2019 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I expect a wide open offense with less zone read sets, now that Day can finally not worry about including Urbana’s love for the zone read and running the qb.

Boy are you going to be disappointed.

I can’t see why anyone would be disappointed with more zone read. It’s all about keeping a D off balance.

My interpretation is:

Miller was a stud but wasn’t a great passer, and we really didn’t have the right concepts.

Barrett was less of a stud but ran really well, was really tough, and a great leader. Couldn’t throw very well.

Haskins couldn’t run for shit so the dive threat was taken away. We didn’t figure out the scope of the problem until Purdue, and everyone played like shit. Haskins got better, going from 1/10 to 2/10 in running, but not a threat. Let me say that it’s not an indictment on Haskins, as this dude is far and away the best QB we have had. He spins the ball and reads a defense and throws guys open. Will be a problem in the NFL if he goes to the Patriots. I love Haskins, he just can’t run.

Which brings us to Fields. I haven’t pulled up his highlight tapes or anything, but my very limited perception is that he can run AND throw, but don’t expect Haskins level throwing, and always remember Haskins broke Big 10 records. But if Fields can go through progressions and throw guys open (be patient - these are kids that get better with time), and he has more speed and toughness than Haskins, then the future is bright.

Personally I don’t think this offseason could have gone much better. I was legit terrified of Meyer leaving. I thought we could have spent years(!!!) where without the right coach, the talent leaves and then is hard to recruit, and we are no longer a dominant top 5 program, stuck in a shitty negative feedback loop. Instead we land a top 3 QB recruit, Haskins endorsing the program and helping with that, we land an incredible coach/recruit from our rival no less, and we had that other recruit (Harrison) end up coming our way as well. From a turbulence standpoint, landing the Meyer plane has gone incredibly well.

Fields and Martell are ideal zone-read QBs

Both of them have the same sort of feel with the decision, similar to what JT had during his tenure.

I totally agree w/ @billmac91 with regards to the downhill back. Dobbins is not cut out for that ground and pound stuff all year. One of Master Teague or Marcus Crowley needs to step into that void immediately.

Drumbeats are increasing that Greg Studrawa will be out (via a move over to Maryland with Mike Locksley). Also, looks like the Corey Raymond dream is dead.

Not along ago, we were wondering if Urban was going to have Haskins or Tate be the starter next year.

Now, it's possible none of the 3 will be there.

UCLA would make a ton of sense for Martell.
I think Miami would as well. Two of his HS teammates (Brevin Jordan and Bubba Bolden) are there and, if Tate is able to graduate this semester as expected, the QB depth chart there is extremely favorable to where he could be the starter without much competition.

I actually just realized Martell's backup in HS is now the starter at UCLA. Not sure he'd want to go there and steal his job.

But you're right, Miami makes a ton of sense.

West Virginia not so much, IMO. Jack Allison is the future there.

Tater talked all that mess and just dipped out :chuckle:

Right

I kinda feel bad for the kid as well. I’ve had a chance to talk to him a couple times and I think the kid loves Ohio State. He has put in a lot of time with those guys just to see another dude come in. I get it, just tough spot for him to be in.
