Losing Ariza was huge, but guys, M'Bah a Moute didn't do a single thing and barely played against Golden State in the WCF. He was a nothingburger when it mattered, and they were winning anyway.

He barely played because he had a separated shoulder and was having a rough time raising his arm above shoulder level. A healthy Moute is a legitimate wing and post defender and an improving three point shooter. Perfect for that Rockets team and D'Antoni's system.

You don't think reduced Boogie is better than Anthony Tolliver? I do. I almost don't care how bad Boogie is damaged.

I think people will be surprised at how the Celtics aren't going to be even that much better. They will be better because Kyrie is more clutch and will hit the last second shots that Rozier missed last year, but they will not be beating Golden state better IMO.

IF Tatum plays SG and takes a big jump and Hayward plays the best defense of his life, maybe the Celtics will be real contenders. I still think the Raptors with Kawhi > than Boston with Kyrie and Hayward back.

I think you're on to something. Boston needs better Bigs. Horford is another year older and always seems to get neutralized in the playoffs. They would really benefit from a stretch Big that can get off his own shot.

Heat just signed our Marcus Lee from the Summer League. I think they got a good one.

That's probably the perfect team for him. Gritty switching defense. He will be tasked as a garbage man.

WE just have too many non-stretch bigs as is. I think he is worth a flyer.

This will be the 25th season of Dirk's professional career, and the 24th season of Manu's professional career. What other players have played a quarter century of pro basketball, or come close? If you include college ball, Parish also had 25 seasons and Willis technically did too (his last pro season was kind of a farce). Vince Carter is entering his 24th season as well, by that standard.

Vince is going to tie Parish's record this year. That is pretty cool.

Kevin Garnett also had 21 NBA years. He could have gotten another token year if he had wanted to.

Vince has to be almost done. Kobe was the first guard to do 20 years.

So few guys play into their 40's. 20 years in the NBA has to be near max years. I mean some Euro guys who are pros at 14 have an edge here of course.

How are we supposed to have a list of players with long professional basketball careers if we don't include Oscar Schmidt?

Sure, not a household name in the NBA, but played pro basketball for 29 years. Apparently an idol of Kobe's as he grew up in Italy. He was also drafted by the Nets in 1984 but preferred to play Olympic Basketball for Brazil (NBA players weren't allowed to play for Olympic teams until 1992). Makes me think of Arvydas Sabonis not playing NBA ball for ten years after being drafted. The difference with Oscar is that he never played in the NBA...

(I guess I should make this relevant to the NBA too... so I'll add these tidbits)
  • Kevin Willis also missed a full season of basketball early on in his career: otherwise would have had 22 years of NBA basketball.
  • There are a lot of players who managed to get to 15 years and fall off immediately, but there are some who try to make it to the 20th year and fall short (ex. Karl Malone lost his chance to injury; Jordan only played 15 years, but if he didn't retire at all, would've been his 19th year; Kobe broke down with injuries during his last couple of years; etc).
  • But this is the new generation of basketball players, starting their careers while still teenagers. Garnett and Bryant are only the first wave of these players finally reaching the end of their careers. I'm certain there will be more coming within the next couple of years.
  • The road to breaking the NBA seasons played record is going to come soon. It's fun to guess who will do it.

No it isn't but I guess it is subjective

More than you need for the weekend.

Also it is decriminalized in NY, so you just get a ticket, unless you have over 25 grams. So you don't even have to go to court for a small amount. He is lucky he didn't have over 2 ounces.

New York determines intent by the amount of marijuana you carry. Anything over 25 g is automatically at least a misdemeanor, and can carry a jail sentence. This is also true for smoking marijuana in public (any amount). The basic divisions of punishment by weight are as follows:

  • 25 grams to 2 ounces: misdemeanor involving up to three months in prison and a $500 fine,
  • 2 - 8 ounces: misdemeanor involving up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine,
  • 8 ounces - 1 pound: felony involving up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine,
  • 1 - 10 pounds: felony involving up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine, and
  • Over 10 pounds: felony involving up to 15 in prison and a $5,000 fine.

I don't care why he barely played, just that, when they were actually winning the series, he wasn't a factor. So I don't know how losing him is a big deal? It wasn't last year.

It's not just losing him, it's losing him AND Ariza and replacing them with Melo's corpse. Both guys are great fits in the system D'Antoni runs, especially with CP3, Harden, and Capela around them.

I bet almost every single team in the league would rather have MBAM over Melo next season.

Ahh, i guess my perception is skewed because of my buddy in CA who pulls down between 18-25 pounds every few months
