2017 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tyler Krieger, playing for Israel in the WBC, is currrently playing on MLB Network, if you are interested. Currently 2-2 with 2 singles and 2 RBI...one hit lefty, the other righty...looks very comfortable from both sides of the plate.

He looks like a solid hitter, but where does he end up defensively you think? I know that have him at 2B now usually

Pure 2B...not sure he'll be able to play anywhere else with the damage his shoulder surgery seemed to do to his arm strength (since I'm pretty sure he was a SS at Clemson).

Him and Mathias were same draft class...Mathias is who I can see being the next utility guy who can play multiple spots coming up the pipeline, while Krieger stays at 2B.

But I really like his movements at the plate, from both sides. We have quite a few sexy ass switch-hitters coming through the pipeline, which is awesome...even more so if Santander is returned to us...

had a good game in game 2 as well. I'm rooting for a USA v. Israel final. The Mensch on the Bench is bringing the magic.

The question is if he becomes MLB ready while we have Kipnis what do you think we should do? I see him as the possible replacement for Kipnis down the line

Way, way too early to start thinking about that. Kid has only played 1 year professionally, and Kip is locked up for 3 more seasons until the end of the decade.

I'll start looking into that in 2 years, and at that point we could have a 3B who is ready who can push Jose back to his natural position for all we know...

True Nolan Jones could be the 3B of the future supposedly, but it's too soon for that. I actually see us keeping Ramirez at 3B since probability of our farm system says we have a lot of guys who can play 2B not as many at 3B, but that is the current outlook for the lower minors, we have no clue how guys will pan out at the moment

Yandy Diaz may say otherwise...think he is going to hit a lot like Ramirez at the MLB level...and Diaz's bat will have to play, and with all the OFs coming up the pipe, I think in a few seasons he settles in at 3B for us and moves Ramirez to 2B.

Nolan Jones is like 5 seasons away...

You never know when a player is ready and Ramirez is a contract extension candidate I think as well especially since Zobrist has shown it is important to have a guy who can be a super utility guy

I actually project Diaz in LF replacing Brantley rather than playing 3B, he's supposed to be good in the infield but his numbers have never supported that. I mean I have seen worse, but I think we would be better off with him at LF/RF or 1st rather than 3B, but that is if he doesn't improve his numbers defensively and at AAA he won't play a whole lot of 3B because of Urshela.

Yandy Diaz will not be an OF...he will be a UTIL player his first few seasons in the majors and will play some OF, but when he settles in to a spot, it will be 3B, especially with Zimmer and Allen coming up soon, and some of the OFs in the lower levels who I think will play at the MLB level in a few years.

Urshela will be off the roster in a season or 2 IMO, he is not a factor at all.

I'm talking 3 or 4 years down the line here, when we potentially look to move Kip in his last year of his deal if we feel we won't be able to keep him and are getting ready to go through a mini-rebuild.

And Diaz is fine in the IF...watch him, don't look at the numbers...

Well he won't play 3B a whole lot this season to be honest and I feel an OF of Diaz, Allen, Zimmer with Naquin being our 4th OF on paper would look really good.

Though we at least both agree on the fact Diaz will be on the team, I feel he should be able to hit for average, good OBP and should play everyday. The position we don't have for next season is an everyday fielding 1st base.

Now if Brantley cannot come back, he will be released and it's possible to we trade Chisenhall before the start of next season. That could create two open OF spots. One for Diaz and one for Zimmer. That is just my projections though. I want Diaz in the lineup everyday rather than a bench player since I feel is bat is worth way more than his glove.

I have our OF of the future pegged right now as Naquin in LF, Allen in CF, Zimmer in RF...

We do have a 1B lined up for next season IMO, but that hinges on this season.

But again, talking 3 or 4 years from now...not soon...
