2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think what people are really asking for is a personnel change with the team. They are all hoping bringing up Bradley, Johnson etc will give us a better overall offense and help this team win more games at the end of the day. Even though people seem to overall want to punt the season, doesn't mean they don't hope the young guys don't produce and still get us a wild card spot at the end of the day. I think people want to see a change and they are hoping for these guys to bring a spark to the team that we need.

I know why people are saying what they are about changing the roster and calling up players.

I’m not saying these guys aren’t good. I really like both players as prospects and my post history proves that.

I’m just saying that if you’re using the box score to scout a prospect to determine their readiness for the MLB, it’s not a great determinant right now with the extra juiced ball in AAA.

I mean, shit, 7-8-9 hitters in AAA have an OPS in the mid .700’s or higher. It’s crazy. The home run rate in AAA has gone from 0.8 per 9 to 1.3 per 9. Based on MLB home run rate stats, that’s like going from 1990 to 2019 and MiLB did it in one season.

Small sample but Gabriel Rodriguez has 11 RBI and a 1.159 OPS in his first 4 MiLB games. Hit his first HR today.

He'll probably out-grow SS but he's on par with Valera in-terms of talent for me.

He's big, big time.

Huge time

Would you guys be okay with seeing Civale or Morgan getting the 5th spot in the rotation until Clev comes back?

I'm an absolute no on Civale, he just doesn't have the stuff to be an MLB starter

Sandlin got touched up for 2 runs in 1.1 IP in his Columbus debut

He did strike out 3 though

I think if they moved him to the bullpen he could play up enough to be a guy there.

Even just as a spot starter/bullpen starter for 3-4 starts just to fill in? I figured he would be a bullpen arm going forward, just looking for someone who can eat some innings until Clev is ready. Who would you trust in the minors right now the most to do spot starts until Clev is ready?

He got hit in his last couple Akron outings, so lets see if its just one of those bad times or if people are starting to figure him out. I see him replacing Otero in the bullpen since they seem to be the lower angled multiple inning bullpen control arm. Sandlin just throws faster which is nice, so he really could be an asset going forward, he just doesnt miss bats as much as a guy like Karinchak does.

Agreed, his curve/slider combo would play up well out of the pen.

I'd personally be ok with bullpen days. Given a little more notice, I think Cole could be a bulk-inning guy in a bullpen day scenario.

I don't think anybody has figured out Sandlin, he was bound to give up a few runs eventually. Nobody strikes out guys at the rate Karinchak did to start the season, but Sandlin has still struck out over 14 guys per 9 innings, which is an incredible figure. I certainly wouldn't describe him as a control arm in the mold of an Otero-type.

I guess I worded that wrong, I didn't mean he is Otero, I just meant he would replace Otero in the bullpen normally being the 6th inning area guy who can go multiple innings since he has good control and has a lower arm slot. Sandlin talent wise is a much better arm overall, I just thinking he would be that guy who does the similar role of the multi inning arm, who is one of the first guys in and does multiple innings. Shoot I mean overall, if guys like Karinchak, Sandlin, Nelson, Broom etc become what we think they could be, we may have one of the best pens in the pros going forward.

Nelson I don't know much about, but he has been also putting up ridiculous numbers from the left side, then most of us project Civale and Hentges out of the pen as well, which would give us, 6-7 guys coming up, about the same age and hitting the big leagues about the same time, all from the pen.

Obviously, at least a few of those guys will end up not making it for one reason or another, or they could end up being throw-ins in a trade of some sort. Tough to say. That's why it's nice to have so many of them in the minors right now.

I was a fan of both Heller and Feyereisen before sending them to NY in the Miller deal, and Heller is the only one of the two to make the majors, and he's been out over a year with Tommy John. Feyereisen is in his 3rd year of AAA, and while he hasn't done poorly, he hasn't lit the world on fire either.

True, projection wise we have a ton of arm talent, so thats a really good start and all an organization can do! I mean its rare for any organization to have that many guys, all about the same age, hitting AA and AAA about the same time, who have solid potential like that. Civale we will know next season what teams feel about him, since he is a guy teams may take a flier on in the rule 5.

What do you know about Nelson btw? He is a lefty who seems to be destroying AA hitters so thats usually a good projection going forward.

Nelson might be my favorite of the current crop. Lefty, who gets guys out on both sides of the plate, has been a multi-inning guy, and hardly walks anybody (147 K and 20 BB in 97.2 IP).

Also, I'd be shocked if anybody was willing to give Civale a 25 man roster spot going into next year.

Civale I feel will finish the season at AAA while Hillman actually could get moved to AA for a few starts since both seem to be pitching well overall. Civale as a bullpen arm though may have different value projection wise than a starter so we could see if a team chances him there that way.

Civale probably will finish the year at AAA, I still doubt anybody would touch him in the rule 5 draft. He just don’t profile as the type that usually gets taken.

As far as Hillman goes, I think he’s been rather underwhelming this year. He’s definitely disappointed me.
