2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm on board trading Martin this season, but I'd wait until we can actually replace him in CF. Zimmer isn't back yet, Mercado hasn't shown that he's consistent enough in the OF, and I don't like Greg Allen out there everyday.

I'd much rather just cut bait with Naquin.
Naquin still has two options left and under control until 2023. You would rather cut him instead of see if he strikes lighting in bottle in Columbus?

Ha, completely forgot about the Gerrit Cole thing.

Yeah, thats not happening.

:chuckle:

San Diego would need to include Franmil Reyes or Frenchy Cordero for me.

Or they could center a prospect package around Mackenzie Gore.

Franmil Reyes, Luis Patino, Cal Quantrill for Bauer and Leonys Martin

Mackenzie Gore, Luis Patino and Josh Naylor for Bauer

Any chance that San Diego would trade Urias straight up for Bauer? He’s struggled in limited time in the big leagues, but has destroyed AAA pitching and remains a top 30 prospect overall.

Maybe.

But if this team wants to compete, the larger hole is Power and run production.

The Indians value middle of the diamond players like Urias, but I’m not sure that’s the fit they should be chasing for a Bauer type player.

Naylor makes a lot of sense for this team, and we know that the organization thinks highly enough of his brother.

I know this is very hard to do, but if you make the assumption this current run is over; when do you think our next window opens up?

Benson, Bradley & Jones have intrigued the hell out of me and looks like they could be an above average core. If we do bottom out for a season or two, maybe it would make sense to throw the farm at Lindor and hope to keep him around for the next run.

Also, what do we think of Mercado, Bauers & Luplow's ceilings?

I think they've set themselves up well to be competitive for a long time. That's been one of their priorities since the front office change (establishing consistency as opposed to volatility). Now, there is obviously a difference between being a championship contender and a potential playoff team, but I also think people are looking a bit too far ahead and putting the cart before the horse.

Even if they trade away 1 of Bauer or Kluber, or even both, their pitching is going to be just fine. They've created an absurd pitching pipeline, and what you're seeing and have been seeing from Clevinger, Bieber, and now Plesac should have you at ease. They have a stud top prospect who just needs to get healthy as well. Their starting pitching is set for a long time IMO.

Lindor and Ramirez are still locked up for the next 2+ seasons. A lot of money potentially comes off of their books in the next 2 years, and a new TV deal is coming in 3 years. And then on top of that, you have guys like Bradley, Johnson, Haase, and Chang (when he gets healthy) all knocking on the door this year, while Mercado is already up performing.

They have set themselves up really well to not have a "bottom out" year or 2. And I am still skeptical that they have seen their "window close". I think they need to tweak some stuff, but they still have a ton of talent and a steady pipeline of prospects coming through.

As for ceilings, I'm not always the biggest fan of saying what a player may be. But if you want something on those 3 guys I will try.

Mercado, his offensive profile reminds me a lot of Elvis Andrus. Think his approach could lead to more power than Andrus though. He could be a gold glove CF as well (they need to play him there everyday ASAP IMO).

Bauers, I know a lot of people are kind of giving up on him, but he's only 23, younger than Mercado who is still viewed as a "prospect". He hasn't been as bad in the OF as I expected him to be, but I think being out there is effecting his hitting a little negatively. I love his swing, I love his power, and I love his eye at the plate. I think his ceiling offensive numbers can look like Santana's typically does. Lowish BA, but high OBP and Slugging to make up for it.

Luplow will always be a vs LHP platoon guy for me, IMO. He mashes LHP, but he is really bad vs RHP and I can't see him being even league average in that regard. He can be a pre-injury Guyer clone with a bit more pop for us, which is a very useful player with how many of our high ranking OF prospects coming through are LH hitters.

Excellent post. Thank you.

In 9 games at AAA Johnson has a 1.013 OPS.

He'll be 24 in July, the time is definitely NOW.

We need to move Martin and let Johnson come up and play!

I really would like your thoughts on Mathias and possible 2nd/3rd base prospects who could play now for us and also opinion on should we keep Ramirez at 3rd or move him to 2nd?

Few teams come to mind.

Astros:

Forrest Whitley
Kyle Tucker

I can't imagine they'd give up Yordan Alvarez at this point, but those other two guys would certainly be intriguing. Whitley is getting murdered in AAA, but has plus plus stuff and would be a great fit in this development culture.

Kyle Tucker and Corbin Martin for Bauer seems like a reasonable ask.

Phillies:

Adam Haseley
Alec Boem
Adonis Medina
Francisco Morales

They've struggled to find consistency in their rotation, but do have some good depth. Not sure if they'd be a player for Bauer, but have some intriguing guys.

Adam Haseley, Francisco Morales and Rafael Marchan for Bauer would be a good package.

Toolsy, contact oriented CF with pitching upside and a switch hitting catcher in Marchan are three things the Indians have historically valued.

Braves:

Christian Pache
Kyle Wright
Ian Anderson

With Austin Riley now hitting bombs in the big leagues, the package could focus on the three guys above. Pache is a future All-Star in CF, with unbelievable range and defensive skills.

He's only 20, the bat is only slightly behind considering the level he's at.

Indians liked Anderson quite a bit coming out of HS.

Christian Pache, Ian Anderson and LHP Kyle Muller would be my ask.

Not a fan of the Philly one. I like the Atlanta trade, but I am not sure we get both Pache and Anderson.

I honestly didn't know he still had options left. It feels like he's been around forever at this point.

I'd cut bait with him in terms of the MLB team this year. I couldn't care less if he hangs around as a AAAA outfielder or he asks to go to another team that has an MLB spot for him. I just want Mercado in CF, Johnson in LF, and Bradley at DH every day as soon as possible.

I was a big fan of Red Thunder Clint Frazier because of his pop, but to compare him with Bradley, i was left feeling like damn, we got something.

Frazier: 2853 PA and 90 HRs
Bradley: 2599 PA and 132 HRs

This AAA run Bradley is on is very impressive. I cannot wait anymore. Why bring him up when we fall further out of contention? His stick would move the needle.

Look, I really like Bobby Bradley (and Daniel Johnson) as much as the next guy but the fact is that every MLB team is taking stats at AAA with a pretty large grain of salt. The ball is seriously juiced down there right now.

I haven't seen enough from either guy to know whether their approach at the dish is MLB ready yet or not but it's something to consider. Not saying they aren't ready but, like most people, I've pretty much only scouted the boxscore. With the roster gymnastics needed to fit either guy onto the big club roster, I think it's okay the Indians are taking their time in making a decision.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think it's just cut-and-dry-- guy rakes in AAA, get's called up. It's slightly more complex than that right now.

I think what people are really asking for is a personnel change with the team. They are all hoping bringing up Bradley, Johnson etc will give us a better overall offense and help this team win more games at the end of the day. Even though people seem to overall want to punt the season, doesn't mean they don't hope the young guys don't produce and still get us a wild card spot at the end of the day. I think people want to see a change and they are hoping for these guys to bring a spark to the team that we need.
