College Football: Who has the Worst Fans Conversation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I swear every group of college fans is supposedly THE WORST group of college fans somebody's experienced.

I've now heard this about Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, UCF, USF and University of Miami fans from different sources. Surely out of all these teams, only one can be the worst group of fans?

I have news for you...you're experiencing drunken fans rooting for a bunch of large men on a football field to score more points than another team. It's highly unlikely that any one large group of people are any worse than another at doing this. It's your personal experience with these people.

As for Peppers...what the fuck ever. He'll get it over it. As will whomever these stupid fans were that gave him a hard time. It's not a big deal if they gave him a hard time for playing for a different team from a different state.

Good God guys.

PS Florida fans are the worst.

My Dad is a Florida alum and would love to agree with you about being the worst.

In the big ten it is OSU fans, followed closely by UM fans.

Wisconsin fans travel the best, very friendly and respectful.

I am not speaking nationally, just Big Ten as i got to experience this first hand over the 7 years I bartender on Campus.

And this isnt just my opinion, it was talked about. We used to hate OSU and Michigan home football weekends.

Yes, some fans travel betters than others, OSU and Michigan are arrogant self entitled disrespectful fans as a bunch.

Hating anyone before you see who they are and see their potential contributions is a prejudice. Peppers shouldn't have to face a prejudice because he is about to sustain four or five brain altering concussions for Cleveland in the next few years. It's just poor form to treat a rookie like this.

Maybe I'm just confused, but how are the fans "hating" him? He hasn't been boo'ed. Maybe OSU fans hit him with a playful "Hey Jabrill, Go Buckeyes" or something along those lines. That isn't hate, nor is it prejudice. How is it different if a fan does it, as opposed to a teamate? Because you know any UM alum is going to get shit from an OSU teamate and vice versa.

It's all in good fun. In no way should it impact him at all outside of a chuckle and then who gives a shit.

If only life worked that way.

He isnt complaining, but lots of pressure is on him as a 1st round pick, he still has emotions. Yes lots of us would love to be in his position, doesnt mean the fans going after him because he played at Michigan are any less of assholes.

Just because he is making millions does not mean OSU fans are not assholes. One has nothing to do with the other. And yes it is making his life more difficult for no reason.

You just said "Ohio State fans are the worst in the nation" so you have a clear agenda/bias that I don't even want to bother arguing against.

He's making millions. Playing a sport that he loves. Like @Snowblind said, he's going to have to deal with away fans saying actually ignorant shit to him. If he can't deal with a little playfulness from our fanbase for attending our state college rivals then he doesn't have the mental make up to be playing in this league anyways.

My post from before
If "osu fan boys" are bothering him, then I can't imagine him playing away games in the NFL. The same guys giving him shit now, will be the one's cheering for him when he's blowing up a run play, sacking the qb or looking like Cribbs in the return game.

I'm excited for him and our defense this year and I'm an Ohio State alumni. Unless he sucks.. Then bring out the fan boys!!! :chuckle:

He was asked and gave an honest answer.

And away and home are 2 different things. He hasnt even played a game for the Browns and some fans are treating him like shit. It is just stupid. But yes I am sure the millions makes it easier to take, but it will also make it easier to leave in free agency if the fans dont come around if he happens to be good.

Worst in Big Ten, not nation.

And to be honest, i have no idea about Nebraska or Rutgers, i was before that. Michigan is pretty bad. Penn State was probably third worst.

I'm not mad at his response or think it's going to effect his play. I'm glad he gave an honest answer. I don't know what fans are saying to him to comment on the situation.

I think your bias against osu fans is making you think they're saying awful things about his family or something. Unless you were at the training camps and can tell me the hurtful things they said, then I don't know how we can sit here talking about this. It's all pretty dumb and based on assumptions.

This post nailed it. @Lee I think you're generalizing like crazy right now. Ohio State fans travel like no other in the Big Ten (not unusual to create home games in other stadiums) so I'm guessing that may have something to do with your experience. Nonetheless, OSU certainly has arrogant fans, as does every big time college program. I don't really see much ignorance, in my experience OSU fans are pretty knowledgeable about the game. Same with most fans in the Big 10; I wouldn't call any of them ignorant. And disrespectful? Nah.

This is pretty ridiculous. We don't even know what treatment Peppers has or hasn't been getting. This entire conversation is a generalization.

I wouldnt say I am biased against OSU fans, I rooted for OSU growing up, my Mom went there, Grandma, Brother and Sister in law are huge OSU fans.

I am biased against stupid fans and OSU have allot of them unfortunately.

And i hope they are not saying things against his family, i am just saying booing him or saying something negative to him because he went to Michigan is stupid and embarrassing and I know that is happening because several reporters brought it up.

I think many on here arguing against me will never understand. I am not anti OSU, still my 2nd favorite team, but OSU fans can be over the top and annoying. Big sense of self importance.

It is not in the nation, i literally said in the big ten, and i am referring to when we were 12 teams.

You are correct that allot of it has to do with the amount that travel, but IU would bring even more to Purdue, were an actual rival, and not be nearly as bad as OSU or Michigan fans.

Ask most people that had to deal with Big Ten fans and most will say OSU or Michigan were the worst.

They would walk into the bar like they own the place, talk constant trash against you and your team, and be very disrespectful. More fights broke out with OSU and Michigan fans, and some of these years Purdue was really, really bad before Joe Tiller took over, so most Purdue fans didnt even care.

I am speaking from experience of having to work at bars and have the fans come to town. Really its not just me, we discussed it before OSU and Michigan games. It was very much dreaded.

And please dont think i am speaking to every single fan, that is impossible, just speaking to my experience bartending in the 90's from those fans as a group. Ofcourse there were many more good fans than bad at any school, just saying there seems to be more bad fans at OSU than any other school. (even if 80% are good fans, the 20% do ruin the experience for those of us that have to deal with the remainder)

I'm sorry but any fanbase that is the size of OSU is going to have a lot of "stupid" fans... As well as any fanbase that has experienced as much success as OSU will have a bit of arrogance to them.

I don't know who the fuck was boo'ing or saying anything negative to him because he was from Michigan, but if that's the case then the Browns have a lot of stupid fucking fans.

I don't think thats the case at all though. More likely that the fans jokingly say "Go Buckeyes" or hit him with a playful "O-H". I don't think they're being ignorant to our first round pick. If they are that's blasphemy.

100% agree with you about the size and success leading to it.

Where I disagree that saying anything about Buckeyes to him is playful. That is where we disagree. Why say that to him? He has to hear it dozens of times a day, it has to be wearing on him. Especially since he got beat by OSU every year he was there.

But yes we do mainly agree I just dont want to run a player out of town before we find out if he is good or not.

There's a fine line between "talking shit" and being playful about it.

I know, but I think it's ignorant in a situation like this to try to be playful when you already know there are mouth breathers talking shit. Like, he gets razzed about it constantly, but you think he's going to laugh when you think you're taking an original, playful jab? I'd tell you to shove it. And I guarantee it's more than "a couple".

You are wrong and ruining America along with all the other Millennials.

Just kidding. Good times.

Of course OSU and Michigan are the worst. They are the premier programs with a seemingly infinite number of fans. That's just how it goes. (Although, the recent cult movement by Penn State fans is truly something).

Regardless, this entire conversation is silly. All we know is Peppers isn't pleased with how he's been received by fans so far. Zero details. You took this and decided to slander an entire fanbase based on interactions you had 20-30 years ago. It's just silly.

Judging any fanbase off anecdotal evidence is kind of silly. At the end of the day the fans you encountered make up the smallest of fractions of the fanbase as a whole.

To the point I made earlier. What is the difference between a teammate doing it and the fans??

Any UM alum is going to get shit from his OSU alum teammate, and vice versa. It's the same for Auburn-Alabama and any college rivalry.

That's not even how the NFL works anyways. Retaining a player is with the power of the team, not the player in this league. So "running a player out of town" before we know if he's good just isn't going to happen. He's going to love playing in front of the Dawg Pound once he gets out there on game day. No doubt in my mind.
