I think the issue is that we should've self-banned during Fickell's year as HC, wiping out a pointless loss in the Gator bowl. If Gene had suspected that we were going to get a ban, he could've forced the issue. I highly doubt the NCAA would've banned us from another bowl after we self-imposed one the prior year, especially with Urban Meyer as our coach.
 
I tweeted at McDermott last night. I'll take credit for his refusal.
 
What a total disaster.

Just promote Jent for a year and then hire a real coach at the end of the season like any normal fucking program would.

Not sure what changed Holtmann's mind, but this would be a very smart, practical hire.

Greggy McBuckets says no, and we end up with the better coach anyway.

Gene may have gotten very lucky.
