2017 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would the Reds or any rebuilding team in this hypothetical be interested in Santana being included in the deal?

A hypothetical trade like this is so unlikely that you might as well chalk it up as impossible.

Let's move on.

When Santana signs elsewhere this winter, you're likely getting a first round compensatory pick. That has value to a rebuilding franchise.

Edit: see b00bie's post below. I'm wrong on this.

We have to give him a qualifying offer in order to get that pick and I can’t see him making more than the $16 million the qualifying offer is worth

Santana wouldn't even be eligible for a qualifying offer from any team he'd be traded too, so they wouldn't be able to get any compensation. Unless they changed that rule in the new CBA too

Saw Yankees are interested in Frazier and Robertson as a combo.

Indians competition will be getting better for sure. Especially if Houston decides to go all in for Gray.

Adding Robertson to Betances and Chapman, despite their struggles, makes that bullpen super scary.

Think Frazier will end up in Boston, fits such a glaring need.

Don't think it was mentioned anywhere in this section, but Salazar went 6 scoreless yesterday for Columbus. 9 Ks, 3 H, 3 BB

Certainly encouraging as he went 5 scoreless last week for Mahoning Valley.

I think b00bie's answer of "no" summed up the the likelihood of Santana being moved. No team is going to give us an upgrade at 1B in exchange for 70 games of Santana.

*Braces for the Santana hate crew to say anyone at 1B is an upgrade to Santana*
I mean to be fair nearly anything is an upgrade to Santana. We can't have such an egregiously bad hitter tying up one of the easiest defensive spots to play. Also it's not like he's good defensively either

How you feel about getting swept by a 39-50 team :chuckle:

Don't know if I read your input on it, one of those "we'll be fine in October"?
I'm a firm believer of baseball isn't usually won by the best team. All you really need to do is make the playoffs to have a chance. Now some teams have better chances than others but really baseball is so volatile that I'm happy as long as we get a spot

Now the good news is our division is rotten asshole so we are likely to make the playoffs

But there are serious problems with this team. And I wouldn't call this a top 8 team in the MLB

Luckily for us though you can absolutely be a non top 10 even MLB team and win it all. We have an elite bullpen, an elite starter, and an elite stinky P. Just get us in and hope for the best

It's how I felt last year, but the best team won.

LA is 29-4 and haven't been on a stretch like that in 100 years, even if we make it again, Dodgers will be last years Cubs in my mind.

Dodgers are 29-4 during a stretch in June and July?

Fuck it, cancel October.
