Love had a great night scoring the ball, seems to have his 3 ball back in shape after an erratic start to the season, but I wonder if the hip is still bothering him. Poor night defensively, much less physical than he has been in some of these recent challenges against the big guys.
He got into bullshit foul trouble early because of the blind refs. He was much more tentative defensively after because of it.

Could be that, might also be a vet looking to protect his body during the grind of the season. Not the finest exponent of the defensive arts at the best of times to be honest.

I really like the way Kevin has played this year. I haven't looked at any advanced stats, but his defense just looks better, hes aggressive as hell confident , and it seems like him and Lebron have a new level of chemistry this year.

When we talk about Love I really don't care about how many points he scores but just about his defense...and I don't see improvements. If he plays like this he will suffer again against GS (and not just against them). We had a first taste against Indiana, Green played almost for the whole 4th quarter with Love sitting because of his bad defense. Especially with the return of IT we can't afford that...we need a big step from him in the next few months.

Prepare to be disappointed.

There is no “stepping up” on the defensive end for Kevin Love. He can’t make his arms longer. He can’t make his feet quicker, he can’t make his vertical leap higher.

What he is right now, is what he is period. He’s 29 years old. There is no magic switch for him to flip in the finals to become a good defender. Effort has nothing to do with it. He’s limited athletically on that end and always will be.

What he can/must do in the finals to give the Cavs a chance is give his A+ effort on the things he IS good at. He’s gotta make threes, draw free throws and rebound the hell out of the ball on the defensive glass.

Expecting some sort of rapid improvement on D isn’t realistic because it isn’t happening.

I think playing more 5 and less 4 will help. He’ll have an entire season of playing the 5 and learning it on the defense end as oppose to going into last year cold with barely any 5 experience. So there could be slight improvement just based on more experience playing the position.

If I were Lue I would think something different for the finals to let Love making the difference...like starting him off the bench with the 2 unit, with Crowder starter.

Love is having his best season with us and is playing like a top 15/20 player this year, and we want to replace him with a defensive specialist? I don't think you understand how much Love brings to this team on offense, his ability to stretch the floor and make another team game plan for him make him so valuable. We have been playing like a top 10/11 defense over the last 16 games, with the 2nd best offense.

Love has improve by leaps and bounds on the defensive side. You have to understand that he will never be as good as Green, or other topdefenders because of physical limitations not lack of defensive knowledge or effort.

Guys I'm not saying that Love is trash. I like him and he is having a great season, like he had the last year...but the last two finals told us that he suffers against GS because of his defense. I think that this is a fact. I perfectly know that he is what he is and for sure he is not Green, I'm not saying that he doesn't give the maximum or that he can't play...just we can't afford him playing 30-35 minutes against GS with that defense...and this year should be even worse because of IT. For this reason I wrote about a Love off the bench who could balance the starting five...maybe not the best of the ideas but imho, especially with the full roster available, we'll have to change something.

Love is having his most efficient season ever on the offensive end, approaching 50-40-90 shooting (though not quite there) and a legit 20/10 guy (his true shooting percentage is at 62%, he's never hit 60% before).

He is moving his feet better than ever before on defense too. Still can't do much about lack of length & leaping, but you can see the effort.

Love quietly posting his second straight all-star season. He should be a lock to make the ASG this year.

Hopefully he can actually play in it this year. I know he was disappointed about having to miss it last year because finally making it after a two-year hiatus was important to him.

Really feel like Love has been having his best year here so far...he’s been scoring from all over the floor the last month or so instead of just shooting threes and free throws. His hook shot has been money and he’s been creating a lot of offense that didn’t exist before. More elbow touches, using his face up game more effectively from all over, just being an all-star man.

Took Kev for granted so long because he was always willing to sacrifice but he’s always been a star for us no matter what his role is and he’ll probably take another slight step back to let IT do his thing and you won’t hear a single thing about it from Love besides being a total pro.

Love deserves far more credit for his loyalty, professionalism, and consistency.
