2016 NBA Playoffs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Umm but what about his pops? I just mean those who subscribe to karma would have to include non basketball related events. Maybe Draymond has had a lor of birds shit on him as he leaves the car or maybe his breakfast is soggy. It all adds up u know

I don't think that was Karma, I think it was the Mob collecting on Jordan's debts

DING DING DING. Worst kept secret in the world, yet no one seems to recognize it.

Fucking MJ was in serious gambling debt. He left the NBA so they could take care of it. He fucking thanked Stern for letting him come back. Should've been all anyone needed to know.

He didn't retire to play baseball. He was forced out until the mob was paid off.

Ive heard this theory but have never fully understood it. By sitting out, he does what for the mob? I would have to think that MJ could bet on himself and have them collect his debt much faster.

Can't ruin the sport with point shaving if you can't play in the games

Haven't heard anything about point shaving, but what I have read regarding that theory is it was out of fear of a public relations nightmare. If your Stern, and your sports cash cow has a serious gambling problem and is deep in the hole with the wrong people, wouldn't YOU want him to lay low for a bit?

The only thing that doesn't make sense is the whole baseball thing because that's not exactly laying low.

Had to keep the brand going somehow. You know your cash cow can't end so abruptly. It was a convenient way for Reinsdorf to keep paying him that didn't raise too much suspicion.

There's part of me that's always wondered if there wasn't some deal worked out to let the mob influence games through reffing to wipe out Jordan's debt.

He'd have to be DEEP in the hole, I would think, for something like that to happen. The guy is richer than God.

This is before Jordan brand etc. While he was still only making 2-3 million a year on his contract.

Makes me wonder if the mob didn't start handling his finances afterwards that allowed him to build the business he did.

This.

I read the book about the NBA reffing scandal--since 2010 I've never really trusted the NBA even as the Cavs got good again in '14-16.

People seriously believe the Jordan gambling debt thing? Sure he was and is a serial gambler but to me that seems much more far-fetched than the fact that his father, who was a huge baseball fan and wanted MJ to play baseball, was murdered and a replica championship ring was stolen from his dying hands. That seems traumatic enough of an event to get MJ playing baseball.
