2014 Fantasy Football - who are you buying or selling, value picks, sleepers?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cam Newton (Car - QB)- Round 1
Demaryius Thomas (Den - WR)- Round 2
Danny Amendola (NE - WR)- Round 3
Calvin Johnson (Det - WR)- Round 1
LeSean McCoy (Phi - RB)- Round 1
Shane Vereen (NE - RB)- Round 6
Jason Witten (Dal - TE)- Round 5
Alfred Morris (Was - RB)- Round 1
Kirk Cousins (Was - QB)
Joique Bell (Det - RB)- Round 15
Bobby Rainey (TB - RB)
Jordan Reed (Was - TE)
Cordarrelle Patterson (Min - WR)- Round 8
Zach Ertz (Phi - TE)

So my money league I've played in since 2005 switched to having an option for keepers this year. You can keep up to 3 players, but it will cost you the pick 1 round ahead of where they were drafted last year. The round beside their name is updated to what they would cost to keep.

Above is my team. Anyone who wasn't drafted will cost a 16th round pick to keep. It's a 12 team league, 1 PPR.

I've never done keepers before, so I wonder what you guys think of my strategy.

At this point, I'm planning on keeping McCoy (1st), Demaryius (2nd), and Joique Bell (15th) because of the value hebrings for such a late pick. I figure even though I won't have a pick until the 3rd round, a 1-2 of McCoy and Demaryius is a good guaranteed starting point.

Thoughts?

Unless you plan on going after Gronk/Thomas, I would keep Reed. Reed is going to be a quality tight end. He's probably the 5th best tight end after Graham, Gronk, Thomas, and Cameron, yet you can get him for 16th round value. That's a lot better to me than keeping a backup RB from the late round. There will always be running backs of Bell's caliber that emerge throughout the season. I don't see a reason to keep him. I would definitely keep Demaryius. The other keeper for me depends on your drafting philosophy. I would consider Calvin but probably cave and go with McCoy too since the quality of RBs after the top 5 greatly diminishes. If you kept Calvin and Demaryius, your RBs would be a crapshoot every week. McCoy, Demaryius, and Reed for me. My reason for Reed is I'm trying to maximize value. He's going to go way earlier than 16th round in a 12 team league.

Do you know your draft slot? Don't keep a guy you can get anyway at that slot.

Bell over Vereen. Vereen is probably going around the 6th and so is Bell, so getting Bell is obviously a better value.

Thanks, yeah we re basing it off last year, so I will be picking 9th out of 12.

I would love it if this was my team after my draft.

Great value in the later rounds picking up Foster and Richardson. Both are buy low guys who have the upside and potential to become explosive fantasy backs. If healthy, Foster is a steal in round 5, and I expect T-Rich to at least get the goal line touches, especially with the injuries the Colts have had at running back.

Overall, I give you an A. I can't find much of anything wrong outside of your 2nd running back being somewhat of a gamble, but again, the value was great and the potential is there.

Its not possible to keep Calvin Johnson, McCoy, and Demaryius? If so, that would be the three I would maintain. You would get one of the best backs and two of the top 5 fantasy wide outs in the game. Definitely a hard team to beat week to week.

No, I can't keep all three. McCoy and Megatron both cost a first rounder to keep, so I have to decide between them.

I mentioned this in the rate my team thread, but my roster in my ten team PPR auction draft as it currently stands is:

QB Matt Ryan
RB Jamaal Charles
RB Le'Veon Bell
WR Calvin Johnson
WR Jordy Nelson
TE Charles Clay
FL Julio Jones
K Adam Vinatieri
DE Saints
BE Tony Romo
BE Cordarrelle Patterson
BE DeAndre Hopkins
BE Khiry Robinson
BE Jeremy Hill
BE Mark Ingram
BE Knile Davis

Obviously my weak point could be at RB, as all my back-ups are unproven or not necessarily starters. Should I role into week one as-is or try to trade one of my WRs for another starter-caliber back? Obviously I'm flush at WR. Alternatively, I could wait it out a few weeks and hope that one of my bench WRs (or RBs) starts having a breakout year, which increases my leverage in trades. Of course, then I'm playing Russian roulette and hoping neither of my starting backs gets hurt.

Any suggestions on guys I should target or some trade ideas?

Also, week nine is going to be a bitch. Like half my team is on a bye. :chuckle:
