Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This guy's ceiling is Dennis Rodman. If he learns to antagonize more like he did last night, he'll get there faster. Sometimes he's too nice and too business like. A little rage is good.

Too Canadien for that, unfortunately.

Reggie Miller said it would be wise to put Smart on TT the rest of the series in the 4th quarter last night.

Please Brad Stevens, listen to Reggie Miller.

Thank GAWD they didn't draft Jonas...Tristian is simply a player who makes winning plays and knows his role and enjoys his role...

I will make a case for Jonas here.

I think Jonas is a good player. His value is very low right now because Casey is an idiot and they hardly run plays for him in the post but when they do he is very good, and also quite effective. But they continue with DeRozan-ISOs and Lowry-ISOs. JV absolutely annihilated Whiteside last playoffs, who is usually considered one of the best defensive Centers in the league. Even against us, he was possibly amongst their better players. At least on the offense.

In 2011, Jonas over TT was a no-brainer for me, because we didn't really have much scorers or players with good potential on the offensive end. We had just drafted Kyrie. So, Jonas would have been the perfect secondary option to have had alongside Kyrie.

But, for our current team, there's absolutely no question or doubt, that TT is by far the best option because he is the perfect fit. He doesn't have to worry about the offense because we enough offensive fire-power. We need him for the defense, hustle and rebounding, which he is quality at!

Thompson is the most underappreciated Cav by this board in my opinion. People whine about him not having a jump shot, or him not blocking shots, or him not being a great passer. I wish more people would focus on what he actually does instead of what he doesn't do. He's maybe the best offensive rebounder in the game to the point that opponents have to gameplan for him or risk him demolishing them on the glass. He is one of only about 5 bigs that can switch out onto guards and wings and do a respectable job one on one. And even when he is tasked with guarding bigger players he holds his own. He is one of the most durable players in the league, which is especially valuable on a team with multiple injury-prone players. He never complains about his role or minutes - and never demands that plays be drawn up for him like Dwight Howard does. And he's got great hands and is a good finisher around the hoop who can catch lobs, make layups/dunks, and even hit surprising floaters and hooks as the shot clock dwindles down.

Thompson is worth every penny of his contract. In a world where Mozgov and Mahinmi are getting 14 to 16 million dollars per year each, he's fucking underpaid.

He has gotten better again, and his quickness is much improved since his time off. Hr is a much better rim protector when other guus are pulling their weight defensively

The other thing about TT, because he's isn't giant and prodding, he is able to run around screens all game. While he isn't as good of a rim protector as 2014-15 Moz, not even close, I'd posit he is a much better defensive center in today's NBA. The Roy Hibbert's of the world are dying. Tristan is an ultimate form of the new breed.

Very true. I think TT is the Ideal defensive 5 in todays NBA. He is quick yet strong. A great Rebounder. Traditional Rim Protection has become more and more obsolete. To win against a good Opponent you need to stop or at least slow the three point Bombardment. To stop the occasional Layup is nice but if you consder that 3 > 2 it is clear why TT's abilities in the P&R and on switches is propably alot more valuable than if we had a guy like prime Hibbert(I would not mind such a guy from the Bench but TT would still start and play most Minutes..)

With Love seeminly have been taught about those stuff by TT by how Love looks so far in the Playoffs on defense we could have a complete Front Court that can Switch easilly yet still defend the Post AND be the best Rebounding Front Court in the NBA. No other Team has that

Thompson measured 6'8 and 3/4 in shoes at the NBA draft combine. Nobody saw him as a center, more of a traditional four without the shooting to space the floor, like Dale Davis. At the time, the Cavaliers started Ryan Hollins at center after Varejao got hurt. There were questions about how a short center with shooting issues fit. But, the NBA has changed with Thompson. One thing that hasn't changed is that durability is a vastly underrated quality.

@RchfldCavRaised may have killed a fool for saying such a thing
<old format Chart. >

not sure what your looking for. These are imagined statistics. not real production. Also Tristans stats are against starters, the rest outside of jv are against back ups.

all your doing is complaining about a snapshot showing actual production. Thompson certainly isnt being outclassed by anyone drafted around him

Edited to remove chart that no longer works

I lived. That post as also liked by three people so I wasn't alone on an island

I know your joking and having fun but Jking apparently wanted me to wreck this narrative.

I do remember Tristan being compared to Michael Cage and/or Tyrone Hill based on his height and skill-set. It isn't wrong, but when those guys played for the Cavs, they didn't have 3 (healthy) all-stars to fully compliment them.

But on the other hand, the motor T.T. possesses is worth at least half of his contract these days (especially in the playoffs). The rebounding/positioning/defense help fortifies whatever he lacks.

He may not be a great shooter from 15 feet out, but he understands his limits, similar to Ben Wallace, so he doesn't take them. He also realizes he doesn't have the b-ball IQ to make bullet passes to teammates in clogged lanes. And he's always ready for anything related to the game plan.

If he could develop a jumper, it would become as effective as him dribbling into the lane and getting an easy dunk, throwing a monkey wrench into the opponent's game plan. But that would be the same as saying if he could grow 2-4 more inches, he would be as effective as a defensive center as Tyson Chandler or DeAndre Jordan...

He's good enough for me (and he's my favorite Cavs player going on 5 years now). But he's still limited (he tried defending J.R. while he still played in New York, with catastrophic results), which isn't a bad thing since we have the personnel to compensate.

I really hate to do this as I think Tristan is a glue guy, but in no way will Tristan be Rodman. Rodman is the greatest rebounder of all time, both eye test and statistics. His rebound percentage is almost 25%, ie 1 out of 4 rebounds when he is on the court would go to him. That is an insanely high number.
