2014 NFL Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching a lot of Big Ten football, I don't understand how the Browns don't pick Chris Borland over Kirksey.

You should watch closer then. Borland is the type of LB the Browns are trying to get rid of.

Borland is only good at or near the LOS, Kirksey thrives in space. Pretty simple, really. Hate how people act like Borland was some can't miss prospect because he played a role tailored to him in that defense and put up some artificial stats.

I'm assuming we drafted him over Borland because of Kirksey's athleticism and ability to step back and cover TEs. TEs are becoming increasingly athletic so having a LB/S hybrid that can drop back and cover those guys is a godsend. Borland is too slow and short to guard the bigger TEs.

This thread- like all draft threads- is a great read a couple years later. It's aged really well with Manziel out of the league having been a complete out of control fucking trainwreck, Gilbert just about out of the league and being a more slow motion car crash and Desir no longer with the team.

Bitonio and Kirksey are actually both very good players, so the draft did work out in rds 2 and 3, but otherwise the Browns did historically bad with Gilbert and Manziel.

Rather than call posters out by name, I encourage you to look through the thread yourselves. Lot of predictions of future success for the Browns and confidence in the then current regime. Great stuff!

Hint: almost none of us were happy with Manziel!!!

I feel like you need to be quiet about our love for Manziel because he has the "it" factor.

I call it the Shhh-"it" factor.

Page 1 and I already nailed it, lol

If Gordon screws up a drug test, this is the time of year it would most likely happen... back home with his old crew, getting into old habits.

Thought it is funny, 3 years later and some things never change.

The hilarity of trading a massive amount of picks, depleting your stock in one of the deepest drafts in years would be a move all too typical of the Browns these last 15 years.

Would be a shocking amount of stupid, IMO.

Found this interesting, old regime did stupid things like trade up. Looks like 3 years later and AZ still believes in collecting picks.

Just looking at positives, not going to call anyone out for being wrong, i am sure we are all wrong in hindsight.

Luckily I have a lot of free time this weekend. Perhaps I'll walk down memory lane. I may end up with an annyerism by Sunday.

I dont want to look, because I remember that I thought Manziel was a good risk and I liked Gilbert.

Its ok, ya'll can shit on me.

I remember this draft well. I wanted Mack or Bortles at the top and the best cornerback available with the second 1st round pick. I was also a huge Kelvin Benjamin supporter at the end of the 1st to early 2nd because obviously the great Brian Hoyer was only an outside receiver away from being a top 20 quarterback, bridging to a rookie eventually. I had spent a few months pounding the "Anyone But Manziel" mantra with B00bie and Phills.

Not totally right, but not totally wrong either.

Someone nailed it. Maybe not so much on Evans, but the rest...

Richardson and Beckham are two of many really intriguing secondary weapons at the WR position available in this draft.

Jordan Matthews - Vandy
Brandin Cooks - Ore. St.

All four of those guys are interesting looks for a team needing a second WR.

People are all over Sammy Watkins with good reason, but in terms of value I'm taking Marqise Lee, Odell Beckham and Jordan Matthews.

Fast forward five years and I'd be willing to be all three are having productive NFL careers which rival Watkins.

Not a fan of Benjamin or Evans. I think they'll make good weapons, but they're limited by a lack of quickness the other guys have.

And then even more guys jumped in. Landry and Robinson came up here.

I mean Farmer LITERALLY could have just sat on the message board here to get a receiver...
There are so many great options at WR in this draft it isn't funny. I like Matthews, Beckham, Landry and Robinson and those aren't even the top guys; Watkins, Lee and Evans all will go in front of them. We can definitely grab a high quality WR with the 2nd 1st rounder or top of the 2nd. If someone like CJ Mosley presents themselves with the 26th pick, you have to take him and get your WR in the 2nd round. Just take the best player available at 26, if it's a WR, great, if not we can always use dynamic playmakers throughout the lineup.
I think Beckham and Matthews have star talent. I'd take each of them in the teens, but I may value them more than most. Beckham is almost the complete package minus being 6'3: hands, speed, route running etc. I think there's a lengthy and productive career looming. I see some Reggie Wayne with this cat in the sense that he could be a beacon of consistency.

I think he's actually a steal at 26.

Also, I'd really like to snag a second "pAss-catching" tight end for the expansion of the offense.

Given the talent level at WR in this draft, I'll be VERY disappointed if we don't end up with at least one in the first two rounds,, and possibly two in the first three. I'm as high as Odell Beckham Jr. as anyone. The one big knock on him is that he doesn't have tremendous size, but he plays so much bigger than his size with the way he can elevate to snag balls in the air. I wouldn't be disappointed with Landry as well, since he and Beckham share a lot of the same strengths. He's not as fast or quick as Beckham is, but he's probably got the best hands in this entire class and also has insane body control adjusting to throws.
