Time for a Rudy Gay safari?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You lost me at starting Gay at the 2 or removing Thompson from the lineup. Those just aren't good ideas. Nothing wrong with the rest, but either of those two options make zero sense.

So do you bring Gay off the bench? That doesn't make sense either.

Thompson is a beast when he comes off the bench - especially when he has fresh legs against tired defenses in the 4th quarter.

JR Smith was formerly 6th man of the year.

Is something happening? ..checking thread... omgomgomg..

EDIT: Nothing's happening...

To the conversation here though:

You would start Rudy Gay simply because he's in a contract year. He'd be best coming off the bench in my opinion; but starting and finishing games is important so he's be our Iguodala yet he'd be in the starting lineup.

My guess is that our rotation would look something like:

Irving/Gay/James/Love/Thompson

I could see us closing out games with Love at the 5 and Thompson on the bench though:

Irving/Korver(Smith)/Gay/James/Love

Gay at the 2 isn't the worst thing in the world, particularly with guys like Klay and DeRozan at the SG spot who aren't going to be necessarily killing Rudy with their first step.

Yea, someone said GSW is going after Gay.....

If they can make a trade work with Iguodala then I suppose, but, if Iguodala for Gay works then surely Shumpert for Gay is a better trade. Iguodala is an expiring contract, has obviously dropped off several levels, and is likely nearing his last contract in the league.

Other than that, what assets could they possibly have? Their cupboard is just as bare as ours if not more so. What're they going to do, trade David West, Zaza Pachulia, and Iggy and play Green full-time at the 5?

Just don't get how they get a deal done, and if nothing but expiring contracts is all it takes to get Rudy Gay then we've got a better deal in Shumpert by himself.

Not sure why GS would want him. If they don't believe in Iggy then Sac sure as hell wouldn't want him. Their remaining assets are poop.

They don't have matching salaries to make it work either given Sac would have no interest in Iggy IMO.

Just don't see how sacrificing the shooting at the two spot makes sense to accommodate Gay. You can get away with Liggins in the interim at the two because he has no issues being a defensive stopper and that's it. Gay's going to accept that role? Does he even fit that role?

But let's be honest... you don't win a 7 game series in the finals with liggins as your starter. Too much of a non-factor offensively.

You don't see why GS would want him? That's like saying you wouldn't want your 18 year old hot neighbor to invite you over when her parents go out of town.

From the rest of the paragraph, I think he meant "not sure how GS could get him" --- but not sure.

They got plenty of wing players in Iggy, Klay, Durant.

Where would he fit? I mean, Iggy would have to be included. Is he an upgrade over Iggy? Offensively, sure, but defensively, I'm not sure at all unless Iggy is just not healthy.

Iggy matches up really good against LeBron. Unless they feel Iggy is not the same, then I'm not really sure the pressing need for him if I'm GS.

And if they were willing to trade Iggy for Gay, then maybe we as Cav fans should be cheering for that. Because Rudy Gay won't defend LeBron better than Iggy has.

For the record, say GS does trade Iggy to Sac along with some prospect/draft pick for Rudy Gay.

Iggy would almost 100 percent likely get bought out. Then, turn around and sign with the Cavaliers?

Hmmm. A lot flip sides to look at it if they were to get Rudy Gay.

I don't think Iggy for Gay makes sense because Iguodala is not a trade asset for Sacramento.

Why do the Kings want Andre Iguodala on the last year of his deal? Is this just to help Golden State?

Moreover, do the Warriors pay Durant, Steph and Rudy Gay this offseason? For real? That'd put them at the very top of the payroll in the league would it not?

We know Dan Gilbert doesn't mind having the most expensive team in the league, but is the same true for Joe Lacob and the ownership group of the Warriors? Remember when everyone said Micky Arison had ends for days (which he does)... and that money was no object? Money was what lead Arison to reign in LeBron's friends getting contracts which was one of many reasons LeBron and Riley began to fall out. Money is why Wade is posted up on the Bulls right now losing games instead of retiring on the Heat where he belongs.

Honestly, I think this talk of Golden State getting Rudy Gay makes no sense from any aspect of the trade.

1) They're having enough problems integrating Durant's isolation plays. They're not an isolation team. Curry, Green and Klay are all system players. Iguodala has become a system player in his older age. Durant is NOT a system player; and neither is Rudy Gay. Those guys are old-school ballers that just wanna slash to the rim - for better or worse, efficiency be damned (in Rudy's case at least).

2) Golden State have very few real assets to trade.

Realistically, the only "asset" they have outside of their core 4 players, all of whom are indispensable, is Shaun Livingston. They going to trade Shaun Livingston? He's a free agent next season, and one would think the Warriors would use their MLE to re-sign him given how vital he is to their team. Livingston literally won them Game 1 of the previous Finals by himself, and without him, I think they lose both times around.

David West, Patrick McCaw, Zaza Pachulia, Damian Jones, Anderson Varejao, James McAdoo, Ian Clar, and Shaqtin' A Fool MVP JAVALE MCGEE (!) are not trade assets. They provide zero value to the Kings that the Kings could not simply get in free agency this summer for the vet min.

Andre Iguodala is rapidly approaching that list of players were he's a very useful specialist for Golden State, being a great passer, and solid defender, and someone who can play the 1-5.

But only a very few teams in the league need a player like that, and for those that don't, he has literally no value whatsoever given his age and contract and the fact that he'll leave either in a buyout or in the off-season.

Again.. I call bullshit on GSW making noise about a trade. I think they're trying to hype up the media so that their players can think more help is coming to stop the Cavaliers. Some "strength in numbers" shit...

Guys it kinda makes sense for GS they can get even more Gay. If they traded for Gay they would be flaming in gayness everywhere. Yeah fuck that that though we want a little Gay here in Cleveland is that so much to ask?

GS getting gay would be another win for us. Iggy is one of the few guys who can slow down lebron. He was a demon on defense in the finals before he got hurt.

They would be trading offense for defense there. However again the Warriors have nothing to offer them. The Warriors are in this position like the Cavs were when GS got Durant. They have no proven young talent right now worth trading for. I would offer Shump and MCrea for Gay... Anyways our team still has the fire power to get him. The way this team got Korver saved us money and created a new TPE as word has it. This front office outdid them selfs again. GS just threw everything they had into KD and need the money to keep their own players.
