2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This creates a spot on the roster and Anderson going to the 60 day DL will create another. Kipnis will start the season on the 15 day DL. I am not sure what the plan with Cooney is but I know he will start the season on the DL, just don't know which one, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the 60 since the beginning of March it was a 10-12 week recovery.

Now we will also figure within the next few days with Chisenhall's injury if it's a bruise or its worse. If Chisenhall is out awhile, then we will have to definitely keep one of the minor league invites, Robertson, Jackson, Shaffer).

So at the moment, We have 2B/3B open (likely 3B at the moment) We have the last OF spot and the utility spot as well. If Chisenhall is out for an extended time, that creates another spot open. Right now its Martinez, Gonzalez, Urshela, Diaz, Shaffer, Jackson, Robertson and Almonte competing for the three spots, maybe four depending on health of Chisenhall.

It's actually entirely too easy if Chis is out. It's Shaffer. Plays both corner OF positions, and first and third. You're really, really, really overthinking how much clearer things get with Chis if he slides to the DL.

That was also designed for the people who werent paying attention to spring training that may have wanted an update. We won't know until the middle of the week for an update on Chisenhall, so we will know then how things are looking. If it's just a bruise then he will be okay, if its worse then we will have to find someone.

Now at the moment we know we will have two spots to add a guy onto the 40 man roster, depending on what we do with Cooney (I think he should be moved to the 60 day DL so that covers the rest of his injury time and rehab time) but currently with two spots open, and only Gonzalez and Almonte actually on the 40 man.

Shaffer to me has a legit chance if Chisenhall cannot go, but he is still on the outside looking in since at least to start the season, Diaz wil be at 3B, Martinez is likely on the bench as the utility guy, Almonte is the OF. I don't like Martinez, but I think getting Gonzalez everyday at bats at AAA is wiser than him sitting a lot when the season starts. So that covers the two open roster spots and if Chisenhall cannot go, do we keep Shaffer, Robertson or Jackson, who none are on the 40 man roster.

Any chance we make a out of nowhere type of move??

Sincerely I don't see us making an outside move unless it is for a really good established veteran. This team is trying to win now, but bringing in a guy so late to camp with the guys all playing fairly well, would not be the best idea chemistry wise. I'd rather not take a chance with that since it could make people feel like the organization put the middle finger to them. I think also we need to save resources for the middle of the season in case of injuries since they do not want to trade anymore prospects since those guys are the lifeline of a small market team.

We did that with EE and I know it "was rumored" but for the Indians to get him what a shocker many did not see coming.

Only thing I can see maybe happening is them not liking any of their utility options, and grabbing a guy who was let go from another camp who they like more.

But they aren't going to sign a free agent or make a splash trade this late in the process, if that's what you are getting at.

Other than that, we pretty much know the group we will have moving forward, at least until the trade deadline.

Next big move, hopefully, is Santander being returned...

Everyone fully expects Zimmer and Diaz to be on the playoff roster, right?

Umm... Not this season, at least not Zimmer. I think he has one more season in the minors to be sincere. He's looked good this spring, but I expect a platoon in RF next season with Guyer. I see us trading Chisenhall in the offseason since he was the one guy who didn't get that contract extension.

Entirely possible, not an expectation for me though.

It's that Tito quote that did me in. If he plays well, they're calling up Zimmer and he's playing right.

I can't believe I really thought Frazier was leaps and bounds better. So impressed with Zimmer.

To be fair, last year, Frazier was leaps and bounds better. Zimmer was trending downwards because he couldn't figure out his swing and how to not make it loopy.

This is really a testament to Zimmer and reworking his swing mechanics. Not many guys have the ability to stop swinging the way they have all their life, that made them a first round pick, and change it up so efficiently. This is how guys take the next step in their development.

It was always right there for Zimmer to become an elite prospect. But it's impressive that he is working hard to make sure he makes himself elite. Hopefully we are just tapping into what could become a great outfielder for the Indians.

Is Willy Mo going make or accept the Clippers roster?
