2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Okay, so I've thought about it some more, and I don't think this Tim Hardaway Jr. deal is that bad. He was an RFA, hence the overpay, but he has some really good attributes.

First off, THJ ranked #11 amongst shooting guards in ORPM and #59 in DRPM. Second, per Synergy, THJ ranks in the top 15% of spot-up shooters and top 35% in transition shooters of all NBA players.

I've always felt like he maxed out as, at best, a high-level role player. So I suppose if you are really high on him, and think he can create an inside-out game with Porzingis, then this contract really is not that bad.

Overpay? 100%. Worst contract? Not so sure about that.

Thoughts @ACisKING?

I agree it's not the worst contract given the current CBA...it's certainly not even the worst contract on the Knicks. But it is still an unnecessary signing in my opinion. What are we trying to build here such that we need to overspend for four years on a 3 and D guy? It's not like we are one piece away from relevance. Not to mention that the Knicks roster is loaded with other bloated contracts and this is antithetical to the Knicks stated offseason goal of preseving and creating additional cap space. And yea Tim Hardaway, Jr. is still relatively young and has some upside...but at best he projects to be a competent starter over the life of the contract.

That isn't even considering the fact that we drafted and traded Tim Hardaway, Jr. away to get the rights to Jerian Grant...who we then used to get Derrick Rose...who we have to renounce to overpay (to the tune of $71 million) Hardaway to come back to the Knicks via restricted free agency. I mean it's just a complete clown show.

Ok, so early predictions.

In the East:
1. Cleveland
2. Boston
3. Milwaukee
4. Washington
5. Toronto
6. Miami
7. Charlotte
8. Detroit

Honestly the last three spots could be about anyone. Philadelphia could get there if everything goes right. The Kincks could get there if the don't trade Anthony for turds.

West:
1. Golden State
2. Houston
3. San Antonio
4. Oklahoma City
5. Los Angeles Clippers
6. Minnesota
7. Portland
8. Utah

Gonna stick with Utah if they manage to get back Crowder in a sign and trade. That's still a really good defensive squad. But if not Utah, Denver. New Orleans better wake the hell up and put some halfway competent shooters on that roster. No sense in making that trade last year if they weren't willing to go spend big bucks to give themselves a chance to win.

My West as of right now looks a bit different than yours 5-8...

1. Golden State
2. San Antonio
3. Houston
4. Oklahoma City
5. Minnesota
6. Portland
7. Denver
8. Utah/Sacramento/Dallas

I'm a believer in the Clippers baby. Part of me thinks they may be a better regular season team with Beverley and Gallinari. Little more balance, hopefully play a little faster.

I'd go with Clippers over Portland / Denver / Utah. clippers will get around the 6th seed. still have blake DJ Beverley lou Williams gallinari and Miloš Teodosić

Celtics trading Avery Bradley to Detroit for Marcus Morris....

Fills the PF need Boston has, but they're losing a very good two-way player in Bradley.

I'm just not 100% convinced it's worth losing Avery Bradley and taking Jae Crowder off the court, for Gordon Hayward and Marcus Morris. Boston isn't done dealing, but I'd say Detroit gets the better end of this deal.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Caldwell-Pope now....

Boston starting line-up as of today:

IT
Jaylen Brown/Marcus Smart
Gordon Hayward
Marcus Morris
Horford

This isn't directed at just you, bill, but Jae Crowder is the most overrated player on this board. People are gonna be shocked at how much better Hayward is.

The loss of Bradley is more impactful, but Jae Crowder is also a very solid two way player and a better defender/rebounder than Hayward, IMO. Not to mention a 40% 3 pt shooter.... Hayward is a very good defender in his own right, but he has also benefited from what I consider the best rim protector in the game in Rudy Gobert. Crowder is rated as one of the best SF defenders in the game, with Al Horford behind him....which is basically paper-mache.

I love what Hayward brings to that squad offensively, but if it means you're losing Bradley and Crowder, it negates it for me. They needed to keep that core and add Hayward. Not add Hayward and then remove 2 of their best pieces from the rotation. It's turning into a net wash to me....

Bradley only has 1 year left in his deal, and the Celtics wouldn't have been able to re-sign him, since he'd probably command the max, or close to that.

Maybe, they could have gotten more for him, but it isn't that bad of a trade.

You think a 35-36 year old Zach Randolph, 39-40 Year old Vince Carter, and 31 (Admitted still probably in his prime) George Hill added to a group of youngsters + Temple and Koufos will get us to 8th Seed Contention? You have more confidence than I do in my own team, I'm expecting a rebuilding year with everyone being mentored. :p
