2016 Draft: Top Prospects

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
DRAFT DAY!

Wait... Hold on, I'm so used to saying that, that I almost forgot that we sacrificed all of our 2016 draft picks and just won an NBA championship instead :)

I think the Cavs buy their way into the draft 100%.

I agree. The question is if they buy/trade for a pick from 20-26 or if they just buy a 2nd rounder.

Either way, I see them getting in this draft tonight. 100%. A whole draft where you add nothing, not even a 2nd round stash asset--won't happen on Griff's watch.

Question is how much time/effort the Cavs have dedicated to scouting this draft class? I would doubt they actually worked out any individual players given the focus on the playoffs. I'm sure they have player personnel guys that have put time into it, but given our parade was yesterday I'm not sure how much confidence I have in our due diligence on anyone we pay or trade to draft.

Flip side is that we have probably at least 3 open roster spots (Moz/McCray/Dahntay Jones) and a number of guys that could/should be back but all of them likely won't be (JR/Delly/RJ/James Jones) and a wasted roster spot (Kahn). We will be active pursuing vets but we are going to need to fill out a 15 man roster somehow. Tough to do without at least a couple rookies this year.

I think this front office likes McRae, and it's reasonable to consider that Moz may be retained on the cheap.

Also, Cavs have been quietly bringing in sleepers. Guys in that 2nd-round range.

I would love to see Damian Jones in a Cavs uniform -- big physical player who would give us the ability to make some offensive mismatches that we can't make right now -- and is a good Mozgov replacement down the line. I've seen him from 24-30 in most mocks, so he might be buyable.
