The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Was at the park shooting hoops today and saw hundreds of people walking around playing Pokemon Go

Had no idea that was still a thing

Apparently there was a special event today or something
Yep. Squirtle event that gave him sunglasses (Squirtle Squad for those who dont know). People tend to go nuts during the events but most communities are pretty small regularly.

Really enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn. Started it a few days ago. Kind of Witcher-ish I guess? Seems like it could pack a good amount of hours.

Thinking about getting back into online gaming, mainly first person shooters.

Any recommendations? I've played PUBG a couple times (third-person, I know), have never played Fortnite, and have never played Overwatch. Typically if I play a shooter these days it's either Destiny 2 (I just started playing again, trying to get maxed on light level before Forsaken drops in the fall) or Modern Warfare Remastered.

Is Overwatch worth it? What about Rainbow Six: Siege? Any others that I'm forgetting?

PUBG has a first person mode, I highly recommend it and I find it a far superior perspective for this type of battle royale. Fortnite is third-person only but it works because of the added building aspect. If you enjoy building games you will probably like Fortnite better than PUBG. Overwatch can be a lot of fun and it's extremely well made, but it's a class based shooter in the vein of TF2.

It really depends on what you're looking for, if you want a competitive twitch shooter, CS:GO is still at the top of this list IMO. If you want something a little more casual then maybe Overwatch is for you.

PUBG is my favorite BR game but don't expect a polished game. It's been out for about a year and a half and still has it's bugs, plus it just plays "clunky". I would definitely give first person perspective a shot though.

And TF2 is still free like always and a hell of a lot of fun.

@Marcus if you decide to start playing TF2, PM me. I can give you some free weapons if I have any extras (you get them through random drops) and run you through some basics. Been playing the game for a decade. Probably rusty as hell right now since I haven't played in about a month, but usually just takes an hour or so to get back into the groove.

Had another amazing Sea of Thieves experience last night.

My buddy and I were on a sloop. First time I've used the sloop in literally months. Don't even remember the last time I was on one unless it was another crew's sloop that I was boarding to destroy. My friend was trying to finish up the most recent event that tasks you with destroying a certain number of cursed statues in the waters surrounding islands in the game. I had finished it the night before, so was just there to help.

A skull fort popped up shortly into our play session and we decided to go for it, sloop be damned.

A couple of other sloops showed up while we were fighting the skeleton waves. We successfully sunk both of them, but one of them managed to bomb us while I was off the ship and the blast killed my buddy, so our ship sunk as well. I was still alive and made it back to the island and my buddy respawned there as well. Usually if you die while the ship is sinking you respawn in the water where it sunk rather than wherever the new ship spawns. Presumably this is to give you a fighting chance for any loot you were carrying on the ship as it sunk, and possibly also to allow you a chance for revenge against those who sunk you.

Ultimately, we killed the two other players (one from each sloop, I believe) that made it to the island after their ships sunk and were left there alone. We decided to work on the skeleton waves in the hopes that we could get the key from the boss and I could use a PC exploit to teleport it back to our ship, wherever it was. If that failed (works about 50-75% of the time), he'd be there to grab the key and hide it. Didn't quite work out that way. He got cornered by some skeletons and beat to death, leaving me on the island alone. I didn't have my sword on me (I use sniper and shotgun for PvP), which made the prospect of fighting waves alone unwise, so I grabbed a bomb and hid in one of the cannon towers surrounding the island.

Shortly after, I saw a galleon incoming. Luckily for me, they decided to park right between my tower and the tower next to me (the typical parking spot for maximum defensive capabilities). Unluckily for me, I saw they were clearing out the towers. They cleared the other one first, but a few seconds later I heard someone swimming to my tower.

I figured it was now or never, so I grabbed my bomb and jumped out the opposite side of the tower from the ladder the enemy was climbing up. Somehow, no one noticed me as I swam to their ship. I got bold and, rather than releasing the bomb below their ship and letting it drift up and explode, I climbed up their ladder. Didn't see anyone, so I ran the bomb down to their hold, lit the fuse (this was added a month or so ago...if you light it, it goes boom in five seconds), and ran like hell.

I survived, but the blast alerted their entire crew. There was, at most, one guy on the ship with me, but for whatever reason he was just taking potshots at me with the pistol instead of getting close and fighting me, which let me camp the ship's ladders. I killed the first guy that climbed up with a short range shotgun blast. I saw two guys in the water so I switched to my rifle and shot one of them, killing him instantly as the other guy climbed up the ladder. Swapped back to my shotgun and blasted him, and although it wasn't an instant kill, it did knock him off the ship. The fourth guy finally got some balls and came after me, but he ate my shotty and died in one shot. I capped it off by jumping into the water as their ship sank and sniping the third guy that had escaped my previous wrath.

In another bit of luck, they apparently had several bombs in their crow's nest that floated to the surface after their ship went down. Even more lucky, three of their players spawned in right as the bombs floated to the surface, so I shot the bombs and killed one of them instantly. I didn't know about the third guy at the time (found out about him a bit later), but I did chase the second guy to shore and gunned him down.

My buddy got back with our ship a short time later, at which point that third guy I didn't know about started shooting our ship with cannons. Unfortunately for him, our cannon had a line of sight to his tower so I just blasted him a couple of times and finished him off.

We beat the fort shortly later and cashed out, but that was a damned good time. Sinking a galleon literally by yourself is always an amazing experience, and one that doesn't happen terribly often.

Is No Man's Sky worth getting after the update? It's also on sale right now on PS Store, so I'm considering it. Me and my brother are really looking for a new game because we are tired of the ones we are playing right now.

I really want a like open world multiplayer experience where you can party like 2-4 people. I think No Man's Sky might fit that bill now after the update, but I don't know if the game play is still stale. Monster Hunter World is something we have been considering, kind of waiting for a price drop.

My brother came across a game called Mount and Blade: Warband that he tried to convince me we should try. It looks okay I guess but came out in 2010 on PC. Not sure if it's a good Ps4 experience. Seems comically bad graphically of course, but I'm more interested in how fun the game play is. I did research but have never played games like that. It looks like they are coming out with a new game soon but still TBA. If the price drops to 5 dollars again, probably harmless to give it a shot.

Any other suggestions?

Getting Madden this year. Im getting sucked in since the Browns are good.

You joking? Do you have any idea what the Browns Madden ranking is this year?

Or are you talking about that you HOPE that they end up good this year, and then EA does a ranking update?

"Cleveland Browns – 74"

I'm never too worried about ratings in sports games, they help, but a gameplan can overcome quite a bit.

I guess I'm just more excited about all of the options & weapons we have. It will make going online with the Browns a good time.

Anyone on PC that hasn’t been playing Escape from Tarkov I don’t like you....

That game looks so fun.

It's a biased recommendation because I love the game personally, but this newest iteration of Quake is so much more dynamic and more newbie friendly than any other with the addition of special abilities. Different champions also have different movement techniques (some have the basic strafe jumping, some have air-control, some can walljump, crouch-slide, double-jump in the air etc.). It's in the Early Access right now, so they're constantly updating it, adding new maps/champions to the mix. There actually was an update today, adding a new champion (Death Knight) as well as bots.

Celeste is amazing if anyone was looking to pick up a great 2D indie platformer.

Every like 4 months I remember Overwatch and become re-obsessed. Dang I forgot how fun this game is.

Brigitte really re-inspired me to play again. What an awesome hero.
