2017-2018 MVP Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
James Harden just won it. We can wrap this up.

60 point triple double.

I saw he was 5/14 from 3 and then I saw 17/18 fts.

He made 7 more fts than the Magic attempted.

Still a historic game though.

I actually think Curry is probably in the lead right now. The missed games is what is keeping this interesting.

If it weren't for injuries I think this would be a two man race between Harden and Curry.

But necause theyve each missed a good chunk of games, there s still room for others.

If Milwaukee goes a nice run after the firing, Giannis is back in.

So Harden in the lead, but I'd say Davis is 2nd now? If they get a top 3 seed, and he rolls like this the last month, he may just get it no matter what Harden and the Rockets do.

I came in here to say this. It's really down to Harden and AD but if NOP ends up with that 3 seed and AD puts up a few more monster games like a 50/20 or 40/20 something like that it's gonna be really hard to not consider him. All this without DMC on a team that many consider to not be real talented.

This brings me back to the discussion early in then season when people were putting Giannis ahead of AD in their player rankings.

LeBron
KD
AD/Kawhi
Harden

AD has the clear edge on Kawhi at the moment but I'm always flip flopping those two. As good as Giannis is AD is just a better player right now. What does AD need to improve on the most?

Harden is gonna end up winning it, Harden has been great all year and who thought the Rockets would be this good? Same record as the Dubs in mid-March. Also the fact that he has come so close to winning it the last few years, it's his time now.

Not saying he's in the discussion, because he's not, but I just checked Westbrook's stats and I was surprised at how close he is to averaging a triple-double for the second year in a row.

25.2-9.6-10.1

I've got it ranked:

Harden
AD
LeBron
Lillard
DeRozan
I agree with the top 3...after that it's a crapshoot.

It's sad because LeBron absolutely could have won if he wasn't sabotaging games for a month plus. Oh well.

Oh Jesus, I didn't know that Harden was over 31 PPG. Thought he was right around 28.

Wrap this shit up.

Eh we all would have loved to see LeBron win another MVP but frankly the sight of him hoisting the FMVP while Harden walks away in defeat a la Curry would be beautiful (not that I give that a strong shot of happening.)

I'm not sure why it is, but I still don't think the Rockets are much better than 50/50 in a series against the Cavs (assuming everyone is full strength).

Both of those guards historically aren't as good come playoff time. Chris Paul is good, but he's not Kyrie Irving or Steph Curry when it comes to a sidekick. Capela is really tough, but he's a limited big man.

If the Rockets and Cavs play in the finals, I think LeBron is good enough to trump the whole series provided the rest of the team just plays their standard game.

I'm not as big a believer in the Rockets as others around here, but the fact is that the Cavs beating them in a 7-game series would be as historically improbable as us coming back from 3-1 against the 73-win Warriors in '16, perhaps even more so.

No team with a defense as poorly-ranked as the Cavs (28th) has even made the Finals, we sport a -0.07 SRS vs. their +8.81, and will struggle to win 50 games while they're on pace for a scorching 65+.

If the Cavs play and beat the Rockets in the Finals then you can replace all references and allusions to Jesus with LeBron.
