He's not wrong. The Schott is a pretty sterile environment.

There is literally zero reason for both it and Nationwide Arena to be within less than five miles of each other. Would have been better served giving St. John Arena some TLC. Now there's a place with some charm and character.

I haven't been there since the days of Sully, so I don't know, but I recall it rocking pretty good and being an absolute blast. As far as being sterile, maybe so, I guess I never really thought of it that deeply.

I don’t hate the Schott- it’s just not a good college basketball environment. I saw a NIT game in St John’s years ago - no comparison. I’ve been to some cool b-ball arenas, the Schott feels more like a NBA arena.

They should have torn down St Johns, played 2 seasons at Nationwide and built a new 14-16k arena in the place of St Johns. They want to tear down St Johns when they build the Covelli center but it will take away a place for the Skull session.

You're spot on and that's why it isn't an ideal college basketball arena; it was never intended to be one. The Schott beat Nationwide Arena by two years to become the first large scale multi-purpose arena in Columbus. OSU was eager to cash in on other events beside general athletics and this what we get. An arena that pales in comparison to traditional collegiate sports venues due to the sheer size of it (one of the largest in NCAA and yet hard to fill due to capacity) and i'd argue that it pales in comparison as a concert venue to Nationwide specific to sound quality.

Chris Holtmann even mentioned that he would like to have a few exhibition / OOC games held at St. Johns because it's a better venue for watching basketball. Unfortunately, in OSU's eyes better doesn't mean most profitable.

My Kaleb Wesson man crush is growing. He hasn't missed a shot in his last two games and he's been knocking down pressure free throws with confidence. For anyone that hasn't tuned in (even if you're not a buckeye fan), his game is worth watching because he has this throwback appeal in his back to the basket game but his finesse and footwork is remarkable to watch, which is most impressive considering he's a true freshman.

He always looks in control and his movements deliberate whether he's right under the hoop or he is initiating contact on the block. He plays with Sully's physicality and motor coupled with Terence Dials patience when he has the ball down low. He's certainly a better passer than those guys were their freshman year as well. I've also noticed that his baby fat has continued to fall off throughout the year which tells me we have a young guy who takes his game seriously. I am incredibly excited for his future as a Buckeye.

I agree with everyone about The Schott. Nice arena, but it's not for college basketball. Much more of an NBA-like atmosphere there. Which is fine for me, I actually prefer that. But you aren't getting the college basketball experience there. I was at the game again last night and it never got remotely loud in there.

Yeah, if his body continues to lean out he has a chance to be a special player. He is fun to watch. Someone definitely taught him well.

Reminds me of Thomas Bryant

Doug Lesmerises had a basketball version of his normally football only podcast after the Nebrasketball game. I finally got around to it. Some interesting tidbits:

- Said the biggest difference from last year is the assistant coaches are doing a much better job. CJ Jackson being a better fit and Diop being healthy are also obviously also big.

- Thinks that their current rankings, even in KenPom, are probably over what the talent is, and getting to the sweet 16 may be the ceiling. Also thinks that OSU's seed could be way lower than their AP ranking (i.e. a 5/6 seed despite being borderline top 10 in AP).

- Thinks the layoff between the B1G tourney and NCAA tourney will hurt the entire B1G.

Yeah, we felt his absence a bit against Illinois so be damn sure it'll be felt harder against Purdue.

Either way, my expectations have been exceeded so strongly this season. I thought we'd look like IU. Contrarily, we are talking about contending for a conference regular season title without sounding like idiots.

Ohio State beat Purdue at Purdue!! Holy shit the Bucks are tied for 1st in the Big 10 with less than a month in the season!

We beat purdue holy shit!

Stuck in a shit hotel in tallahassee no big ten network unfortunately

Awesome win. I thought they were done when Purdue went up 14.

What a fun team to root for. I thought sweet 16 before, but think they can go higher now. Purdue at Purdue is a really big deal.
