2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just dropping into say that Francisco Lindor will likely wear an Indians hat when he's inducted into the Hall of Fame.

So in addition to his future years of service, there is probably that as well.

Did you catch wind we signed him or something?

With the way Ramirez is hitting, I'd much rather see him up in the leadoff spot. My ideal line-up would be:

  1. Kip
  2. Lindy
  3. Smooth
  4. EE (start hitting)
  5. JRam
  6. Santana
  7. Chiz
  8. Perez
  9. Almonte

I'm sick of hearing about Santana being in a contract year. Well then, start hitting with 1 less at bat (and earn your supposed next big contract) and get on base for the bottom/turn of the order.

Kip's #s are not that great batting beyond #4, so I see him going back to leading off (at least when all is said and done).

There's a lot you can do with the line-up, but I think having Santana at #1 is not the way to go. I'd really like to see JRam get up in 1-3, but it would mean Smooth or Kip at 5 (I might be open to Smooth at 5, but I don't think Tito rocks the boat that way).

Kipnis leading off makes tons of sense. But the same case can be made about 'Los as well. Since im more on the Kip side of things, and keeping Lindor-Brantley back to back at all costs. Josey is also solidifying why he needs to stay where he's at. The lineup would be better off with Kipnis-Lindor-Brantley setting the table. The lineup would also be even better with Edwing-Josey-'Los eating the table.

Since Kipnis is a leader, and a game changer, I want him leading games off by example.

He's also not bad vs LHP. So leading off is a everyday spot for him.

Here's an interesting tidbit from the opening line of a piece by Tom Verducci regarding 25-and-under MLB superstars and their willingness now, more than ever, to pass on contract extensions that buy out their arbitration years and hit free agency sooner instead:
The Cleveland Indians tried to extend the contract of shortstop Francisco Lindor before Opening Day, but not even dangling what one source said was a package around $100 million did the trick.

There was also this quote from Lindor's agent:
David Meter, the agent for Lindor, said about the Indians’ failed attempt at an extension, “It’s just one of those things we’ll look at on a year-by-year basis. I don’t think it’s very productive to draw a line in the sand.”

Damn. Well, least we have him for a while.

They will put his bust next to Sizemore's.

I'm not all that worried about it, his agent is just waiting since they feel he can cash in for a lot more if they wait.

And you're sure that money will come from the Indians?

It's hard to say, but with him being under team control through the 2021 season with earliest free agency in 2022. 2019 is the year he will be eligible for arbitration, so they usually try to get the extension to cover arbitration and a year/two years of free agency. So the extension will be before the 2019 season, 19-22/23 for the contract years if they make it. Now I think in 2019 we will cut some money (aka it's possible guys like Kipnis, Miller/Allen, Gomes/Perez, Kluber, Carrasco Salazar, Bauer, EE all can be trade candidates depending on how we do in 2018 and who is ready in the minors) we should be able to get the extension Lindor, Zimmer in 2019. Brantley, Tomlin, Santana, Shaw, Chisenhall, Chris Johnson will all be off the books for Cleveland. So I think we can sign him before arbitration to a long term deal.

This doesn't mean we won't sign him to an extension.

Sure, but it's not great news.

There really isn't a need to have him sign an extension right now. I understand the Indians sense of urgency to get it done, but they have until 2021 to figure it all out. Agent is just pushing for more money. I am also sure the Indians know Lindor is the face of the franchise for years to come and will give him the money he deserves.
