#126 - Howard Wilson, CB, Houston

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What's with the Tarzan/Jane phenomenon I'm seeing lately? Who originally said this that it's now proliferating amateur internet scouting?

My old man has been using that troupe talking football as long as I can remember. I think he described former Browns bust Mike Junkin with the old Tarzan/Jane zinger.

I think it has something to do with Bruce Jenner.

I just looked it up.

Joel Buchsbaum, a Pro Football Weekly writer who was one of the key analysts in hyping the draft into a national football holiday, coined the phrase at some point.

I've just seen you and @CBBI use it twice in a two day period and remember articles recently too.

Fags.

I remember someone saying it about Courtney Brown... Might have even been Warren Sapp...

Smart move for him signing that contract early...

That is a good diagnosis, but it is still likely he starts the season on the PUP list, but injuries happen and its still possible to see him this season

That's great news -- not only for this season but for next. A really bad break may have been something that never got quite right again.

Howard Wilson hints at return to football activities

Houston cornerback Howard Wilson (6-foot-1, 184) was taken in the fourth round, No. 120 overall, by the Cleveland Browns. He suffered a fractured patella during his first week of practice with the organization. He was later added to the injured reserve.

“It's disappointing but this a part of playing football. It was kind of a freak thing. I was just running around and my knee just kind of locked up on me. I didn't think much of it but the training staff wanted to get the proper testing so I got the MRI. I'm a positive person so I will have the surgery, work hard in my rehab and look forward to getting back to out there and helping this team win some games," Wilson said at the time of injury in May.

Wilson may be back out there soon. Sunday, on Twitter, he hinted that his return is imminent. "Uh oh that man is back," he said.

Cleveland begins the first phase of their off-season program Monday. Players return to Berea to get some work in before the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Texas native recorded 54 tackles, five interceptions and a touchdown during his final season with the Cougars. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.57 second 40-yard dash. He also had a 33.5 inch vertical jump and a 119 inch broad jump. He was a top performer in the three cone drill (6.68 seconds) and the 20-yard shuttle (3.94 seconds).

He was graded as a fifth or sixth round selection by NFL.com's Lance Zierlein. His 5.48 grade equates to a backup and special teamer.

"Smooth athlete with excellent length who has a long history of making plays on the football. Wilson is fast and fluid and he's willing to do his part as a tackler, but he needs more muscle and more experience before he's ready to handle some of the physical receivers he will see in the league. Wilson's size, speed and ball skills will be coveted traits and they give him a chance to become a good NFL starter with time," NFL Network's Lance Zierlein said.

General Manager John Dorsey has been active in making changes to the cornerback position this off-season. Veteran Jason McCourty was traded to the New England Patriots. Terrance Mitchell, EJ Gaines and TJ Carrie were signed in free agency. Briean Boddy-Calhoun, Mike Jordan and Jamar Taylor are also returning to the roster from last year's team. Cleveland is also expected to address the position in the 2018 NFL Draft, which takes place from Apr. 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Given that he's coming off a major injury, isn't even doing full football activities and wasn't brought in by this regime, I'm not sure I like the odds.
