2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Young will play in the NBA, but his chances of being as or any where near good as CP3 are not good. I dont even think he is anywhere near Donovan Mitchell as a prospect. No way he is above Bamba and Ayton at this point either. That is a interesting take to say the least.

What I said, specifically, was "he and Doncic offer a combination of scoring and playmaking that we haven't seen in a prospect since...CP3"

If you disagree, then what prospect since CP3 was as good of a scorer and playmaker as Young? Certainly not Mitchell...and I'm a big Mitchell fan. Last summer I proposed that the Cavs trade Kyrie for Rubio, Mitchell, and a pick.

It's nothing personal with Young. What he's doing is, admittedly, absurd. I'm not convinced he's unique in his spot. I think there are a number of guys that, if you gave them the ball for forty minutes a game, said "don't worry about shot selection," and built the whole offense around them, they could put up similar numbers. But they're not, and Young is. Props.

That said, whether LeBron is here or not, I want no part of small, unathletic dudes, with (at best) above average handles, that need the ball at all times to be effective. Let him go to Phoenix or Orlando. And if he succeeds, more power to him.

But after what we just saw for 15 games this season, he's a hard pass for me.

I think we should focus on a guys that can play also defense. Young on defense will be same as IT.

I think the big question is if they get the chance and say they are in the 5th or 6th spot does this front office have the guts to take Porter?

I agree that at least a handful of guys could match or come close to his raw points/assists numbers if you gave them the chance. The difference with Young, though, is that his stats aren't entirely hollow. Last year Oklahoma had the 250th-most efficient offense in the NCAA, according to sports-reference. This year, even after a series of bad losses, they're 27th. That kind of team-level impact is something you rarely see from a freshman.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I don't think he's a great fit on this team either. The Cavs are obviously already elite offensively, and we're going to get diminishing returns if we keep adding offense-first players.

I had a hard time picking the cutoff between tiers 2 and 3.

I could've had only Jackson in tier 2, but I thought that would be a little odd given how crowded tier 3 is.

I could've bumped Porter up, but then, he still hasn't even played a college game. I could've jumped Carter ahead of Porter and into tier 2, but I figured it would be prudent to wait before I move him even higher. I could've put Bagley or Bamba or Ayton in tier 2, but I think those guys have even bigger red flags than Porter and Carter.

If I did it again, I might go with Jackson/Young/Porter/Carter in tier 2a, and Bagley/Sexton/Ayton/Bamba in tier 2b.

I know he hasn't played yet, but I'm personally sky high on Porter.

I just don't see how a guy with his skillset and body combination doesn't translate to being someone like Otto Porter at minimum.

Anyone willing to post the new draft express mock draft

1. Kings - Luka Doncic
2. Hawks - DeAndre Ayton
3. Suns - Mo Bamba
4. Magic - Marvin Bagley III
5. Bulls - Jaren Jackson Jr
6. Cavs - Michael Porter Jr

With an uncertain future on the horizon due to LeBron James' free agency, the Cavs will need to stockpile as much talent as they can regardless of their hopes of keeping the King at home. Porter came into the season with the hope of making a run at being the No. 1 pick in the draft, but unfortunately he hasn't been able to build his case because of a back injury.

The results of his medical examination will play a significant role in where he is ultimately drafted, but NBA teams don't appear to be overly concerned right now about the nature of the injury and his long-term prognosis.

7. 76ers - Trae Young
8. Mavs - Wendell Carter
9. Grizzlies - Miles Bridges
10. Knicks - Collin Sexton
11. Jazz - Mikal Bridges
12. Hornets - Kevin Knox
13. Clippers - Robert Williams
14. Nuggets - Troy Brown
15. Pacers - Dzanan Musa

Do they have Jontay Porter and Zhaire Smith getting drafted later in the first round or are they assuming those two stay in school?

While I like Mikel Bridges and Young is of course interesting, if can get a top6 pick and take on of those six from the latest DX/ESPN Mock I would be over the moon.

But to be honest, with the nature of the NBA as it is, as long as the back checks out and that is no a long term concern, I would take Michael Porter Jr over all others in this draft. Just don't think there is anything on offense he can't do or anyone who can stop him from getting his shot. And playing off LeBron. Forget it.

But, as I said, those top 6, especially if it's with LeBron, I'd be ecstatic.

Also, what's everyones take on Myles Turner? How would you profile him now/next season compared to the players available in this draft?

Sam Venecie at the Athletic just had Porter mocked to the Cavs too at 6.

I love Myles Turner. Does everything I want from a C at least reasonably well. Average roll man, can pick and pop better than most, above average rim protection. Doesn't turn 22 for another month. Would take him now over all of the bigs in the draft besides Ayton, he's so safe and still has room for growth in a lot of areas. Honestly would even have to think over Ayton vs Turner for awhile. Just so much unknown with Ayton's rim protection - which to me is the most important trait of the center position. But I know I'm higher on Turner than pretty much everyone lol.

I brought it up because, and yes its an way outside chance, but IND is really high on Sabonis. If they fall in love with someone like Porter or Young and those guys are available at our pick, would both teams give thought to a trade of that pick for Turner.

Or does see Turner and Sabonis as complimentary pieces that can start together long term?

Interesting thought. Would imagine the Cavs would fall in love with someone during the draft process though... Plus based on the Kyrie trade press conference, Dan Gilbert is pissed as fuck at Pritchard and the Pacers lol.

Plus you're also losing out on 3 years of rookie scale contract, as Turner would be going into his fourth year. I'd seriously consider it though if I was the Cavs based on who was on the board. I don't think the Pacers will have any intentions of moving Turner though.

Just noticed they added an updated 2019 NBA mock draft.

Has Jontay Porter going #11, Zharie Smith #16

as well as a number of other guys they expect to stay out of this year's draft.
