2017 Game #8 | #6 Ohio State @ Iowa | November 4th, 2017 @ 3:30 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What happens if they win next week but lose to Michigan?
If there's a 4 way tie, OSU would win it due to divisional record (Iowa is out of division).

Since Michigan already lost to both MSU & PSU they would need those two teams to lose to someone awful like Rutgers in order for their H2H against us to matter.

There's about a 99% chance the OSU/MSU winner goes to Indy.

Edit: And Michigan still has to play Wisconsin. The chances of them winning out are highly unlikely.

Recruiting is like 90% of the battle in college football.

So w/o even digging into Urban the coach, it just doesn't matter. He's the best recruiter in the country. The end.

Ask Tennessee how they feel about pushing Phil Fulmer out the door after a few down years. THey haven't been able to recruit ever since.

Win out, win the conference, win. New Years six bowl.

Could be worse
They just lost to an unranked team by 30. It will most likely get worse. Losing the championship game and bowl game would not be fun

My biggest issue to this day with him is actually in the close loss vs MSU when Zeke seemed to barely touch the ball. I don't know how much say he has in the offensive play calling, but that still bugs me.

I am not seeing the same talent as others are this year apparently. I keep hearing about the talent, but I am not seeing it. I think our WR's blow and our pass defense is just awful. They have been shredded way too often this year.

I am actually more upset with this current group of talent (which is on Urban) than I am how they are performing (meaning I don't think they are underperforming or that I think it's a coaching issue). I guess I just never expected much this season. They've just lost too much premier talent to the NFL over the past 2 years to keep being dominant this year IMO. The only team that can seem to do that over and over and over again is Alabama. But even Alabama hasn't lost as much premier talent as we have the past 2-3 years.

I always felt this was a building year. Just not enough experience across the board. I think that changed when I saw how good Dobbins was. I really thought we would lean on the run hard when especially when Weber was healthy.

It puzzled me the direction the offense took. Parris Campbell and KJ Hill have never seem to me to be hybrids and they haven't really used them as such. Both Dobbins and McCall seem to be more of the mold of a hybrid.

The decision to lean on JT and in turn the WRs was a odd choice, so little experience with the group. They built up the pass playbook and left the run game behind. The decision won us the Penn game but lost us this game. There was no counter punch to go to when JT struggled tonight. They playbook wasn't there to open up a run game to make a come back in this game.

Ohio State with Urban has always, always, been at its best pounding the rock. 20+ carries for the RB. For some reason, they forgot Zeke existed against MSU in 2015, didn't make Samuel the primary back in 2016, and refuse to give Dobbins carries in 2017. Even going back to 2013 and 2014, the games we lost we didn't give Hyde/Zeke enough carries. It's the one common theme in every single loss in the Urban era. It's extremely frustrating we don't embrace the power spread identity. We won a national championship with it and ever since we've tried to be something that we aren't.

I don't know about that; Hurts isn't half the QB J.T is, I would wager our backs are better than theirs, but Sabin just keeps winning chips regardless of whom is slinging it back there or running.

Also, Penn is not as talented as we were.........

Exactly, I feel like Urban and the staff out think themselves with the game plans. They come to the conclusion that they won't be able to run on a team so they decide to go heavy on the pass game. All I want is a balance attack.

It doesn't help that they have left alot of the previous playbook out. The various screens they use to run are gone. Two RB sets aren't being use, even though both Weber and Dobbins are able to run routes. I even feel the types of run plays being used are far less. The creativeness of the offense is way down from the Herman days.

They need to go back to the power run. We are almost exclusively a spread team at this point. JT isnt built to read 4-5 routes and to be lean on to beat teams with his arm. JT should be a QB that makes quick simple reads to get the ball into playmakers hands.

You're agreeing with me then? Urban is the best recruiter?????

You're right. He isn't Nick Saban. There's only one of those.

There just seems to be a lot of inconsistency specific to position group success each year. The constant upheaval of our coaching staff since Herman left is starting to hurt us on the field.

Despite our recruiting success, our LB play has been pretty piss-poor this year, which reared its ugly head this weekend. Billy Davis seemed like a good hire but apparently success in the NFL isn't a good indicator for success in college.

It seems the only sure thing is that we know Larry Johnson will get the best out of his bunch each year. We recruit well on the line but i've seen consistent growth of players under Johnson's tutelage.

Urb's play calling can be baffling at times and his propensity to be infatuated with leadership (JT) vs. just going to your best player has bitten us in the ass more than once. Perhaps he needs to give his coordinators a bit more leeway to pick plays - not sure what the answer is.

I will say this, for someone who climbed the coaching ranks focusing on special teams, there is no excuse for how bad we've looked on special teams this year.

Eh, this happens everywhere, and is really no different than what Alabama has gone through... they lose coordinators all the time.

The rest I agree with for the most part. Although, even despite the bad game on Saturday, I'm still not seeing how we'd be any better with Haskins/Burrow over JT this year. The two losses to Oklahoma and Iowa were 100% on the defense, IMO. The linebackers and secondary especially were complete fucking trash in both games. And the Penn State game, which very easily could've been a loss, was more special teams and some really questionable officiating.

I'm as stunned and disappointed as everyone else about what happened on Saturday, but this season can still be salvaged... maybe not to the expectation level of some, but there's still a lot to play for. Beat MSU to win the B1G East, beat Michigan, win the B1G Title against Wisconsin, and win a NY6 bowl game.

I'd be happy if we did all that, but my confidence in their ability to do so is quite shaken. You don't just lose to Iowa by 30 points and get to go, "Well, there, get em' next weekend!" That was a crushing defeat to a middling Big Ten team, I don't really give a fuck if they are tough to play on the road. Even just losing a close game may have been deemed understandable, but getting absolutely crushed?

Everybody left on the schedule knows they can beat Ohio State. Let's see how the team responds. But right now, winning the B1G would be great, but I'd be kind of surprised despite us having heaps more talent than anyone else standing in our way. Which is kind of sad.

I remember hearing and saying after the Clemson loss 31-0 that this would never happen again at Ohio State, and that it isn't acceptable. While we didn't get shut out, that game was equally as embarrassing IMO. Little did I know it'd happen again 8 months later.
