2017-2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn, that'd be a decent hire.

Something to pay attention to with Holtmann, if he ends up being the hire...#2 player in Ohio for 2017 is currently committed to Butler. 4 star forward Kyle Young from Massillon Jackson.

More on this....

"Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch reported minutes ago Butler Bulldogs head coach Chris Holtmann will be announced as Thad Matta's successor later today.

Holtmann's name resurfaced and picked up steam last night after Creighton's Greg McDermott confirmed he would be staying in Omaha.

More to come. "

We need him to go and start working on all those 4* recruits in Ohio for 2018.

Solid hire. Guy is only 45 and has gotten Butler into the tourney all three of his seasons at the helm. Recruiting wise, the fact he's been in the Midwest for the last three years is huge. Excited to see what he can do when he has the Ohio State brand to sell.

Oh Christ...here we go.

This dude covers Olympic sports and Butler basketball..nice combo man.

I am assuming it just means no news conference. But there are a lot of people saying it's a done deal.

That was a very tight battle for Kyle Young between OSU and Butler originally, and it has been confirmed that he has not signed a LOI/enrolled. He's free to leave.

Based on that, I'm seeing that some are fully expecting him to be in the fold with Holtmann.

What a damn hire. Good recruiter, too.

This next season will be transition period, but build your type of team starting 2018.

Future is looking good.

Still wouldn't be surprised to see a better than expected season next year.

Tate, Bates-Diop, and Williams is a nice senior combo for a first year coach...as long as Tate and Bates-Diop stay healthy that is.

I'd expect Kyle Young to land with OSU now too, so add 2 4 star recruits with him and Wesson coming in to Potter, Funderburk, and the older Wesson as the young core.

Good launching off point to get to the 2018 Ohio recruiting class, which seems to be a good one with Nance, Bazley, Cohill, Hunter, Ahrens, and Goodwin.

8 year deal is what got him I expect. Probably in the neighborhood of 25 mill or so, which means no matter how bad or good he is, he will be able to retire in style.

That said, as a Purdue fan I hate this move as it is a great move for you guys.

Congrats.

I'm guessing, since the 3.1 figure is less than what Matta was making I believe, that he was told he'd be getting a lot for assistants and recruiting as well.

Guarantees and a large resource pool for assistants and recruiting is a good combo for a 1st contract.

And this is a solid ass hire. Not flashy like some hoped for, but someone who can get the ball rolling again, especially with regards to developing players, which killed Matta towards the end.
