2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't mind it. if they value Trubisky that high.

I have been talking up Hunt for years now, would be thrilled to get him.

Barnwell did his. Would not mind this, at all (same thing said about Trubisky, however):

Browns picks:
  • 1-31: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
  • 1-12: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina
  • 2-33: Budda Baker, S, Washington
  • 2-52: Teez Tabor, CB, Florida

Both of them address our issues and needs without reaching for someone so I cannot say either of them would be bad. Question is Baker better than Johnson and is Lewis better than Tabor?

This trade idea is interesting to me.

If you go off the old school Jimmy Johnson value chart, it's a slight win value wise for Cleveland. The Browns give up 1200 (12) + 380 (52) + 78 (108) = 1658 for the 5th overall pick which is worth 1700.

However...

If you go off the Harvard Sport Analysis Chart - which I have this crazy suspicion the Browns at least use a variation of because it was invented in 2011 by Kevin Meers who is currently the Browns Director of Research and Strategy - then it's a massive net loss for the Browns.

Browns give up 283.6 (12) + 144.2 (52) + 89.5 (108) for 357.9 (5). A net loss of 159.4 points.

To put it another way...

Under the Jimmy Johnson chart, it should cost the equivalent of the 40th overall pick to move up from 12 to 5.

Under the Harvard chart, the same deal (12 to 5) should cost the equivalent of the 131st overall pick.
I feel like this has been addressed. The browns are going to rely heavily on the harvard chart, its basically saying the more picks the more chances of success. Which is the exact reason you will very rarely see the browns spend a lot to trade up. They realize a middle 1st, 2nd, and 3rd has a heck of a lot more value than a slighly higher first

Josh Jones..ugh. Combine Warrior, hard pass. Also, Jourdan Lewis going 33? No way in hell. He was barely a 2nd rounder BEFORE his legal problems.

The other 3 are solid, as long as Mahomes was gone by 12.

Big Feels reiterated this in his press conference just now. Paraphrasing, he basically said that they are not too keen on turning two picks into one. Didn't rule it out, and implied that their stash of picks means that doing so wouldn't effect their draft too much, but it would have to be a pretty important player to make that jump. And I can't imagine that any of these quarterbacks qualify.

Ya. I'm not a fan of who they leave on the board for Lewis & Jones. That said, Lewis is still working-out for teams & performed at Michigan's pro-day. It feels like the NFL teams found enough mitigating circumstances to not treat him like a plague. I guess we won't know what the effect is until the draft, really.

If I'm the Browns and I'm making a trade to #5, it's to draft Hooker or Adams. I just don't think Trubisky is going to be that good and certainly not worth giving up extra picks for.

However, adding Garrett and Hooker/Adams to the D would have a significant impact on this team as a whole. I don't think the Browns do either trade, but that one would actually make some sense.

The dream is to somehow have one of those guys fall to us, and the way to make this happen is to see 2 quarterbacks go off the board before 12. That means either Chicago or SF reach for Trubisky, and the Jets at #6 taking either Mahomes or Watson. OR if the Cardinals really like Mahomes as a stashed QB, the Browns can make noise about maybe taking him at 12, forcing them to jump us.

It'd go something like:

1.) CLE - Garrett
2.) SF - Thomas
3.) CHI - Trubisky
4.) JAX - Fournette
5.) TEN - Adams
6.) NYJ - Watson
7.) XSD - Lattimore
8.) CAR - Allen
9.) CIN - Foster
10.) BUF - M. Williams
11.) NO - Barnett
12.) Malik Hooker, baby!

I could see a number of the teams in the top 11 taking Howard as well.

Yep. But with Foster possibly dropping due to his drug test, it reduces the chances of one of those safeties falling to 12. Howard is a good candidate to make that happen but he's kind of my preferred target at 12.

I don't think this one has been posted. 7-rounder FOX SPORTS. Even with taking Trubisky at 12 (at least we didn't trade up :conf (11): ), this draft started off pretty damn strong:

1. Browns: Myles Garrett - DE - Texas A&M
It’s not going to be a quarterback. It’s not going to be Leonard Fournette. It’s not going to be Solomon Thomas. It’s going to be the best player in this draft, Garrett, and that’s the cut-and-dry of it.

12. Browns (from Eagles): Mitch Trubisky - QB - North Carolina
Hue Jackson can have it all — he wants a quarterback and he lands the hometown kid with the Browns’ second first-round pick. Things are looking up for the Browns.

33. Browns: Obi Melifonwu, S, UConn

52. Browns: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington

65. Browns: Raekwon McMillian, LB, Ohio State

108. Browns: Carroll Phillips, DE, Illinois

145. Browns: Nate Hairston, CB, Temple

175. Browns: James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh

181. Browns: Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU

185. Browns: Ben Gedeon, LB, Michigan

188. Browns: Isaiah Ford, WR, Virginia Tech

Not a fan of the two cornerbacks and where they are selected, I think Jones is a risky pick, but everything else is an A draft for the Browns.

Which CBs would you like instead? We have to come out of this draft with at a couple CBs

They had us passing on Adoree Jackson and Moreau to take Jones. Later they had us taking the Temple corner over the kid from Houston. Nate Hairston is a project.

Absolutely against any trade-up from 12. It would cost a a 2018 first, or multiple 2's. And those picks are just too valuable.

We need so many holes filled that an arguable BPA at a position of need is going to be available at 12 anyway.
