2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They aren't going to be able to scheme for a traditional offense. The good thing for them, though, is they have a wide array of very good skill players. Will Fuller, DeAndre Hopkins, Lamar Miller, Braxton Miller, CJ Fiedorowicz, Jaelen Strong, D'Onta Foreman, et al. is a solid group of unique guys who will be open for Watson. The Texans' front seven looks scary as well.

I didn't my mention the rookie QB bc I wasn't sure if he would be starting. Until then it's Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden. I am not saying that they are going to suck this year, but it doesn't sound like they are going to do well on things like running the ball to protect a 4th quarter lead, or running on 3rd and 3, etc.

Their defense will likely keep them in a lot of games. It's a question of how many of those close games are wins or losses, injuries, and how much their division improves.

Here's to hoping the Texans suck tho!

To be fair, the Texans the past few years have been historically lucky in close games. Usually that indicates a team could be due for a hard regression. Now the Texans have a potentially nasty front 4, but if they suffer a key injury in the defense and Watt doesnt return to form, they could be a big regression team.

However, their division is garbage and they should still be close to 8 wins, unfortnuately.

Honestly if we stay with this regime, I think we can be more stable than the Cavs. I feel we are a lot more unstable as an organization when we have LeBron here since we always seem to cater to him rather than just work on a franchise from the ground up.

Right. This FO clearly thinks long-term. It's the entire basis for their draft strategy. The Cavs have been in short-term "win now" mode pretty much as long as LBJ has been with the team -- both times, which is why we haven't developed a single young player since he's been here. Closest was Delly, and he's gone.

Kessler did have a solid rookie season all things considered. If his arm could somehow get stronger he could be a great QB.

We must also consider that he was "under pressure" over 40% of the time because he held the ball forever.

We also must consider that his completion percentage is so good under pressure because he would only throw it to wide open targets in the short/intermediate range. He knew he didn't have the arm to hit the open man downfield under duress, so he just took an inordinate amount of sacks and played super conservative.

I'm down with conservative play, but there's such thing as not making throws that are there because you either 1) don't have confidence in yourself to make said throw or 2) just physically cannot make that throw.

I think he's a combination of both.

This is the 2nd team to give up on him already in his young career...must be an issue between the ears.

But the talent is undeniable. Wouldn't hate kicking the tires on DGB with Al Saunders in our corner.

Question is are we willing to bring him in knowing that there is a red flag with the kid? I would say we need to bring him in for a workout of course, but this team doesn't need the distractions like we always seemed to have in the past. We got rid of certain guys for a reason and part of me doesn't want to bring in head cases again if we can help it.

If anything, this is the time to do it. We have nothing to lose by simply bringing him for a workout and meeting with Saunders. Our WR corp needs all the help it can get right now.

Honestly, why not? I know he's a huge work ethic/character question but he gives Hue/Saunders a massive upside guy to work with while half our corps is hurt. If he turns out to be the dud he seems to be, cut him loose.

At one point does Dorial Green Beckham shake off his status as an "upside guy?"

He's been repeatedly canned by WR needy teams who grew tired of his lack of work ethic and inability to be more than a 1-10 play guy.

And I dont think anyone was more taken with this guy than I was a few years ago during draft season.

Dude just doesn't want it.

Yeah, no more red flag character guys at WR, please.

I'm guessing one of those high picks in 2018 is going to be addressing one of the weakest spots on this roster at this point: WR.

I mean, holy cow has this kid messed-up. I remember before he screwed-up in college I thought he'd be a HOFer. Between him and LaQuon Treadwell, I've been completely blown away at how large of a crap-shoot doing background work on these guys must be. It also hits home at how talented Josh Gordon really is....
