2017 Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Of course he's not worth a 1st and a 4th in a vacuum. But it doesn't hurt the Patriots at all to ask for the moon. You never know who will get desperate.

I'd agree with this. Textbook negotiating tactic. That said, I still don't think the Browns cough up a 1st this year.

For a little bit of context, the Patriots put the franchise tag on unrestricted free agent to be Matt Cassel after the season ended in 2008.

A month later they traded him and Vrabel to Kansas City for a 2nd round pick, No. 34 overall.

At the time, Brady was only making 8M and the franchise tag for Cassel would have paid him 14.35M.

Currently, Brady is set to make 14M in 2017, then 22M in 2018 and 2019. The 2017 franchise tag is going to be around 24M, with the 2018 being even higher.

There's basically a zero percent chance the Patriots can afford to pay two quarterbacks a combined 50M dollars in 2018, it's just not feasible at all. One of them will have to go.

Now they *could* hang on to Garoppolo for 2017, pay him his 1.1M to be their backup again and do this dance all over again in next offseason, but it seems like they're ready to explore the trade market now, thinking better offers will be out there right away.

It hurts listening to Jamie Collins talk. Not sure if he just isn't well-spoken, or if this situation is just so hard for him to talk to the media about. I'm guessing both. To me, it sounded like a guy who wants the hell out.

I have been disappointed with Goff overall, but he has not been given a great supporting cast with the crappy o line, poor offensive coordinating and below average wrs.

As opposed to Kessler, who was gifted an incredible offensive line and elite offensive talent around him.

Oh, right...

If there's a clear cut player out there to steal, who is it?

I want to say this is my biggest Browns off season ever, mostly due to the #1 overall and 12 overall picks, which we cannot once so ever fuck up.

If they can build greatly through the draft, what one player can solidify the team in FA? Not to informed on what key players are entering FA, but someone is out there that can help instantly.

Big year all around for Browns. I'm a little excited I guess.

Tyrod Taylor IMO. He'd be electric in Hue's offense.

Assuming something gets worked out with Collins, even though Sashi said they aren't looking to franchise him, I'd love Kevin Minter as a nice piece to replace Davis and solidify the front 7. He's is in his prime, coming off the best season of his career, and isn't going to command huge money. The Cardinals #1 priority is to get something worked out with Chandler Jones..so I think that helps as well.

The Packers have two starting-quality centers: Corey Linsley and J.C Tretter, the latter of whom is a UFA. Basically, injuries have determined who starts.

Tretter would do a lot to stabilize our line, and shouldn't be too expensive (though he probably won't be cheap).

ETA: If it were up to me, he'd be a priority signing to fill the single biggest hole on the roster. No QB on this team is going to be able to succeed at even an average level if we don't fix the center position.

I'd take anyone who gets Cam Erving off the field at this point.
