2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fuck, not the Red Sox. Anywhere but there or the Yankees. Please.

Lol just a bunch if smoke screens he is resigning here- players hit FA all the time only to resign for less with their original team after fielding offers.

Let's hope JD Martinez or Stanton goes to Boston which would take them out of the running for Los, and I have to imagine he's not their number one target. If we lose a bidding war for Santana to the fucking Mariners, then shame on us, I suppose.

Well the question is how many years are we willing to give Santana?

I mean, were people expecting teams to not be interested in signing Santana? That's literally all the reports are.

If only other teams got their info on Santana from some of the members of this forum...we'd get him to re-up for 3 years, at $1.50 a year and some Barrio coupons.

Based on Ken Rosenthal's very latest, it appears as though the Tribe is operating under the assumption that Santana doesn't return. Also, according to him, the Tribe is seriously considering Kip in LF and Brantley at 1B, which I figured was a possibility based on Antonetti and Tito's postseason press conference. Rosenthal reported that Tribe officials don't want to breakup the Ramirez 2B/Lindor SS combination. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the opening day lineup:

Lindor-SS
Kipnis-LF
Brantley-1B
Encarnacion-DH
Ramirez-2B
Chisenhall-RF
Diaz-3B
Zimmer-CF
Perez-C

I figured if Santana left Chis or Brantley will be at first, moving kipnis to the OF. We will still try and find a RH bat that can play the OF.

When/if Santana leaves we will likely grab a RH OF in waivers/Rule 5 and sign veterans on minor league from that side of the plate as well.

Leaving us with a roster of:
C: Perez, Gomes
1st Base Chis/Brantley and EE
2nd Ramirez
SS Lindor
3B Diaz
Utility: Urshela/Gonzalez
OF: Kipnis, Brantley/Chis, Zimmer, Guyer Brought in OF

Aka which is why I feel we need to bring in a decent bat to replace Santana in a sense. But at the moment, that’s our current roster.

Looks like the White Sox are going to take calls on Abreu.

No idea what it would take to get him or if they’d consider trading him in the division but another potential 1B option on the market.

If nothing else, it may eliminate a team in the Santana sweeps (if they make a deal).

He has the right amount of team control, but he isnt what I would call a strong fielder at 1st and he is likely going to get North of 10 mil every single season he is in Arbitration, so he will have a bit of a price tag that way as well. Where to put him in the lineup is the question as well. If we make the move, I am okay with getting him, just $$$ would be the same as resigning Santana and he isn’t as strong of defender, plus walks a lot less and SOs more, but is a better contact hitter than Santana.

Carlos wants to stay - I believe if the Indians make a reasonable offer we will keep him.

“I love it here,” said Santana, acquired by the Indians from the Dodgers on on July 26, 2008. “This is my home. I love Cleveland. They gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues, to play every day.”

He calls Progressive Field, “My house. Everybody knows me and I know everybody here.”

But just how free agency unfolds for the Santana and the Indians is a mystery.

“This will be tough for me after the season, but I’m going to have to make a hard decision about my career,” said Santana. “I love it here. I don’t want to go anywhere. Everybody knows. My teammates know. The front office knows. But that’s not something I can control.”

They're gonna have to rip the jersey off his back!
