2017 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And?

I've gone through what he has gone through...twice...should I not share what I went through when it helps the conversation about what is going on with Brantley?

The PR department is basically lying their ass off... Like we've heard the Cavs do before.

It's why we've heard about Carlos and Jose playing in LF, especially with news about us having interest in Utley previously. All subtle hints that he probably isn't going to play anymore.

But, I'll gladly eat crow.

I don't buy it for one second that the Indians PR department is lying their ass off...they have literally no reason to at this point.

Also, maybe you missed it today while enjoying the S34 tidbit, but Tito said Jose and Carlos will not be getting OF reps in camp. Jose will work primarily as a 3B, and take some reps at SS later in the month...is Tito lying? Am I supposed to take that as Brantley is fine, if we are looking into the opposite as him being a cripple for the rest of his life?

And bullshit, you won't gladly eat crow...you still haven't with Santana, and you still haven't with Jose "Never will be a useful player" Ramirez...I don't buy that either :chuckle:

While I'm concerned Brantley may never be the same player again I'm not too concerned if he's not ready per se by the start of the season because the Tribe has the luxury of not needing to rush him back.

Since you aren't someone who will insult me if I do this...at least I don't think you will...

Can I ask you why? What has been said/reported that makes it seem he like won't be the same player again?

I get the concerns about health moving forward, re-injury risk, workload...but where is the loss of talent/skill belief coming from from people?

I admit that I was wrong about Jose and he most likely used steroids and HGH to improve his game.

But.... BUT..... can he do it again??? Show me that consistency!

Nobody is lying. Truth is, I'm not sure they'll really, truly know until the rehab is done and he gives it a go. They know that, he knows that, we know that. They're surely thinking positive, as most of us are.

They won't know until he plays a few games in a row. Same as last year.

He checked all the boxes last year in his rehab, but couldn't get over the hump of a regular game-to-game workload.

Why I think this year will be different, because the amount of time he spent rehabbing/restrengthening is longer than last years by a very wide margin.

I saw where they were "counting on him" to be ready, but not that they expect him to be. Which, even if they did say that, means nothing because they have been wrong several times about him being ready at this point.

What do you expect out of fans? Brantley is basically the boogeyman at this point. I'll remain highly skeptical until I see him producing in the lineup once again, as we all should.

Maybe I'm missing something. Doesn't "counting on" mean the exact same thing as "expecting"?

You wouldn't count on somebody if you weren't expecting them.

I legitimately see no reason to think Brantey won't play every day, and be a good hitter this year. Injuries happen. This one seems far from a career ender.

Maybe. I always took that to mean you need somebody, if you're counting on them. As in, damn, we need Brantley back.

Who knows what was meant.

I don't see Brantley playing everyday out of the gate though. I see him getting more innings as the season progresses. It's also possible he starts the season on the DL, but by May he should be back to everyday. I expect his power to be down though this season

Maybe trust what you read instead of continuing to ask "will he even be the same anymore", or "will he even play anymore", or some other worst possible outcome question.

Literally nothing we have heard has suggested that, yet we still have people acting like that's what is going on here.

It's like every little update we get in here has people going worst case scenario, when nothing even close to that is being said in the updates.

They're being cautious with him and want him fully healthy when he is back so he can stay back, so they are holding him out of early Spring Training games...am I really supposed to freak out about that?

Nothing has suggested that... except his lack of meaningful at bats in how long now?

Asking a question is far from freaking out or panicking. You just get irritated every time somebody isnt looking at something with the utmost positive outlook. Just because the Indians tell us Brantley is fine, means absolutely zilch after what has gone on with him. They already brought him back once telling us he was fine. How did that work out? Do you really not understand the skepticism? Honest question.

He's not a power hitter, so this shouldn't matter. Guy generates most of his power from his swing mechanics, not his strength anyways.
