Yep, I figure TT feels like he is outside in a rainstorm while everybody is partying inside. The Cavs took Bennett instead of Victor because they liked Dion better than him.

Probably not that black and white. If they wanted 3 scorers on the team VO was not gonna be one of them.

good point on that one. It was probably Bennett,Len and Porter, in that order. Still gotta be hard on TT.

Why? Why do people think that taking Bennett means that Tristan is instantly useless on the team and is going to be riding pine now? Why do people think it's an indictment that he isn't good or was a wasted pick? Bennett wasn't picked because we want him to replace Tristan or send Tristan to the bench, he was picked because CG and company thought he was the best player. Guarantee Tristan knows this. He also seems to be the kind of guy who would not mind it at all if he came off the bench for 25-30 minutes a night down the road, if he ends up on the bench that is.

I think the cavs see him as a person who can not only be an immediate contributor but also as an excellent trade chip if ever they are involved in a blockbuster deal for a superstar.

You're being very naive.

TT was much improved in the second half of last season and probably was looking at this year to be his breakout year.

He is a good guy, but he is also going to want to get paid and be a long term starter somewhere. If the writing is on the wall that he won't be a starter here long term, he is not going to stick around and sign a below market deal to be a bench player on this team. He will move on to somewhere he has a chance to start.

It is the same thing with Bennett. He was the #1 pick in the draft, and is not going to be content to come off the bench forever, particularly not if he is more effective than the guy starting in front of him.

TT is not some late first round pick just hoping to hang on as a bench player for a $4-5 million extension after his rookie deal. He would probably tell you that himself. I am positive he thinks he can be someone's long term starter at PF, and he is not going to stay here to be a bench player long term.

He will do it and be a happy warrior while he is on the squad without making any waves, but he is not going to re-sign here to be Bennett's back up in a few years when he is up for an extension.

Tristan is up for an extension in 2 years, I believe we have until then to decide how these guys are gonna play with each other.

I mean is there honestly anything wrong with Bennett at the 4, a tall defensive C, and Tristan backing them both up at about 25 minutes a game? If he accepted that role, that would be perfect.

Is he good enough to start? Hell yes. Tristan is a nice player, but having 2 nice young bigs who compliment each other well isn't exactly a bad thing

Now when TT and Bennett are both hitting their primes, one is probably gonna have to go, but I say worry about that when that time comes.

Yup, because you know him personally. If there is one poster I refuse to listen to on this board, it's you. Your negativity in literally every post you make is old and stale.

With Bennett's range and ability to face up and get to the rim he could definitely play the 3 on the offensive end. Defensively is where he may have some trouble staying with some SF's but other than Paul George, Lebron, Durant who in the East couldn't he defend? I mean Metta World Peace is stiff and slow yet he still plays the 3, Bennett at 20 yrs old, athletic as hell and strong should be able with the right match ups play the 3, space the floor and allow TT to be down in the paint...

let me get this straight your argument comes down to this. TT is going to get benched because bennett was taken at number 1 and TT was only taken at 4

Well, I did just witness Boris Diaw of all people play pretty damn good defense on LBJ in the Finals. Sky's the limit for the guy on defense based on his athletic attributes, he just has to put the work in.

Chicago has a notoriously cheap owner and is paying Taj Gibson $8 million/year to come off the bench. They also have big money tied up in Boozer, Noah, Deng and Rose.

We gave Varejao a similar deal back when he was our 6th man.

I don't see why we wouldn't have the funds to retain Thompson. Also, Bennett will still be on his rookie deal for 2 years after we would hypothetically extend Tristan.

Bennett is a better player, that is why he is going to be benched after probably this year.

I suspect it will be clear as day by about game 30 that Bennett should be starting, maybe sooner depending on how quickly he gets back from injury.

Yeah watching the draft express video of Bennett, he shows all kinds of skills. If Mike Brown and the coaching staff get him AND Dion to buy in to the defensive end this team is gonna be pretty good!

Boozer and Deng are likely gone after this year for them because of the financial situation in Chicago in favor of cheaper options.

We have Kyrie as a max, Dion looking like every bit the $10+ million kind of guy, Bennett I think will be a stud so he is going to have to get paid down the line. Throw in another high priced guy to play SF through FA or trade and we aren't going to have 8-10 million to pay TT to be a bench player without being totally tapped out and only able to add veterans minimum types.

I didn't even address the center spot and we would be totally up against it salary wise. The new CBA makes it damn near impossible to keep a well drafted team together for the long term.

Why are we going to need a high-priced SF? All we need is a low usage guy at that spot now that we have 3 scorers in the fold.

You can pay Tristan and then still have two years left before you have to pay Bennett.

There's going to be a new CBA pretty soon. I think there's a pretty good chance that we'll end up with a more player friendly system this time around.
