Welcome Deron Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hope we see more of him and that other D-Will. He's a real gem of all the bench players. A role that wasn't supposed to be for him just yet but he embraced it.

Deron is finally starting to bring a lot of good things to this team. Point guards tend to take more time to acclimate and work out the kinks. His jumper looks really good though...he likes that right corner three..He's also been physical defensively.

Loved his confidence in this game. He really wanted the ball and wanted the shot.

He's not what he used to be, but he still is a heck of a player. Good point you made about it taking longer for PG's to find their way on a new team.

He's still being misused...tonight he just happened to play well while being misused.

I'd watch him post up in the corner while LeBron trotted the ball down the court and grimace. If he had missed those 3s he'd be getting tomatoes pelted at him in this thread.

Lue needs this guy to be the main ball handler of the second unit. Even with Bron or with Kyrie. It will not only help Deron building his rhythm, it will also provide rest to our two main ball handlers and play them more off the ball. With LeBron, they should do more pick and rolls and post ups while with Kyrie they need to set up some pin downs or floppys.

There was a moment late in the first quarter that Lue subbed Love back in with Deron and took LeBron off the floor. Led to several good looks.

Ehh, I don't really think so. Part of playing with Bron is learning to play off the ball. If you're a point guard and playing with LeBron, you are going to have to make a corner three sometimes to be useful. It's the main reason I didn't want Ricky Rubio here. It is just the reality of LeBron James.

But Williams had a couple of minutes on the ball where he looked good and a couple minutes off the ball where he also looked good. He's a talented guy who is capable of doing both. I think that balance was struck very well tonight. Maybe a pinch more pick&roll with him on the ball and LeBron rolling hard to the rim....but LeBron doesn't like playing like a power forward until it gets to the point where he knows it's 100% necessary to win like the finals last year.

While this is true, Deron having the ball and LeBron setting screens and cutting has led to the highest percentage shots available: LeBron getting layups and dunks.

Lue for some reason is overplaying all the starters in the 4th. There's no reason Deron can't play from the 3 minute mark in the 3rd to the 9 minute mark in the 4th. And give him some time with Love, especially against the eastern conference teams. LeBron and Kyrie should be able to get more rest than they have been against the Pacers.

Of course you don't.

Just basing the idea off of every single point guard LeBron has ever successfully played with. You know, little things like that.

Like I said, there is a time and a place for Deron both on the ball AND off the ball.

If Deron can't hit shots, then he's going to be a lot less effective on the ball as well because no team is going to give LeBron a free run to the rim if there's no threat of Deron being able to hit a jumpshot.

And if he can hit the shot, which he can, there's no reason we shouldn't diversify the way we use him to get him the spot up corner threes he obviously likes.

Both of our original statements can and most likely have truth to them.

The Cavs do need to get Deron in on-the-ball pick and roll action, especially with LeBron, more often. It can create very effective offensive possessions.

But the Cavs also should continue to have Deron being a threat off of the ball for multiple reasons as well. It makes us more versatile, and it fits with what LeBron is most comfortable with, so it will produce a lot of good shots just for those reasons alone.

Deron can be used better. Everything can always get better. No doubt about it. But the last two games in particular have had some very good things going on within the game that absolutely do not qualify as "mis-use".

So, where's the love for the role this guy played tonight?
I havent had anything good to say about him this season but he was awesome tonight and seemed to be playing with more energy
