Didn't know where to post this video, so figured I'd just start this thread early...

NBA commissioner Adam Silver: 'I don't think having 2 superteams is good for the league'
http://www.sbnation.com/2016/7/12/12168934/adam-silver-warriors-kevin-durant-superteams-bad-for-nba
Finally Cavs have bee recognized as a Superteam.

Does Silver not remember the Celtics and the Lakers of the eighties? Both these teams were built by the GMS cornering the draft market.

Drafting reform comes and then one team emerges and nearly dominates an entire decade.

Then you have have the Lakers create their own superteam again to kick off the century. and the majority of the league turned into development squads for teenagers.

Celtics then take a stab at the super team model and the Lakers buy out the league follow by the Heat making the super super team.

keep changing the rules Silver. teams will find other ways to gather talent better than others.

Adam Silver instead of going to the Players union and blaming them for these "superteams" take a look at the Owners.

This cycle of teams tanking. then having impatient owners continuously blowing up rosters after a couple failed playoff runs is far more detrimental.

also its not as easy to build a "superteam" Brooklyn, Lakers, The Knicks, Atlanta and Houston have all failed at some level in the last 5 years trying to build their own superteams.

If Silver wants to really give teams a chance he would require that players entering the league have 3 or 4 years of College/Dleague/ European league experience before being allowed to play in the NBA.

This is the first few season hat a team has to spend 90% of the cap. give it some time to have its desired effect.

Look at Memphis. A contender Built by drafts and trades. not able to spend a dime to support their core because of the salary and cap limitations handed to them by a CBA intended to bolster small market teams.

The NFL has parity. that's mostly because you have 50 man rosters
so their structure works for them
NBA has 13 man rosters and the top 3 players can have a huge impact on the teams fortunes.

What they should be doing is exempting all first 4 year contracts from the salary cap and 90% min. increase the roster size to 15 with an additional 3 spots dedicated for d league call ups( this would allow clubs to use those players for emergency purposes and structure things so these teams may be competitive while they rebuild.

Then the league should look at the 82 game schedule. bring back some regular season rivalries and go to a baseball style schedule where teams play each other 2-2 series 3 times a season. that's 48 games. then 5 more 4 game series against other divisions and 3 series against western conference teams. + 1 2 games series.
This will force teams to get to know each other and force matchup strategy.

NBA altering the rules regarding intentional fouls.. it's hard to describe how much I hate that. So the NBA is going to help the Drummond's of the world because.. why??

Because they are crying out to keep the center position relevant. small ball is a trend at the moment but the league would be better served with a balanced offensive approach from all teams and not the league rushing to gun 100 triples a game. Not enough teams have the shooters

I like the commish coming out and making a statement... Look, it does resemble the 80's a bit and that's cool-- but this isn't the 80's and the NBA finals isn't coming on CBS tape delayed around 11:30 at night nor is handing out 10 year 10 million dollar contracts any longer...

Fact of the matter is this is now... Hell this isn't even like Allen and Garnett coming together with Pierce... Seattle was obviously rebuilding (and even lost that franchise) not like Bosh leaving the Raps or LeBron leaving our underachieving team in 2010---and it's not even like Love getting dealt with LeBron and Kyrie (Minny was looking to retool)--- OKC was gearing up for a championship run and making moves to sustain it going forward...

Honestly any team of the 3 (if healthy) between the Cavs/Thunder/Warriors could have been 2016 champs or future champs going forward--- Durant leaving completely collapses a franchise and a title contender-- not good for the league at all...

The Thunder will easily become what we were without LBJ once the domino effect takes place with Russell--- just another Bucks/Sixers- like franchise in the southwest part of the country.....

It's not good for the NBA at all....

For as good as the NBA was in the 80's look at that west in the 90's YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT

Lakers made a finals appearance
Blazers won around 60 games and made 2 finals appearances
Rockets won 2 titles
Suns won 60 games and made a finals appearance
Sonics won 60 games a few times and made a finals appearance
Spurs won 60 games and were good with Robinson and Rodman and Elliott and won a title in the late 90's with Duncan
Jazz made 2 finals appearances as well

There were all stars a plenty and they lead their teams to great heights.... Yea Jordan did kill most of their dreams but still great talent spaced throughout and HOPE....

Even in the east there was slight hope
Pistons got a title
Bulls yea
Knicks gave them a run with MJ, had their chance without MJ and even made it back against the Spurs
Pacers grew into contenders (forced the Bulls into a game 7 and gave the Magic and Knicks a run)
Magic made appearance and were young upstarts much like the Thunder years ago
Heat even had a small chance with Zo and Tim

Granted the East wasn't as competitive as the west, point being there was great competition and (especially in the west) there was hope for many teams....

I agree. Just look at NBA JAM. At least two studs on every team!

Rumors staring to appear of Boston being interested in trading for Westbrook.. wonder what they'd have to give up and how much of a threat they'd then become to us in the East. Boston/Cleveland rivalry would be reignited I'm afraid..

Can't see Russell staying there and the Celtics losing key pieces perhaps ?

Here's my new article about why we're going to be lucky to watch Westbrook lead a team - no matter what team that is - this season.

http://sportsbystats.com/2016/07/17/why-its-time-for-a-russ-centric-team/

Some quotes:

"What Figure 1 shows, consequently, is that Russell Westbrook’s 2015-16 season – when adjusted for possessions played per game – is actually more impressive than Oscar Robertson’s 1961-62 “triple-double” season."

"Put simply, there have only been eight players in NBA history to average over twenty minutes per game, a usage percentage – or the amount of plays that are run through/via a specific player – over 35%, and a Player Efficiency Rating (PER) over twenty-five (or the amount of efficiency required to be “elite”). Out of those eight players, Russ has the highest Box Plus-Minus (BPM)"

Well, if tonight's exhibition game is any indication, KD's going to be shooting 65% from three with Golden State.
