2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
goodwill to bank for the 2nd contract.(?).

I think they just want him signed early.

7.6 mill a year isnt a huge contract, and outside of career ending injury which insurance pays for anyways, no reason we dont give him 4 years to mature.

So pissing him off by not making it guranteed seems pointless.

I think you're missing what the likely defensive set will be. Though I'm assuming you're just looking at the Ourlads depth chart.

Four down lineman, two LB and five DB.

EDGE - Myles Garrett -- Joe Schobert -- Nate Orchard
DT - Danny Shelton -- Jaime Meder -- Gabe Wright
DT - Larry Ogunjobi -- Caleb Brantley -- Desmond Bryant
DE - Emmanuel Ogbah -- Carl Nassib

LB - Jaime Collins -- Dominique Alexander
LB - Chris Kirksey -- Demario Davis -- Tank Carder

CB - Joe Haden
CB - Jason McCourty
NB - Jamar Taylor -- Brien Boddy-Calhoun

Hybrid - Jabril Peppers
FS - Ed Reynolds -- Kai Nacua -- Tyvis Powell

Not bad and probably not too far off. I have a hard time envisioning them keeping 11 DL though.

Defensive Line (9)
DE: Garrett - Holmes
3T: Ogunjobi - Brantley - Cooper
NT: Shelton - Meder
DE: Ogbah - Nassib

Cuts: Orchard, Bryant, Coley, Lawrence-Stample, Marcus, Schult

-Garrett, Shelton, Ogbah, Ogunjobi and Nassib are locks. I am giving Holmes the edge over Orchard and Cooper the edges over D. Bryant, but those could go either way.

Linebacker (5)
WILL: Collins - Schobert
MIKE: Kirksey - D. Davis - Carder

Cuts: Alexander, Bello, Burgess, Fleming, Johnson, Olugbode

-Collins and Kirksey are both going to lead the team in snaps. Hopefully they stay healthy because there's not much behind them. I went with Davis because of experience in the middle. Carder is terrible when he has to actually play, but he's been the special teams captain for a while now, so he gets the nod here. Wouldn't be surprised at all if 1-2 of the young LBs plays Davis and/or Carder off the roster.

Defensive Back (10)
CB: Haden - Taylor - McCourty
Nickel: Boddy-Calhoun - Caldwell
SS: Peppers - Kindred
FS: Reynolds - Powell - Nacua

PUP: Wilson
Cuts: Burley, Campbell, Currie, Harmon, Hill, Hillary, Murray, Stribling.

-This group is wide open. Haden, Taylor, McCourty, Boddy-Calhoun and Peppers seem like the only locks. The rest of the defensive backfield could be anyone really.

Pretty much my thoughts. The optimistic take on the 2ndary is that with added DL pressure, the passing defense will be much improved all around. As for the WR, we just have to see how the QB's and young WRs develop. I lean toward the optimistic side with Coleman blowing the top off of the D, Britt being the inside slant threat, and Njoku being a true menace, especially once he gets stronger and learns how to block. That would be good enough.

Fact is though Coleman is not a #1 and likely never will be. He's not Antonio Brown.

We need to find a stud at the position.

Would you consider RB or WR to be a bigger point of need? Personally I think Crow is absolute trash but I like Duke as a spell back. We need a guy to take pressure off of the QB big time.

Seems like a big stretch to say after only his rookie year where he was injured. Hell AB had only 16 catches his rookie year, not saying he will ever be Antonio Brown but it is excessive to judge him after only his rookie year.

Far from a "fact."

Only Sith deal in absolutes.

So you'd say he's a #1 RIGHT NOW? Lol

I clarified and said "likely never will be", if you want to present an argument that he's a #1 right now by all means go right on ahead.

I'm listening.

I obviously didn't say that. I was focused on what I already bolded and quoted, "likely never will be."

By all means clarify and elaborate on what you meant. Even if we're focused on the now...you still frankly don't know who our #1 WR will be this season either.

I'm hoping for the best. Just think it's pretty half-assed to say Coleman will never be a #1 WR.

You very specifically said "far from FACT" which I stated was that he isn't a 1 right now as fact. Care to dispute?

As far as "not being likely" to ever be a #1, I stand by the statement. In fact I'd say just about any receiver you draft is "not likely" to become a #1 receiver. It's pretty damn rare. Especially a guy you draft in the middle of round 1 in an extremely weak WR class. There's maybe 15-20 total true #1's in the league? Care to dispute?

Yeah obviously I am disputing it. You saying he will never be a #1 WR ever based off your opinion is honestly lazy and asinine. The kid played one season, half of which he was injured.

Also, when I said it was far from fact, was focusing on you throwing the "never will be." But sure, say you only meant it as if he isn't a #1 WR now.

Now are we going into what is a #1 WR? Obviously there's 32 in the NFL, unless you're going into other definitions?

Ending every paragraph with "Care to dispute" sounds like you're putting yourself on a throne buddy. You're just another fan with a hot take.

Key word "likely" never will be. Question: does "not likely" mean never? If so I'm going to need to go back and take a few more English classes.

You know the obvious point I'm making about being a #1 WR. Don't try and act koi about it. Not every team has a true #1 WR. Would you consider Doug Baldwin, Stefon Diggs, Golden Tate #1 wide outs? Because if so your definition takes no account of how good a player actually is and only accounts for how good a the players behind a player is. Sure, you can consider Coleman a #1 under that god awful definition because he's better than Payton and Higgins..

How good is it you think Coleman is going to be? How "likely" on a scale of 1-10 is it that you think Coleman will reach Amari Cooper like level of play? Because if the answer is anything below 5, you're essentially agreeing with me.

...Care to dispute?

How likely is it that Coleman can post 70-1000-5?

Probably like an 8-9, honestly.

Of course, you could have picked a better WR than Amari Cooper.

But by all means, keep going with this inane discussion of what constitutes a #1 and dismissing Coleman's chances of getting there after 10 games played.

Coleman can absolutely turn into a 70-1000 guy. Why is he being dismissed after his rookie year where he was hurt with trash throwing to him? Don't WRs take more than half a season to develop in the NFL?

Cooper was an 83-1200 guy last year but oooooookay, and yeah. We'll go with that one.
