2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yea I think Miles, Bamba, and Brown are the guys that will be in the 6-9 range... Hopefully BKN falls in a better spot but as of now it's shaping up to be 5 or worse

Bamba is not going to be in the 6-9 range. He is going to have a very convicning season and he is going top 5 for sure, easily :(

I dunno...Doncic, Porter, Bagley, Ayton, and Bamba all seem like they'll easily go top-5, but there are enough guys like Brown knocking on the door that you can't call them locks. Doncic's probably the only guy who's truly a lock for top-5 at this point, because he's already proven so much over the last couple years.

Bruce Brown with an ugly 1-10. He's not squaring up well on his jumper early on in the season. Without the jumper his ceiling isn't quite as high. He should come around though. He's worked really hard at it.

Still had 6 assists though. He's an underrated play-maker. Has really good court vision.

Ayton looked flat out dominant, again. No real competition but if he plays like that all year he will go #1. I can already see myself starting to favor Ayton in all aspects. Due to Porters injury.... I'm changing my big-board already.

1. Ayton
2. Porter
3. Doncic
4. Bagley
5. Bamba

Excellent top 5. Let’s hope some more players push up and we have really something to look forward to (with less mood swings after every Bkn win).
Strength of the draft class is soooo important. When in doubt remember the Bennett Draft...

You look at Ayton and his physique, skills and measurements just tell your brain that your brain that he is the sexy number 1 pick, but I just see some red flags.

He is very fast from end to end, but he looks stiff running the floor, he doesn't look fluid like Bamba or Jaren Jackson running the floor and I worry about his knees.

He is a much better one leg jumper than he is jumping off of two legs. You can see it when he gets the ball deep.. he doesn't dunk the ball similar to guys like Jordan or Drummond, he just simply lays it in without much elevation. Even in his post ups, he barely elevates off the ground like you would expect someone with his vertical to do.

I like his mid range jump shots, looks similar to Myles Turner, he shoots it with much less arc, but his shooting motion looks almsot the same. Quick and compact.

He doesn't cover or do much off the ball. He doesn't set off-ball screens much at all and his on-ball screens are weak and he doesn't roll. I need him to improve that aspect of his game.

I want to see him attack off the dribble and i'd like to see more fluidity in a half court setting. Too much post up/elbow isolation. This comes back to his stiffness. He is very upright and looks like he lacks flexibility in a sense. He doesn't scrap or doing anything outisde of his zone. He doesn't go for loose balls and he doesn't have any dribbling game that consists of lateral movement. All in all, he lacks fluidity and it shows on both ends.

Another thing, he lowkey has bad hands. He fumbles the ball alot.

On defense, he doesn't do much at all outside his zone, doesn't cover much ground and even his rebounds are limited only to his man. Very dominant in his zone, but he has to extend his range. He lacks basketball IQ and you can see it on the defensive end.

Bottom line, He undoubtly has the physical gifts and even the talent to exceed, but I have seen a lot of gifted basketball players fail for the things that look "small" on paper. Do you think his physical advantage at the college level is definitely going to transfer to the NBA? Is he going to bully 5's? That's what i'd like to know.

On to Bamba, I see a very fluid, heady player with tremendous physical gifts that is just scraching the surface.

I think he can develop great ball handling skills for a 5, I think he can be an all-around player in due time.. it might take him a few years, but his ceiling is undoubtly the highest in this draft.

His shot looks smooth even when it doesn't go in.. has a relative consistent form for a guy with a 7'9 wingspan. Not afraid to take the shot which is a great sign.

Doesn't have elite explosion in the PnR, but it's still better than Goberts. Gobert is a bigger target, but Bamba's standing reach make up for it and it's not like he isn't explosive, just not elite like Drummond and Jordan.

Compared to Ayton, he has much bigger, more fluid strides. I think he can develop a game that extends to the 3pt line, can be an attacker off the dribble similar to guys like Horford.

On defense, I think he can anchor the defense by himself. You put him on our team and we become an elite defensive team. As for his switching defense, I gotta see more, but it's promising.

Obviously he lacks strength right now, and it might take him some time, but his frame is promising.

He is still very raw and he could struggle early on on offense in the NBA, but I always like to take the high character guy and in that case he does have a game.

All in all, it's a top heavy, but a very deep draft. We should be pretty happy with whomever falls to our hands.. Let's just hope our FO do their job this time.

Here Mo from the other day

Here is a video of Alonzo Trier, but use it to watch Ayton's off the ball. It gives you an idea of how stiff he is, how he screens, etc.. Despite of his range, he doesn't provide any space, the paint is congested. He needs to be effective without the ball.

Bamba's arms are so long, they don't even look real. Holy shit.

Biggest differnce between him and Gobert as far as physique go is that Gobert is just a much bigger dude. Height and even girth play a role on both offense and defense imo. He can have the same wingspan and standing reach as Gobert, but Gobert is still more intimidating inside. Being a big body is huge. Bamba will have problems with explosive, much stronger dudes coming at him for a dunk, even Gobert has that problem from time to time. I hope that in time he will be able to add mass to that frame.

But from this very short clip, do you have an opinion? I know it's early, but i'm still curious.

Hard to draw much considering northwestern state is generally a small team. I think the one thing I take away is that I didn't realize how skilled he was. He was comfortable handling the ball and he actually has a decent looking shot.

The downside, from that short clip, is he doesn't look super assertive. He's kind of tentative in his movements. I can't tell how explosive he is, but it may be because he's so damn long it doesn't look like he's moving that fast.

I'll have to make sure I watch a game, probably when he goes up against Kansas. Azubuike isn't an NBA prospect, but he's a huge body that should beat him up.

The more guys I see in this class, the more excited I get. Porter, Bagley, Doncic, Ayton, Bamba, Brown... this is going to be like an 8 player draft by the time we get to June (and the Cavs will have the ninth pick (ha))

Deeper imo, but we will see. THis dtaft looks fucking awesome. I do hope we keep our pick aswell. Tons of intriguing prospects that should be available.

Just looked at the Bamba's clip thumbnail and damn, his build looks freakish.

The thing about bamba's skill level is it seems to be due to rigorous practice. Watch his ft technique it's completely regimented and consistent. That's hours of practice there

I'll be at the MSU-Duke and KU-UK games in Chicago tomorrow. I'll report back on Bagley, Bridges, Knox and anyone else you guys want a heads up on.

Love to hear your breakdown from the top prospects' pregame shooting routine and mechanics. Have fun man, should be an absolute blast!
