2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I realize folks are very ' what have you done for me lately' but I would love to see Kip come back, get his spot back and get on track.

The Indians can certainly use Kipnis' bat somewhere in the lineup but 2B should be Jose's now and in the future. He's the team's best hitter and has a +7 DRS over Kipnis at 2B. Shouldn't really even be a debate honestly....

I think Kip moves to the OF full time

Then the Indians are still looking for a third basemen that can hit over .270

This may go completely unnoticed from today's game, but Jay Bruce got a hit vs a lefty for once. Watching him since he's been here I've noticed he looks like he has no chance of ever picking up a breaking ball from a lefty. I looked into some stats and was surprised to see he's a career .240 hitter vs lefties.

But since coming to the Indians vs lefties (entering Tuesday):
5 for 31 (.161), 12 K, 4 BB, 1 RBI, and 2 2B

Tonight vs Detroit lefties he went 1-3 with a walk. With how deep this team is and the options in the outfield, I imagine the Indians were watching tonight closely and continue to monitor how he plays vs lefties.

Keep in mind this may all be meaningless if Brantley doesn't make it back for the playoffs.

Would be such a bummer to lose Brantley for the playoffs. Again.

Worth mentioning:
We are 1 win up on the Nationals and 3 behind the Dodgers. They play a 3 game this series at Washington.

I haven't payed close enough attention but based on the games beforehand, Washington will avoid Kershaw and throw Gonzalez and Strausburg at LA.

Nope, 3B would be Yandy's.

Fangraphs loves Yandy's defense at 3B and he's potentially an elite contact hitter. The guy has a .382 OBP as a rookie.... that's pretty significant.
Why do you hate loyal, hard working players? Ones who give years of quality play, have one down year due to injuries, then you want to replace them with the cheaper imported labor because you think they could equal what the old worker produced? You sound like a Trump supporter.

I mean Yandy will never be a good glove at 3rd base, but he has been solid there. Also we have Urshela who would be a good glove at 3rd if he played everyday over there. Ramirez is a better defender at 2B than Kipnis so our defense ends up being better with him there.

Now long term the guys in the OF like Chisenhall, Brantley are not signed past next season. They have been playing Diaz, Ronny Rodriguez and other guys in the minors in the OF to get them reps to maybe eventually find a major league spot. So moving Kipnis to the OF actually may make more sense since Diaz, Urshela, Gonzalez are all better in the infield than OF, plus a guy like Ronny (who may be apart of this club next season) his best positon us 2B and guys like Stamets, Chang who are all INFs. I like moving someone to the OF and if Kipnis can do it and do it well, we are better off that way.

We have gone on a winning streak without him and Brantley.

Ramirez defense at 2B > than Kipnis defense

Young talent like Urshela, Diaz, Gonzalez, Ronny, Chang, etc all infielders

It's possible Brantley is off the roster next season (team option year) Chisenhall I am speculating will be moved to first in his final season. Guys like Jackson and Bruce are free agents. Allen is a year away from the pros Everyday. That leaves a spot open in the OF hence why they are looking at the move. If he can be average if not above Average out there we just created the room for the young ready talent at AAA to make this roster while filling in a hole for next season.

What in the fuck?

Are we talking baseball or something else?

I have no idea where you got the idea that I'm hating on Kipnis. It's not like I demanded that he be traded or anything.... he just needs to find a new position.... which he is.... in the OF. I think that should be his permanent home.

Jose is a better defender than Kipnis at 2B. Yandy Diaz has the potential to be an elite contact hitter (and on-base machine) and Fangraphs shows his defense at 3B could possibly be well above average.

Happens all the time in sports; get injured and it opens the doors of possibility for others in the organization. Unfortunately, sometimes your job status changes because others take advantage of an opportunity. That's life.

Yandy's emergence is an interesting development for the organization and moving Kip to the OF would allow the Indians to field their best roster now and in the future. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with the Indians maximizing their assets....

Also it's not like Kipnis has an issue with moving either at the end of the day. They moved him to 2nd base in the minors so he wouldn't be blocked out to get to the big leagues and at the end of the day was the right move. So moving him back isn't actually asking much and Francona prefers to have guys who can play multiple places. Look at Ramirez who ended up moving around a lot, but since he was willing and puts in the hard work they gave him a contract extension. Kipnis is still going to get his at bats and his paycheck.

I mean Chisenhall got moved from 3rd to LF and now has been asked to play the other OF positions and 1st base. Guys like Urshela have been asked to play other positions as well. Urshelas shot in the pros is being able to play these other positions well. I mean Diaz was playing OF in the minors so he would have more options (and partially because Diaz will never be at Urshelas level of defense). It's fairly common and most guys will make the move if it means more wins for the team/increased playing time.

After those terrible two series in SF and Oakland after the ASG, we had a record of 48-45....let that sink in.
