2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Best possible case-scenario is us routing USC by 3+ scores and Clemson dominating the overrated Tide from the opening kick.

Won't change anything obviously, but it'd make me happy.

To me getting blown out of the water by Iowa is akin to Mercer giving bama a good game.

Absolutely unacceptable.

Just shitty overall.

Did we possibly deserve it b/c we got spanked by Iowa? Yes. But as everyone is saying, Bama had such a shitty schedule. Those fucks were literally defending Mercer and saying how Bama playing them is better than our game against UNLV? They also said how Bama played ranked Fresno St? Ummm, did they know UNLV happened to BEAT Fresno St this year?

Once again, we can go back to the beginning and say it's our fault by losing to Iowa. But if they put "so much" weight towards winning a conference championship - and Bama didn't even get to theirs - we should have been in even w/o blowing out Wisconsin.

I am happy with playing USC and it will be a damn good game and I am looking forward to it. Our team is still young as hell and I can't wait to see Dobbins in his 2nd year and these young WR's maturing and Haskins taking over.

Cheers to a rollercoaster of a year and let's finish it out strong :alc:

You just know they are going to place us #5 just to fuck with us/punish us for losing to Iowa if we beat Wisconsin.

I did fucking call it though :(

Any anger I feel is not that we "got snubbed" or deserved it over anyone. Our losses were too bad to overcome and that is certainly justifiable.

It's the way committee decides to justify their week to week rankings which makes no sense. I understand the committee wants transparency, but what they are giving us is not transparency. It's a string of inconsistent logic.

The committee either needs to a) go full transparency and show us how every member votes every week or b) do what the basketball committee does and just tell us the final teams.

As long as the weekly ranking shows have good ratings, they will continue. I know I won't be watching them anymore. There's obviously no point. Nothing they say matters and, in short, they do whatever the hell they want.

Can someone settle this once and for all?

Do they count the rankings of teams WHEN you play them, or is that constantly evolving? I feel like it's asinine if a top team ends up unranked yet people still count it as a top win. I thought it was common sense. Then I was flipping through the channels and ended up on the Finebaum Show for 30 seconds (my god...) and they were all acting like you're supposed to count rankings of teams when you play them?

Final rankings is what matters.

Right. It is absurd to count the rankings when you play them. This is especially true at the beginning of the season when some teams are overrated. FSU was a prime example this season.

I don't get it, why do I see people not doing that? It's shockingly uninformed. I know in today's day and age nothing should surprise me in the media, especially when we're talking about ESPN and such, but...

What makes it even worse is the CFP committee purposefully waits until week 10 to put their first ranking out in order to prevent those arguments from happening, yet still people do it.

You'd think, in the day and age where we are trying to get shit right with regards to "worthiness" in college sports, that preseason or early polls would have been one of the first things to go...but here we are.

You called into Finebaum's show and you're wondering why people on there are uninformed? Are you aware of the audience of that show?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume this was people gassing Alabama's "resume" by talking about the rankings of teams when they beat them. FSU was 3! Miss State was 16! etc shitty takes to push their narrative.

Urban certainly isnt helping when he does it in the B1G CCG postgame speech, but I know he's just advocating for his team because the next day he corrected it.

Woah, woah, woah...I didn't call in. :chuckle: I was flipping channels and saw it, ended up on it for maybe a minute. One of the hosts, some chick, was like, "They should take the rankings of the teams when they play!" and Finebaum was like, "Well, the committee does!" or something like that.

I am fully aware of what that show is and what the audience is, haha.

Joel Klatt absolutely nuked the CFP committee live on air today....def worth a watch.

I beat the "get rid of divisions" drum really hard last year. It's the only way to get this system working. Somehow the Big 12, of all conferences, is the only one to get it right. Obviously, I like Klatt's solution. I wouldn't say you HAVE to win your conference championship game, though, to make it. But I'd say you'd have to at least make it to the conference championship game to make the playoff. No way you can be the 3rd (or worst) best team in your conference and make the playoff.
