2015-2016 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
$15 million isn't what it used to be. The kind of guys that got $10M deals before will be getting $15M now. Which is why we paid TT what he got. Biyombo is definitely in the $15+ range.

I heard he was shot to death...RIP.

New Orleans Pelicans Wing Bryce Dejean-Jones Has Died

BY: JACK WINTER 05.28.16
Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune, New Orleans Pelicans wingBryce Dejean-Jones has died at the age of 23.

Former Iowa State men’s basketball player and current New Orleans Pelican Bryce Dejean-Jones has died, the Dallas (Texas) County coroner’s office confirmed to the Ames Tribune on Saturday.

The coroner’s office is currently unable to provide a cause of death.

DeJean-Jones, who played on multiple 10-day contracts for the injury-plagued Pelicans this season, signed a non-guaranteed three-year deal with the team in February. He appeared in 14 games for New Orleans in 2015-16, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his relentless two-way hustle and aggressive brand of individual defense.

The Los Angeles product went undrafted last June after one season at Iowa State. He initially attended USC before transferring to UNLV for two seasons.

Our thoughts are with Dejean-Jones’ family and friends during this difficult time.

Holy shit. Was one of the better D-League callups this year. It's a shame.

Yea, I think people are under estimating how much the cap will jump. And bigs always have a lot of value in this league and are typically overpaid anyway.

I may not have liked Biyombo's antics against us, but I'm rooting for him to get paid big this summer. His story about how he came from Africa, dirt poor, his brothers and sisters went to bed without food many nights, they didn't have shoes for school, etc. And he already gives back a ton to Africa every year. It's a huge success story and he deserves every penny he gets.

I am sick about BDJ. Dude had massive issues in college and bounced around between 3 schools but turned it around and parlayed several 10 days into a 3 year deal this year. Got shot in the gut and bled out.

RIP

From the Dallas Morning News, Dejean-Jones was shot by a man in an apartment where he kicked in the front door at 3:20 a.m.:

The commotion startled the man sleeping inside, who police say grabbed his handgun and “called out,” but got no answer. Police say Dejean-Jones then kicked the door to the bedroom — and the man fired.

Man thats fucked up...
That Kid was only 23... no matter what happened... 23... holy shit..

puts everything back into perspective a little bit...

RIP

He kicked a strangers door down at 3:30 AM, wouldn't listen to the homeowner telling him to stop, then tried to break into the bedroom...homeowner was totally justified in shooting him. A shame because of whatever led him to such idiotic behavior in the first place, but the shooting itself was a natural consequence of his actions.

Biyombo loooks like a nice piece, but those contract numbers are laughable. If you are throwing him 15+ mil to be a foundational piece, you immediately messed up your future. Thompson got paid for a relatively similar skillset, but we already had a championship caliber core in place and weren't going to be able to replace that production by other means.

That would be a huge gamble on him being an elite defender and rebounder while also becoming an offensive threat. In a league becoming increasingly perimeter oriented, I'm not sure how valuable having a defensive only big is. I certainly don't think it's 15 million or more.

He's just asking for what TT got. If it's stupid to pay Biyombo that then it was equally stupid for us to pay TT that. Saying that we were capped out is not an excuse -- we bid against ourselves on that contract, we didn't wait for any external offer to establish his market.

Looks like he mistakenly was on the wrong floor.

Aside from that I still don't think that killing him is a natural consequence of his actions. You could punch him in the mouth or shoot him in the leg or something and figure out what he's doing when he's on the ground instead of point blank killing him.

If someone kicked your front door in at 3:20 AM and then started kicking at your bedroom door while ignoring your pleas for identification, would you really get up [and in the dark most likely..] and confront the intruder with your fist?

Especially when it was a 6'6" professional athlete in peak condition? What would your chances be of 'punching him in the mouth' and surviving it?

Apparently it was the wrong door, but if he had found the right door he would have been kicking down his ex-wife's door at 3:30 AM. Also a bad idea!

He yelled out after hearing his door get kicked in at 3:30am and Dejean-Jones didn't answer. Then he shot through a door and hit him in the stomach.

Should he have offered to microwave him some Totino's Pizza Rolls first?
