the RF platoon of Chis/Guyer is the only part of that list I feel comfortable with as a plus on this team.

Chiz/Guyer platoon is one of the best platoons in baseball IMO.

But I think Naquin will be fine. Won't hit .296 again, or have an OPS pushing .900, but I think his defense improves quite a bit in CF this year, which will erase some of that offensive regression.

Biggest ? is his platoon partner in CF...only thing I don't feel all that comfortable about right now.
