2017 Series #31 -|- Indians @ White Sox

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Brantley resting today, Ramirez sliding up to #3 in the lineup with Edwin behind him

Wish they'd just put Jose up in the 2-hole for good considering he's our best hitter.

I guess we've been hitting pretty well recently though, so tough to really complain.

I just know it's basic strategy to put your best hitter in the 2 hole.

Personally I always like my best hitter in the 3 hole, but I like my best OBP guys in the 1-2 holes in a sense. On a day like this, I don't think it matters much, but I think Francona wants someone to protect EE and there hasn't been any better than Ramirez this season. Either way honestly makes sense to me, but I am guessing he wants certain guys like Lindor to get as many at bats as possible.

He literally just word vomits his opinion, which are things he reads on Twitter or ESPN, and then when he has a take that's "smart", it's literally a standard baseball take.

My brain...

I was just laughing that he put "personally", before talking about the most common setup for the top of a batting order in baseball.

Umm... I grew up watching and playing baseball so why do I need to read about takes? I go off of what I know and if I am not sure about something I do research it and make my own decision at the end of the day.

I have seen a million different takes on the lineup and analysts about it over the years. I value small ball, OBP and contact rate over power and some other factors. When I am playing like the MLB games on the console and controlling a franchise, I always go for heavy contact regardless of the power. I was referring to what D-Wreck said about Jose Ramirez being our best hitter so he should be in the two hole. I always put my best hitter in the three hole.

I played baseball, too. I think most of us in this sub-forum did/have. You're stating either A) obnoxiously ridiculous things (Bradley Zimmer needing specifically a .275 batting average to be called up) or B) things that are just absolutely common sense with no in between and acting as if you invented the idea, or should be rewarded for having it.

Thats the thing, you are reading way, way too much into what I am writing. My point with Zimmer was he needed to show that his adjustments he made would improve his contact with the ball. He was hitting below .250 between AA and AAA with a very high strikeout rate and didnt show the other parameters to say he would do any better in the pros. He showed he did improve on that aspect of his game hence why he got called up. I just wanted to see him improve before we brought him up since he is going to be one of the faces of the franchise with his own bobblehead in due time, so I didn't want him up before he was actually ready for the pros. Many times if a player is called up too soon, it hurts their development more than helps it.

Also I just state my opinion, and I don't mean to come off as I have invented anything, I guess I haven't learn any other way to speak in a sense. I am extremely book smart, but I am still learning how to actually talk to others. If you know my past, you would get it, but since no one on here actually knows me, they wouldn't get the way I talk. So when I say things, don't take it as I am a know it all since that is not my intention. I am just not sure how to say things in a way that it doesn't come off that way. My friends all understand I do and say things without any bad intentions/trying to say I invented everything and everyone should bow down to me.

@sportscoach Your best hitter will most likely be your best OBP guy as well. It's makes the most sense by the numbers to have your best hitter in the 2 hole, that's been proven.

You can put your best hitter in the 3 holes, it's far from the worst thing you can do, but it doesn't make an optimal lineup.

The best OBP% guys actually are almost always in the 3/4 hole if you look around baseball. Now the fact they get intentionally walked effects that as well. I actually like my two hole hitter to be the best control with his bat, in the sense can do all the small ball things, the sac fly, sac bunts/just moving over the runner if need be. I have always liked the combo in the 2003 Florida Marlins team of Juan Pierre leading off and Luis Castillo batting second.
