2017-2018 off-season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There are a LOT of FA lead guards on the market this year. I think you are right, Beverley is cheap and useful, but there is a chance that this is an area where there is a glut this year. That could make Beverley a cheap target for some teams or he could end up without a chair if Blake leaves and Clips go full rebuild. But it's not just the handful of contenders - teams like New Orleans would like to add someone like Beverley too. Could see Spurs interested.

Also if the clippers go full rebuild, they have 3 guys in Beverley, Lou Williams, and Crawford they would want to trade. They are in a very similar bracket in terms of role a team would be trading them for, 6 man/backup point guard. Crawford might be the hardest to move but it's fairly wishful thinking they could move them all by the deadline.

They can try to maximize the value of each of them and hold on to them by the deadline but it will most likely depreciate the overall haul they get. They will most likely get the most value out of Beverley, then maybe Lou Williams, but will be left with Crawford for another season and aging.

If they move Beverley now, they can move Lou Williams mid season, then hope someone will get desperate at the deadline and want Crawford at 14+ million for 1.5 years @ 37 years old.

If Griffin left, everything of value might be dealt, but only for young cheap players, picks and expiring contracts.

Frye with his non guaranteed deal beginning after next year could get moved with a future first possibly for someone like Lou Will or Beverley, but not Shump or TT

Which is why I said you'd need a third team that wanted TT.

I actually think the clippers would think about moving Lou Williams or Beverley for either Frye or Shump plus Cedi. Both Shump and Frye are flippable at the deadline and it allows the clippers to showcase them all as trade bait. It will be hard for them to pump up the minutes of Lou Williams, Beverley, and Crawford since they are all guards. If they get rid of one it's easier to inflate their minutes and shots to up their value.

If they move one now too, they can take some shots at younger free agents to develop.

As vital as everybody thinks another "superstar" is to this team, a gritty, defensive-minded PG a la Beverley or Delly is a must. Fuck Carmelo, fuck Paul George, one of these guys needs to be made a priority ASAP.

If only we had a GM to actually get something done...

I agree 100%. I'd much rather retool with some defensive minded players than swap Love for George.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested in the possibility of LBJ and George defending together, but we might be better off just putting defensive players around our big 3.

I love Delly but he was unplayable against Warriors last year because he couldn't hit a shot. As much as we need defensive guys, we also need guys who can hit shots at a good rate. Otherwise, Warriors would sag off that player and play help-defense. They are completely ruthless when it comes to that.

Pat Bev would help us because is a good player but he is one of a kind really. Majority of the so called defensive minded players are usually average offensively and not consistent with the shooting. Bev would be great. But we would still need more good wing player.

Indeed, it would be great if Cavs could land DJ & Beverly for TT & shump
Oh I would love that move...and it's one I have been thinking about ...the Clippers aren't keeping that team intact now that CP3 is gone.

All else being equal, I'd rather have a legit rim protector than a better wing defender because a real rim protector can turn avg perimeter defenders into above average defenders by enabling them to extend the defense and play up more on their man. It's like how a single real pass rusher in football makes the entire four members of the secondary better. A legit rim protector would also complement Kevin Love better.

Signing Bogut again would give us an ideal backup rim protector and at the minimum reduce Tristan's minutes.

That being said, the Celtics are now undoubtedly the main competition in the east so until the Celtics trade Horford and first-round pics for Anthony Davis, I'm less eager to give up on Tristan who matches up well against Horford.

The Clippers won't be moving off of Beverly unless they get a king's ransom. He is highly in demand across the league.
