2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not that he wasn't serviceable while here, but couldn't we throw the Orioles a guy like Merritt? Any other guys big league ready?

I mean we have Kluber, Carasco, Clevinger, Bauer, Bieber & Plutko if needed. A guy like Merritt seems to have been passed over. Very few spots available especially with a guy like McKenzie waiting in the wings.

Nobody thinks Merritt is a major league starter. He’s worth next to nothing.

He’s AAA depth and major league spot starter.

If the Yankees get Machado :doh (1):

Word is he is signing there, so it’s going to happen now or in 2019.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Machado would be a rental for the Yankees as well. That's why they don't want to include Sheffield.

You'd need to trade like 20 Merritts to rent Machado

I mean, why do they word it like that?

Yankees have "strong interest" in trading for Manny Machado. They are "serious" about acquiring him.

Very odd how they do that. Unless they just want to have the Yankees or Dodgers trade for him.

It was a great win tonight, offense was great.. But I still wanna roll the dice and add Manny Machado. Really hope we pull it off.

Wonder what a realistic trade package for Manny Machado and Zach Britton would look like on our end.

Of all posters, we definitely know you want the household name the most :chuckle:

If it's reasonable, shoot for the moon.

If they want Bieber or McKenzie or Meija, they can:

If he's really serious about being a SS long-term, I don't know why he'd go to the Yankees where he's obviously their 3B

I'm just now starting to get over not getting Dwight and Melo bro...

Machado is the shiny object but I have seen Raisel Iglesias start to bubble up as a possible reliever to hit the market. He seems like a nice fit for the Indians and would create a pretty strong 1-2 if Miller ever gets back.

Effective at all bullpen spots and the ability to pitch multiple innings / under team control for an additional year. He's one of the few guys rumored to be on the market that is still relatively young and has sustained success over 100+ innings. No clue what it would cost though.

I'll also get on my stump here and say the Indians should swallow pitching assets for power positional players. The Indians have infield versatility to lean on here.....where if they acquire a plus player who can hold down 3rd, we could kick Jose to 2nd and bump Kips blackhole spot out of the lineup. It's too bad Machado is a stuck up prick, as he would be the ideal acquisition to do the above, assuming we could protect the obvious farm guys. The organization has an incredible track record at identifying and developing pitching talent. We can find more pitchers (and will). I'm not advocating for the club to recklessly overpay but I do think we need to consider cashing in an arm or two for someone who can displace Kip. I don't think that's MM, given the chatter out of his camp but there do seem to be some other options out there that are cheaper.

Why do we need someone to displace Kip? That seems very far from a need at this point.

If you still think he's a black hole in the lineup, you haven't been watching the last two months.

He was objectively awful last post-season. He hasn't produced a stretch of sustained hitting for what? 18 months? His platoon stats against righties are also horrendous. I don't know how anyone can trust that he'll ever be the same guy he was in his AS years. He has continued to level off after an early June that was good.

It's not the Indians #1 need but moving off of Kips lineup spot should be a priority in an AL that features the top 4 hitting teams in all of baseball. The Tribe certainly needs to plug bullpen leaks first but upgrading a lineup spot, given the landscape of the AL, needs to be considered as well.

He was hurt all of last season. I don't hold that against him in terms of what he can do for us right now and moving forward.

He's been really good for the last two months, basically All-Star level. His overall numbers are just dragged down by a brutal April.

.273/.360/.494 with 9 HR over the Indians last 50 games. That's 1/3 of the season. Is that enough of a sustained stretch?

Replacing Kipnis should not be a priority at all after the production he's given us the last two months.

If there's a readily available star you can slide in, sure, but I don't see that happening.
