2017 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Salazar returns to the pitcher that he was at the first half of last season, this team is returning to the World Series. However, he's posted an ERA over 6 since last July, while his walk and home run totals are obscene. What makes you expect him to return to form when he's activated from the DL soon?

Im just on the belief that his talent starts showing again, they'll filter out his issues, Danny will work on them and improve his mechanics, and just get back to playing baseball the way he knows how to play. We've seen the best of Salazar, and the worst, it's not like he'll forever be this bad, I think his season will even out for the better, and if it doesn't, it's why we need at least a #3 SP, because Bauer and Tomlin are hot and cold risks too.

For me, with Salazar, the only question I have is health. Throughout his career he has been very good when healthy. If he returns from the DL with a vote of confidence from the medical staff, I would be very surprised if he didn't start pitching significantly better.

I think we can mostly agree if we can acquire another good SP then we probably should do so, but what can we give up for one?

@BimboColesHair, do you still want to acquire more bullpen help or just try to focus on getting another starting pitcher?

Right now its gotta be a SP...The bullpen will be truncated to 5 guys in the playoffs, most of which are set.

I don't think we need bullpen. Miller/Allen/Logan/Shaw/McAllister/Goody/Otero and the 5th starter that doesn't make the playoff rotation with all be options in the postseason.

Lineup is set, barring injuries.

But the rotation...

I don't trust Salazar. I trust Bauer more (scary) but don't really trust him a ton either. I love Tomlin, but I'm not sure we can bank on another hot streak.

That leaves Kluber and Carrasco. If the Tribe can add a 3rd, trusted starter, you can go with the guy pitching the best in September of Bauer/Salazar/Tomlin.

Wonder if the Jays fall out of contention any more than they already have if they start listening to offers on Marco Estrada or J.A. Happ.

That front office knows a lot about our farm, and they're getting old and need to kick start a rebuild soon.

It's beginning to look like Toronto will more than likely be sellers at the deadline. What do you guys think it would require to nab Happ? He's under contract to through next season and would fit perfectly at the third spot in the rotation with Salazar being a huge uncertainty.

I not sure about Happ, he was hurt to start the season and is on year two of a 3 year/38 mil dollar contract. Shapiro and staff did help draft a fair amount of the guys here so I bet there is a player they would like to have in their system. The question is who do we have to give up for Happ, and is the owner willing to increase the budget this season by 6-10 mil to add another starter?

Personally I would like to get Gray and (if healthy) Doolittle as well from the A's but that would almost cost us Mejia for Gray since i doubt they would trade him unless a top catching prospect was in the deal.

Either way I hope we don't make a trade to make a trade, but don't at least try to upgrade who we have. Tomlin to me is fine as a starter and fine as a reliever. We need to win it this season and in 18 before we lose the bullpen arms we have.

I'm not sure if Tampa would even entertain the idea considering how they're currently in contention, but what are your guys' thoughts on unloading the Tribe's top prospects (Mejia, McKenzie, etc.) for Chris Archer? Too bad we traded him for Mark fucking Derosa back in the day after the Tribe front office drafted him.

First thought? No.

Second thought? Hell no.

We could potentially use another starter, that I can agree with, but we don't need one that much, or one that is worth that much to get.

What prospects are we willing to deal?

Bradley? Aiken? Allen?

Meija is now a untouchable considering our current catcher situation. He could be a cornerstone player. Thanks Dickhead Lucroy, that'll be the best stealing attempt he'd ever throw out.

But I would imagine those 3 names above could net us a very good #3 arm going forward with this current window.

I really do hope we get a reliable SP.

Tampa already made moves to improve. They are not trading away players, they are looking to add more. Media and team are confident they can contend for a wild card.

Keep in mind two things:

1) The front office likes guys with more than one year of control.
2) Santana is a free agent after this season while Brantley and Chisenhall are after 2018.
.
The Indians will not give up their very best prospects for a rental. I also think they'll hesitate to deal an outfielder like Allen. Ultimately, I'm guessing a mid-tier prospect or two goes for a rental SP.

If we want to get creative, how about swapping Salazar for another young pitcher like Jacob Degrom, Sonny Gray, or Gerrit Cole?

Still think look at the Blue Jays, as far as obvious trading partners go. Know our farm better than most, as they played a large role in bringing most of it in themselves.

Still think Marco Estrada or JA Happ would both be good gets for a starter that won't cost us an arm and a leg to get.

I shall give my honest opinion, guys like Zimmer, Mejia, Bradley, McKenzie, Allen, and Yandy are all guys in my top 30 I would not trade.

Aiken will likely drop as a prospect after this season and hasn't looked good at all. Like if I was told I would have to trade three of my top 10, via the MLB.com list, for a Pitcher like Gray to get him, it would be Aiken, Benson and Chang. We have depth up the middle in the system between 2B/SS, in the OF and in starting pitching. Those are the three areas I would trade from.

Guys like Gray make sense for us to trade for since he has years of control which likely means a deal for him would be closer to Aiken, Morimando, Chang and Ice. Though part of me says they won't trade Gray unless they get a close to MLB ready catcher back since they really need one.

Asked this awhile back, but what about dealing Naquin with the way Zimmer is playing? Or with Brantley and Chisenhall going into FA after 2018, do you keep Naquin?
