2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is such a simplistic way of looking at things that just makes 0 sense

They technically traded for Stanton. But it is their unlimited cashflow which allowed them to basically accept a salary dump from the Marlins. So saying they acquired Stanton "through a trade" is technically true but anyone who even has a semblance of understanding of the MLB would know how stupid that statement sounds. Marlins were living well beyond their means and the Yankees with their endless cashflow were there to capitalize.

Not to mention that bullshit they pulled with Chapman to basically lend him to the Cubs before just throwing money at him AND getting the prospects

If you think the Yankees are on a level playing field with their build then holy shit are you naive coach

My point was the Yankees built the 17 team mostly through trades and drafting not through just straight purse power. I feel we need some type of hard cap in baseball (offset by a minimum cap where all teams have the spend this amount and if they don't then the difference goes to the players on the roster evenly) but at the moment they don't and it will help ruin the game long term if they don't find a way to reel in how much teams are spending and spending.

The Indians still need to make a move or two this offseason to get their team right. I expect a RH OF added to the roster and other stuff like that. We have a bit of cash to spend, but not a lot (less than 10 mil probably on a free agent)

With the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers looking practically unbeatable, maybe the Indians should look to move Frankie and Kluber. Imagine the prospects the Indians can get.

I wonder if the Indians take a shot on Jose Bautista on a minor league deal. Seems like there was some interest last summer.

If he is available for that plus incentives then they would be stupid not to, but he truly wouldn't have a position here outside of platooning at first which in a way for the lineup is nice, but makes no sense in the field, having 3 guys limited to 1st base and DH.

So we can try and go on a run 8 years from now?

Please dear God not again. Someone with a legitimate fortune needs to buy this team.

In the unlikely event he is here, I imagine he'd still be playing RF vs. LHP. Guyer to LF to give Brantley more rest.

And DHing for EE on rest days

Bautista was amazingly bad last year.

-0.5 WAR, .295 wOBA

D-O-N-E.

He cannot play the OF anymore at the end of the day. I don't trust him playing anywhere on the field let alone in the OF.

His 2017 fielding numbers were better than Bruce's 2016 fielding numbers

I certainly don't expect his fielding numbers to get better, but I don't think he's unplayable in the field especially as a platoon player. Much better than playing him at 1B, which he's played extremely limited innings at. But his plate production has to be strong, which it probably wont be.

Bruce's numbers were good for the Mets, but not great for the Indians, but overall did better than Bautista

There is no doubt the Indians will be a worse team this year than the previous two years. I don’t know by how much, but we certainly will be worse.

Lineup will be worse, the starting staff actually may be better at the end of the day.

Also, I really hope we’re not relying on Brantley to be a major contributor this year. I have zero confidence he’ll be able to stay healthy all season.

Bullpen will likely be worse too, but I’ll hold off on declaring that definitively right now since bullpens are notoriously difficult to predict on a year to year basis...so we’ll call it 50/50.

Overall, it adds up to worse team.
